Had to wait well past our reservation time and we were Ventana guests. Hostess lied to us twice. Bar tender (yes one) didn’t even see us. Had to get her attention after waiting 10 minutes. The menu was pre-fix which should have been communicated. Perhaps I missed that while making the reservation. Took a long, long time to eat. Server tried his best but didn’t have great support from the kitchen.
Excellent new chef!
Food was super average, at best. It is very commercialized because of the view and doesn’t have a vibe of an upscale exclusive restaurant (which you would expect given the prices of the Ventana).
Would not suggest if you can go to Post Ranch instead.
The food was very good and so was the service. Unfortunately the weather was cooperating and there was fog so we didn’t have any view. The outdoor dining space is very comfortable and I’m sure on a clear day there would be spectacular views.
Sadly the food was really not good. We sent back our entrees which we never do. Lunch the same - sent back. Service was very nice but disorganized and slow .
Very delicious creative food, great service, great portion size.
Excellent by all accounts. At $95 for a four-course prix fix menu - it was a tremendous value.
Great loved it
Came here for dinner and then breakfast the following morning. Views were incredible, food was good but not spectacular, staff was very disorganized and wasn't very friendly / accommodating. We came on a beautiful sunny morning and we (and others) wanted nothing more than to have coffee and breakfast on the beautiful outdoor patio. We were told the patio was closed and there was absolutely nothing they could do to accommodate our wishes. It was as if we were there during the off season, except it was Memorial Day Weekend! Sur House is solid. If you want a really special experience though, check out Sierra Mar across the street.
Delicious food in a stunning setting.
No pricing was listed, so you kinda just had to roll with it. The food was prepared nicely, though none of the flavors jumped out at you. Everything seemed to be seasoned lightly, but still had a pleasant taste. Chicken was well cooked and retained a lot of moisture, but the skin could have had a better crisp to it. The espresso and desert was probably the best part of the meal!
The view and ambiance was worth the experience. I personally don't consider the meal itself as a $200+ meal, but I don't regret our choice to go. The half bottle of J.Lohr Cab was well priced and delicious! Staff was attentive and wonderful. They knew we had just gotten married and had their kitchen put "Congratulations", so that was a nice and appreciated touch!
Our waiter wasn’t very friendly
The service was slow
Couldn’t eat lunch outside, we went for the view
The weather cooperated to add to an even a more enjoyable day. The mimosas were TERRIFIC, the right blend of good champagne and good oj! We each had different entrees and there was not a scrap left. The views from our table were wonderful. It makes a difference eating a late lunch, as while we finished up there was no more table service (not for us though!) Thanks for a good memory!!! It was well worth the drive!
Really appreciated how, with reservations, they were able to put us right at the edge of the patio with a great view. Thank you so much for a great lunch!
A drink at Napenthe and dinner at The Sur. Perfect for our anniversary.
Loved the dining room. The food was very good. Service was great.
Great service, beautiful setting, incredible wine list and creative cuisine, Ventana brings it all. A must on the Big Sur coast.
Its is in a Spectacular... Setting... Could use a broader Menu...
Birthday for my wife
Servers were too fast to take the order. Food came out too fast. We were in and out of the restaurant in 30 minutes
We were extremely unhappy with the service. Some of our party ordered multiple appetizers for their main meal. I asked that they serve mine and my husbands meal at the same time. The waiter said yes, but mentioned that because of lack of space on the table he would bring the first set of appetizers but keep an eye out to then bring the next set with the main courses. This did not happen. We waited for over 40 mins after the first set of appetizers were brought and still no second round along with the main meals. The waiter never came round to keep us updated. We finally got his attention, he said would be soon. We asked for some extra bread, it never came. Ten minutes later the remaining food arrived. My husband had ordered the New York Strip medium. When it came it was bordering on Medium rare/rare. The center was dark purple still. We then had trouble getting the waiter's attention to have it taken back, where they re-fired the same meat. At this point my husband was livid and we took his steak to go. For the price severely overrated.
Always consistently good
Absolutely outstanding in every way...beautiful restaurant, excellent food and service
Everything was perfect, and to think I even debated getting dessert!
Very much enjoyed our birthday celebration dinner. Food and service was excellent.
Great food. It would have been nice to know what the items cost.
The view is everything for this place. Food is decent, and drinks are great. However, service could use some work. Servers were slow to respond, and drinks were made incorrectly. A gin and tonic arrived as a gin and soda; when the bartenders were notified, their response was that the tonic water dispenser was broken...but they still had bottled tonic water that they didn't think to substitute. But at least the view was amazing.
Food was good, but service was POOR. Food took 45 minutes to arrive when other people who came later got their food first without anyone coming over to explain why. Also, asked for the waiter twice and they never came by. Water glasses were never filled until asked for. Ordered a bottle of white wine and there was no ice bucket given. On top of the bad service, there was a 22% mandatory tip. I tip well when it's warranted, not just mandatory.
Our food was cold both times we dined there. It seemed that the food was pre made and warmed up.
Gorgeous views, lovely atmosphere and really tasty food. They treated us very well. We were delighted!
Perfect service. Food was excellent. No views from within the restaurant but lovely terrace with heaters in the winter. A bit expensive but you can’t go very wrong here.
Off season, midweek. Nice and quiet. Our waiter, Leonel, was wonderful.
After I left I got very I'll and was admitted to ER, you should verify cross contamination
Visiting Carmel for the weekend from Los Angeles, and Sur House was our best meal by far during our entire stay. Loved the food, view and top notch service. We were allow to sit outside since to terrace was closed but we got a lovely table with a view inside.
The food was good, but not outstanding. Service made up for that some as it was superb!
Menu for lunch is small and on top of that they were out of a couple things which we were not informed of up front. Other than that food was excellent and of course location is spectacular.
Fabulous view from the terrace and parts of the dining room. Lunch is very reasonably priced and the food was light, elegant, and delicious! Highly recommend for a perfect quick stop off PCH / Hwy 1
