Lunch here is the thing to do while in Big Sur. The view from the outside dining area is spectacular. This is must do every time we are in Big Sur.
This is y 2d trip to Sur House. The site is, of course, fantastic. Big Sur in spring or any other season just beautiful. Lunch was great. We had the Surf and Turf, Chicken and cheese burger. All were great. The deserts, ice cream, cheese cake, and chocolate"pot". The only item that was a bit too sophisticated for our palates. The deviled egg was like no other I have ever seen. unless you like deviled eggs with a very loose "develing" topped with a muscle and bits of caviar. That aside, the meal, the service, the ambiance, and location were all great!
We had the pre-fix menu. I started w/ a Manhattan, which was great. The first two plates were quite good. But both my wife and my entree was underwhelming. She had Salmon, and it had a strange bean paste on it. The quality of the fish was very good, but the sauce was not complementary to the fish. I had a similar issue w/ my main. I had a chickpea dish. It came out like tofu and was very bland. It also had a similar dark / bean past like sauce that was not appealing. It seems like the chef was experimenting or something. The next night we ate at the bar and had a burger and fries, which was really good.
We had great service from Paco. It was a wonderful evening.
Ever since the new chef arrived the food has been innovative and outstanding. The new patio design and landscaping is spectacular
Lunch on the cliff was everything I expected it to be. We were blessed with sunshine and family!
The food was super tasty and plentiful. We did the 4 course pre fixe.
Very lovely space and excellent service. Food was quite good— the Chef’s menu had many exciting choices— the mussel salad was particularly good.
The most extraordinary view of the Pacific Ocean from the terrace. We went for lunch (mid road trip down Pacific Coast Highway) and it was totally breathtaking. Exceptional service, beautiful and tasty food, great wine and cocktail menu and one of the best views on our vacation.
Absolutely fabulous. Amazing service and a wonderfully relaxed feel to the place. The views were also amazing. I would love to go back there and also stay at the hotel.
Great view, wonderful place !!
The menu that's presented at The Sur House is a tasting menu with the option of ordering anything on the menu a la carte. This is a very nice option. BUT there are no prices on the menu other than the cost of the full tasting menu. Our group found this to be very annoying not to mention a little pretentious. I think anyone would agree that it would be nice to have prices for all items on the menu.
Incredible view and wonderful service.
Top notch - very friendly staff, chatted and engaged with us throughout - good wine reco’s and the food was excellent.... pricey but worth it..... you will enjoy everything about this restaurant, it’s ambience, locale and setting.
It was perfect.
Always had the best food and experience. The view is awesome and the food is great. We drive from SF to big sur just for the food and the view. totally worth it.
Let me start off with our Server Paco was on point and ambiance is great. Food was ok, but I expected a lot more for the venue and price. Won’t be coming back for dinner, but would repeat for drinks and a sunset...
Gorgeous. Amazing food. Incredible service. Loved every second of it!
The Sur restaurant is not just a place to grab a meal. It is a destination. The creative menu and healthy ingredients compliment the amazing natural setting of this restaurant.
Dinner at the Sur House was pleasant, but an overkill. We were staying at the inn, and for dinner at the restaurant, only a tasting menu was available. It involved 4 courses for $90. While each dish was good, we could only eat 2 courses. An ala carte menu would work better for us. We did appreciate having a vegetarian option although the choices were very limited. Service was excellent.
Very needed vacation. Lovely stay. A few flaws in meal, but overall very nice.
Absolutely outstanding venue with wonderful garden fresh food! Great drinks! Service was spot on with being available without overbearing. Must see and eat if I’m Carmel
Where to begin with The Sur House! The entire experience was exquisite. I had a reservation for 1 and ended up sitting at the bar and kicking it with Clara, the bartender. Chef Paul’s tasting menu was delectable. The poke, egg in a hole, halibut, and rosemary shortcake will be etched in my brain for awhile. The overall vibe of the Sur House was very warm and inviting. The restaurant staff appears extremely flexible and willing to accommodate the guests in any way they can to provide a wonderful dining experience. I know where I’m eating the next time I’m in Big Sur.
Menu selection is limited and - there was one salad choice which was not very good. Our entries - Salmon & Halibut were just average. Expect more for the price paid.
For sure worth the drive! The prix-fixe menu can be pricey, but the setting outside is worth it. Very tranquil and peaceful.
Wonderful views, great food.
Chef tasting menu a little bit too much: first, second and dessert may be enough.
Great service & food. Nice wine list. Fantastic surroundings...made for a great night out with my wife and a friend.
The most breathtaking views! High on a hill with majestic mountain view behind, and endless ocean expanse in front. We were there for a weekday lunch on the large outdoor patio. The fried oyster lettuce wraps were crispy and refreshing with a Thai spring roll kick. Shishito peppers were perfectly grilled. Service was friendly and attentive. Cocktails were outstanding. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys delicious food and drinks in a gorgeous natural setting.
Service was embarrassing and severely lacking. Had to beg and wait fir check after not seeing our server even once during our meal. Top it all off he tried to keep my credit card on Easter Sunday. It wasn't busy AT ALL which should have been my first clue.
We made a reservation for Easter Brunch and we couldn’t be happier. The view was gorgeous and the food delicious. Our server was happy and attentive. My Hummingbird cocktail was tasty as was my lamb salad. I will definitely come back when in Big Sur.
Awesome lunch with family & friends!
Great food and amazing view...looks heavenly sitting on top of the clouds and fog beneath us by the hill. Definitely worth a visit! Would come back again for a meal and possibly a stay at the losge
Amazing service, people was must kindly ever, I got engaged in the restaurant and it was an excellent decision.
We really enjoyed it!
We were disappointed that the restaurant did not have ocean view. The noise level is very high. There were multiple small children and dogs. Some guests were wearing shorts and flip flops at dinner time. For a high priced restaurant this should not be allowed or there should be a separate section for guests with children and/or dogs and guests that want a casual dinner.
It was my 65th birthday, which the restaurant knew, but our service wasn’t great. The server even threatened us to lose our table if we chose to sit in the bar to watch the end of the NCAA basketball finals. He then relented but never was very congenial & never made any mention of my birthday. The food was good but certainly not up to the excellence we expected. Overall it was a bit disappointing.
The staff and service was awesome!
•the menu was very inventive—no two dishes had the same theme and main ingredients were seldom repeated.
•portions were appropriately substantial.
•our server was attentive and accommodating.
•the casual atmosphere was a pleasant surprise.
•would recommend for a “fancy” dining experience in big sur!
Unmatched view of the Pacific Coast and great ambiance. Excellent but unpretentious dining.
