Established in 1985, and located on Raglan Street, just off Princess Square in the heart of Harrogate, The Tannin Level is one of Harrogate's best loved and most renowned restaurants. Known for its wines (its name is a wine term after all!) as well as its food, it has garnered an enviable reputation amongst the towns sophisticated 'foodies'. The Tannin Level has a certain style and an unmistakable elegance, and its many original features combine to create the unique Tannin Level ambience.
The food is modern British with a Tannin Level twist, utilising only the very best seasonal ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible. As you might expect, all our food is freshly prepared by our chefs, which also means that if you have any special requirements, we can usually oblige.     Lovely cellar restaurant close to Harrogate Town Centre. Pleasantly decorated & clean. Efficient service. Food was excellent, good menu choices and wine list and we enjoyed our evening.

    Our “go to” restaurant in Harrogate for celebration dinners. It was a momentous and significant birthday for my partner (age never to be revealed) and after a hectic family open house in the afternoon it was great to relax in comfortable surroundings and peruse the sensibly constructed menu, not too long but not short, and covering most tastes. We both homed in on the scallops with chorizo and a subtle sauce a real winner and left us feeling our main course choices would be difficult to compete taste wise with our starters. We chose a chicken dish and lamb - both a revelation - full of flavour and beautifully presented. My partners chicken was a generous cut of breast with assorted extras and my pink cooked lamb was exceptional - conversation disappeared as we fully concentrated on enjoying each mouthful. I can honestly say I can’t remember a more tender and flavoursome dish of lamb. After initially declining anything else, we succumbed to sharing a cheesecake a very suitable conclusion to an outstanding meal. A great wine list with a good variety of favourites for all tastes. We went Italian and enjoyed a perfect accompaniment to our food. Staff, wonderful. Our waitress was very attentive without being a nuisance, ready to make our meal a success, and with nothing too much trouble and with a good sense of humour. We were so surprised to learn she was only 17 years old as she was so accomplished and skillfull beyond her years! Being a Yorkshireman it’s never great to receive a bill, but for once I couldn’t argue as our enjoyment made it worth every penny. Thanks for making yet another celebration meal such a wonderful experience. We’ll be back!

    On our Anniversary break from Scotland decided on a visit to The Tannin Level. From our meet & greet at the front door to our exit myself & my wife have no complaints whatsoever. Quality of food was outstanding and mixed with a fantastic service and value for money made this an enjoyable experience. What more can I say 10/10 all round, hope to return. John & Linda Evans

    Nice ambience, imaginative food choices however we did find one of the dishes very very salty and we were unable to finish. Our comments were noted and passed to the chef. We would definitely recommend a visit to the Tannin Level as the rest of the dishes were very enjoyable and the staff were a credit to the management.

    Without a doubt the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had, so much flavour and all perfectly cooked. Nice pleasant service too, very attentive and friendly. We’ll definitely be back,
