We are a country pub situated deep in the heart of Sussex, supporting our community and local breweries.

Booked a table for 2pm but they'd already run out of stuffing, soon after they'd run out of Yorkshire puddings. We were in a nice corner but it meant that we kept getting overlooked for service: no extra drinks offered and we asked for the dessert menu but it was over 40 minutes before we had our order taken - and that was only because we went to the bar. That said, the welcome was friendly, had a lovely garden, good choice of drinks and the food good. Would go back.

Caesar salad was disappointingly bland with poor ratios. Yorkshire pudding was doughy, the meat was tough, the veggie border was dry. Not up to the usual standard we have experienced here

The food was excellent as ever. You do chips better than anyone else we know! Also it is many years since we have seen steak & kidney pudding on the menu and it was delicious! Please pass on compliments to the chef. Your staff are always courteous and attentive. Thank you.

I chose the Sussex Oak as a ‘halfway’ venue to meet a friend for lunch. We were helped by the weather which meant we could sit in the spacious garden. The menu is plentiful and varied - I had a delicious Brie, avocado and tomato sandwich and shared some chips which were absolutely amazing - just the right amount of crispiness. The landlord was friendly, chatty and welcoming - and there was the distant sound of children in the school playground as we chatted in the sunshine. All in all an idyllic experience!

We chose this venue randomly to meet up with friends travelling from Kingston - excellent half way location. Table reserved Warm welcome and drinks offered very promptly. Service was great - attentive, efficient but not intrusive. Food was lovely - fish & chips wonderfully dry fried - not remotely greasy Flexible - one of our party requested vegetables in place of chips - no worries Tasty pie Amazing ‘pile’ of prawns & avocado in the salad with well seasoned dressing ( we chose not to have starters or puddings) We were there for over three hours - no hint of need for us to leave The pub is dog friendly - we were overheard talking about meeting up for a dog walk - landlord presented us with a folded plasticised ordinance survey map covering the local area detailed walks All finishing at the pub - of course A random selection giving great results Thank you

Food was lovely, they were very busy for Mother’s Day and owner kindly gave us our drinks on the house for the wait which we were not expecting. Very nice pub too. Thank you
