The Sur House is a nice place for lunch with a view of the Pacific Ocean. It was just upgraded and reopened last month. The burgers and wine were fine, but as expected overpriced.

Amazing location coupled with a very creative menu (Chef's Tasting Menu). Waiter Jose was perfect there when we needed him disappeared when we didn't. It is rare in California to have a 2.5 hour dinner without feeling rushed. This was never the case for us.

Expensive but well worth the price!

Service was lovely. Tuna crudo was excellent - I wished I ordered two. Burger was good but messy and fries were not good sadly.

Wonderful birthday lunch. The hamburger and the crispy Brussels sprouts were absolutely delicious.

We love this restaurant. The view is amazing and so is the food. We drive down from Monterey on occasion for the experience. We were very sad while it was closed. They did a great job renovating and the food is just as good as it was before. We will definitely be back.

So good to have the Ventana Inn open again and with it, the restaurant -- now known as Sur House. We launched there three weeks after reopening on a beautiful fall day. Setting is glorious. I had the shrimp roll, which was outstanding.my husband had the chicken sandwich which was surprisingly bland given the description. Service was friendly but very slow. Lunch menu was limited with no specials. After we ordered, food took a long time to come and tho they were quick with a desert menu, server took so long to return for our order that we decided to forgo (just as well!)

A very inviting creative menu from first course, exceptional tomato bisque, baby carrots through an amazing lemon tart topping off the evening. Between a first ever Egg in the hole beautifully collaborated with roasted artichoke and garlic cloves. Our main courses included a perfect medium rare ribeye and memorable very juicy chop. Sort of NYC, Chicago, New Orleans fusion meets and embraces the organic tradition of the Central Left Coast - it doesn’t get better than this!

Loud and boisterous at the bar. Food was passable but not great. For me not worth it.

Over the years this restaurant has been up and down. It's now WAY up. They have significantly remodeled and enhanced the outdoor experience and the food is terrific. Interesting and well prepared food with good options. The view is simply breathtaking. Well worth the drive from Carmel area or the south (once Hwy 1 is open).

Amazing dining experience at Big Sur! I had the 4 course tasting menu and every dish was delightful and creative. I couldn't believe the flavors that came out of each dish. I started with the Tuna Crudo, the tuna was so fresh! My halibut was accompanied by a clam chowder with fresh clams! The s'mores dessert was delicious!

I highly recommend the tasting menu, it will allow you to see how creative and well thought out the menu is.

Our server was excellent, he has worked at the restaurant for 16 years!

I can't wait to go back!

We had a great meal. The setting is beautiful--go early and get a drink at the bar to really appreciate the view. The tasting menu is a good value for Big Sur (where everything is expensive), though it hardly be called cheap. Best dish was the vegetarian-menu carrots, but we also enjoyed the crudo, duck, desserts.

Our 88 year old Dad said it was marvelous. He ordered the sword fish. My husband had the crab salad and i the shrimp. Splendid view. So happy that Ventana is once again, open.

The renovation of Sur House restaurant & The Edge Bar is excellent & the view of the Pacific is unsurpassed. The food was only average & very over-priced. The shrimp roll at $28 was bland & pairing it with additional carbs (French fries)was a poor choice of side; you can get them in any fast food place. Something like slaw would have been much preferred. The Dungeness crab salad at $26 was better, but contained very little crab.
