Delicious food in a stunning setting.
No pricing was listed, so you kinda just had to roll with it. The food was prepared nicely, though none of the flavors jumped out at you. Everything seemed to be seasoned lightly, but still had a pleasant taste. Chicken was well cooked and retained a lot of moisture, but the skin could have had a better crisp to it. The espresso and desert was probably the best part of the meal!
The view and ambiance was worth the experience. I personally don't consider the meal itself as a $200+ meal, but I don't regret our choice to go. The half bottle of J.Lohr Cab was well priced and delicious! Staff was attentive and wonderful. They knew we had just gotten married and had their kitchen put "Congratulations", so that was a nice and appreciated touch!
Our waiter wasn’t very friendly
The service was slow
Couldn’t eat lunch outside, we went for the view
The weather cooperated to add to an even a more enjoyable day. The mimosas were TERRIFIC, the right blend of good champagne and good oj! We each had different entrees and there was not a scrap left. The views from our table were wonderful. It makes a difference eating a late lunch, as while we finished up there was no more table service (not for us though!) Thanks for a good memory!!! It was well worth the drive!
Really appreciated how, with reservations, they were able to put us right at the edge of the patio with a great view. Thank you so much for a great lunch!
A drink at Napenthe and dinner at The Sur. Perfect for our anniversary.
Loved the dining room. The food was very good. Service was great.
Great service, beautiful setting, incredible wine list and creative cuisine, Ventana brings it all. A must on the Big Sur coast.
Its is in a Spectacular... Setting... Could use a broader Menu...
Birthday for my wife
Servers were too fast to take the order. Food came out too fast. We were in and out of the restaurant in 30 minutes
We were extremely unhappy with the service. Some of our party ordered multiple appetizers for their main meal. I asked that they serve mine and my husbands meal at the same time. The waiter said yes, but mentioned that because of lack of space on the table he would bring the first set of appetizers but keep an eye out to then bring the next set with the main courses. This did not happen. We waited for over 40 mins after the first set of appetizers were brought and still no second round along with the main meals. The waiter never came round to keep us updated. We finally got his attention, he said would be soon. We asked for some extra bread, it never came. Ten minutes later the remaining food arrived. My husband had ordered the New York Strip medium. When it came it was bordering on Medium rare/rare. The center was dark purple still. We then had trouble getting the waiter's attention to have it taken back, where they re-fired the same meat. At this point my husband was livid and we took his steak to go. For the price severely overrated.
Always consistently good
Absolutely outstanding in every way...beautiful restaurant, excellent food and service
Everything was perfect, and to think I even debated getting dessert!
Very much enjoyed our birthday celebration dinner. Food and service was excellent.
Great food. It would have been nice to know what the items cost.
The view is everything for this place. Food is decent, and drinks are great. However, service could use some work. Servers were slow to respond, and drinks were made incorrectly. A gin and tonic arrived as a gin and soda; when the bartenders were notified, their response was that the tonic water dispenser was broken...but they still had bottled tonic water that they didn't think to substitute. But at least the view was amazing.
Food was good, but service was POOR. Food took 45 minutes to arrive when other people who came later got their food first without anyone coming over to explain why. Also, asked for the waiter twice and they never came by. Water glasses were never filled until asked for. Ordered a bottle of white wine and there was no ice bucket given. On top of the bad service, there was a 22% mandatory tip. I tip well when it's warranted, not just mandatory.
Our food was cold both times we dined there. It seemed that the food was pre made and warmed up.
Gorgeous views, lovely atmosphere and really tasty food. They treated us very well. We were delighted!
Perfect service. Food was excellent. No views from within the restaurant but lovely terrace with heaters in the winter. A bit expensive but you can’t go very wrong here.
Off season, midweek. Nice and quiet. Our waiter, Leonel, was wonderful.
After I left I got very I'll and was admitted to ER, you should verify cross contamination
Visiting Carmel for the weekend from Los Angeles, and Sur House was our best meal by far during our entire stay. Loved the food, view and top notch service. We were allow to sit outside since to terrace was closed but we got a lovely table with a view inside.
The food was good, but not outstanding. Service made up for that some as it was superb!
Menu for lunch is small and on top of that they were out of a couple things which we were not informed of up front. Other than that food was excellent and of course location is spectacular.
Fabulous view from the terrace and parts of the dining room. Lunch is very reasonably priced and the food was light, elegant, and delicious! Highly recommend for a perfect quick stop off PCH / Hwy 1
We had high expectations, but the food was a cold and there wasn’t as much ambiance.
Have eaten here several times since the reopened. The first time was great. This time the food was mediocre. My daughter ordered the Opah fish whIch was seriously undercooked (we are all fine with pan seared but this was raw). It was bland, no seasoning. My steak was nothing special. The duck was overcooked and flavorless. The green goddess dressing on the salad was not green goddess at all - lacking the chives and greens flavors...and it was drenched. Desserts weren’t bad. Our waiter was good but they kept taking away plates before everyone at the table was done - bad manners and made us feel rushed. The place was empty at 7 pm on Xmas eve. Really disappointing the restaurant has gone so downhill after all the improvements and new chef. My daughter had a very bad experience recently also when a huge noisy wedding was on the patio and she wasn’t forewarned. So much for her romantic quiet dinner - ruined.
Hoping they do better. We live there part time and not many options for a nice dinner.
Used to be good. Oh well.
Made reservations on open tabble but restaurant was closed :( Long drive for nothing and every where lese booked
Amazing food, excellent view and laid back vibe.
For Thanksgiving Dinner I chose “Roasted Turkey” and was very disappointed. The turkey had no taste, looked as if it had been cooked in a pressure cooker and was cut in huge thick lumps instead of properly carved. It was also so tough that I couldn’t cut it.
I informed the waiter but no-one talked to me about it.
The meal was very expensive for a Thanksgiving turkey dinner ($95 before tax and gratuity). especially because I couldn’t eat most of it.
Probably will not eat at The Sur House again and certainly will not recommend it.
Thanksgiving at the Sur House was a magnificent treat. While turkey was on the menu, other fabulously creative options attracted our party and they were scrumptious -especially the cioppino, potato crusted ling cod with fennel and butternut squash risotto. Dining al fresco with absolutely stunning views of the ocean and mountains made this Thanksgiving perhaps the most memorable of my life.
Simply superb! Outside seating with a view which was unexpected but very worthwhile!
