About

Join Chef Stuart Myers and his wife Jo, as they warmly welcome you into their intimate and unique restaurant, to enjoy dishes from their creative and inventive small plates menu. Running such a small kitchen allows Stuart to change menus regularly, reflecting the changing seasons and availability of produce. Working with local producers he is able to add varied and exciting specials each week, to a menu that changes on a monthly basis. Particularly popular is the #RootsToShoots Vegetarian menu.

Opening at 5.30pm, The Swine That Dines, is an ideal choice for a pre theatre meal. Especially given it’s close proximity to The Grand Theatre, City Varieties and the First Direct Arena.

Next Vegetarian #RootsToShoots - 2nd/3rd/4th March and 30th/31st March & 1st April 2017

Always a brilliant menu and makes for a wonderful mid week treat! Be prepared to add a couple of optional courses and remember to take your own wine, but you will not leave disappointed!

When I arrived the restaurant did not have my reservation as OpenTable had not passed it on. I appreciate that you are no longer working with this restaurant but to not pass on the bookings you had taken is very negligent. As it happened they could fit us in the same evening, though over an hour later and on a table which wasn't ideal. Your failure to pass on this booking would have resulted in a ruined birthday meal for my partner. The restaurant saved the day but I would not recommend your booking service to anyone.

Had the evening tasting menu on the vegetarian weekend, which was a surprise to my carnivore husband. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food, it was an interesting and tasty menu. The service was friendly and helpful.

This is a restaurant where the food should be savoured, meaning a visit should be an end in itself, not the 'eating part' of a night out - it's a foodie heaven. The tasting menu gives little away with regard to the dishes being served; it just lists the main items with no pretentious descriptions, which is great! Each new dish is a surprise even though one knows what the food items are. For example, there's no indication in "Fennel, Rice, Pea, Mint" that it's presented as arancini. Each dish was prepared to perfection and the quality of the produce shone through; I found myself eating things I had previously thought I didn't like - beets and radish, for example - but not even the beauty of the arancini could cut through my loathing of rice. My loss, I suspect :-)

The senior staff were knowledgeable and friendly but we did feel a little rushed on occasion when the more junior waiting staff tried to remove plates before we'd finished with them, however this only happened twice in nine courses.

I really enjoyed the fact that the only real decision I had to make about my meal was which of two desserts to have; the tasting menu stands on its own, although there are a couple of specials available, one of which we added on since the menu is for two and we were three. Absolutely outstanding porchetta from locally raised pigs, cooked to a melting, buttery perfection.

I shall certainly be back.

Absolutely gorgeous food and very friendly service. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to have an entire vegetarian tasting menu, and my boyfriend enjoyed it too, even though he's usually a carnivore through and through. The Radish, beetroot, rhubarb and labneh dish was outstanding. Will be back!

Always a pleasure! The Roots to Shoots vegetarian menu is a must for our calendar every month. The best veggie food in Leeds - delicious, unusual and beautifully presented and the venue is cosy and informal. You can bring your own booze too which helps keep the prices down. I could not recommend it more.

We went here as a group for my husbands birthday. What it lacks in fancy surroundings it makes up for with fabulous food and service. The food was exceptional and the waiting staff immensely helpful. We ordered 2 small plate taster menu and they were a mixture of vegetarian and meat courses. I am vegetarian so my husband and I shared the courses, it was fantastic and we had more than enough food. I wouldn't hesitate to go here again. My only suggestion in the short term would be to fit a dimmer switch to the lighting so there can be more ambient evening dining.

We were a party of four. Two of us had been before so we were aware what to expect. The format of the menu had changed slightly in that there is now a set menu but even that offered some variation which the hosts were happy to work with. All the dishes were very good and sharing between 2 works well. Bringing your own bottle(s) of wine just makes this place fantastic value. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Fantastic menu full of interesting combinations and flavours. A set course of seven dishes you share between two plus two or three special dishes and dessert, if you can fit it in! Many of the dishes are vegetarian but then dotted with big meaty ones too. Packs so much flavour and the best food in Leeds. Jo and Stu are great hosts, very passionate and knowledgeable about food.

The menu changes every month with a vegetarian menu every first weekend - even for meat eaters, the veggie menu is highly recommended!

A fantastic place where none of the usual tick boxes apply. The food is of Michelin star quality and the passion from Jo who is front of house is clear to see. Serves a mix of vegetarian and unusual meat dishes I wouldn't normally choose but when you try them you are amazed.

Food was some of the best we have experienced. A nice mix of different tastes and things you probably wouldn't choose off an ala carte menu so brilliant so trying new things.
