We were seated upstairs and it was a beautiful day. The food was great - we all had the fish tacos and our waiter was attentive but not overpowering. My friend loved it and it was the perfect place to celebrate her birthday.
It took a long time for someone to come by and offer water -- The food was so/so. the noise was crazy due to some car show going on - I can't blame the restaurant for that. I would go back for a drink, however.
Everything was great, perfect sunset and food
Everything about the Sunset was outstanding. I couldn't have asked for a better restaurant to visit in Malibu on a day off from work. Great service, the food was incredible. I definitely will be going back there again.
Excellent service! Food was fantastic. Can’t wait to return.
It seems like it's changed since I was there last year. Maybe new ownership. Very noisy and more casual dining. That maybe OK for some people, but not my preference.
Great as always we love coming here after our walk once a month they are very accommodating to our group and even separate checks!!
I’ve always had a great experience at The Sunset Restaurant; we had a party of four for Valentine’s Day and the service was slow, the special menu was limited, and the banquet style additional seating was uncomfortable.
We’ll still go back based on prior experiences and faith.
This was the first time here for my husband and me, and we were very happy with the food, service and ambiance. We will definitely be back!
Having an Open Table reservation saved the day! Many people arrived without a reservation and were turned away.
It was valentines day so I can understand them being busy. But I'm someone who drinks water like a fish, and me/my girlfriend just came back from a hike and were quite parched. They put us in the back of the restaurant and filled our water cups like twice.
It was Valentines Day and everything was perfect! Warm rolls, delicious oysters and salad...
Good food and location without breaking the bank. Across from a small street from the beach. Parking is easy to find between their lot and the street parking.
Location is amazing! Restaurant is very busy, so service does suffer. Food is good. This visit was a bit disappointing- was my birthday. I traveled from out of state with my son and was really looking forward to dinner at The Sunset, have been several times previously and I really enjoy this place because of the location. As a surprise, my best friend from out of state had called the restaurant earlier and spoke to the manager requesting they charge her credit card for our meal/drinks and also provide a dessert..plus 25% for a tip. My friend provided her credit card info and was told it would be handled. Did NOT happened. Of course I did not find out until later that my friend had planned this...was really bummed, and also bummed for my friend that her surprised was ruined. Not the end of the world by any means, just disappointed. Service for sure needs a little polishing at The Sunset, but again, this location is so beautiful, I guess you have to just take in all the beauty and forget the rest!
I enjoyed dinner at The Sunset twice in the last two weeks and had a far better experience on Thursday. Saturday the service was incredibly slow and inattentive. The food was good on both occasions, the fried calamari was perfectly prepared with a lively sauce. The linguine with clams was very well balanced and had nice sized clams - don't you hate it when you get a lot of empty shells? The chowder was not the best - lukewarm and a bit on the salty side. Of course, you can't beat the view and prices were not unreasonable.
Overall, a great place for a special weeknight sunset dinner.
We love this place, the service is excellent, food is delicious and the location is the best
Great view, decent food, very Malibu.
Went to celebrate a birthday. Food was great . Beautiful views and good service!
Enjoyed the spectacular location right on the beach. Clam chowder was delicious and a huge portion. Fish tacos good as well. It was pretty noisy so if you want a quiet dinner this is not the place. But a fun beachside vibe.
We go for the sunsets and the beach. The food, while good, is secondary to the view and the ambience.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE
Cozy corner table on the second floor with superb service.. spectacular views.. delicious food. A must!
Great location - great views - beachy vibe - great service
They were awesome!! They let us do separate checks we come once a month this is our second time we will make this a regular meet for this!!!
Food was great, but service was really disappointing. Host and server were not friendly at all.
Love the view, food and service!
All went well. Food and drinks were good as usual.
I don’t appreciate gratuity added to my bill. It’s low class, disrespectful and most importantly illegal in the state of California.
Started off 2020 with a fabulous view of the beach and a very tasty Salmon Benedict. Be sure to get the freshly made on the premises blueberry jam if you have toast. Amazing.
We enjoyed our New Year’s Eve dinner at The Sunset. The menu was limited, though offering a broad variety of entrees the appetizer selection was disappointing and inordinately expensive. We also noted prices were raised by about 20% for the evening. The filet, chicken and pasta dishes were excellent and well-prepared. The crab stuffed salmon seemed to be missing the crab, which was a disappointment. Our primary server was less attentive than we would have expected but others pitched in to help. Desserts were phenomenal.
Nice place. Food was good, but under spiced. Still worth the experience and view.
Hostess was fairly unfriendly. Waiter completely forgot our cocktails and forgot butter. Not sure if the restaurant no longer uses tablecloths at all anymore, but they weren't using them on Sunday, which made a marked difference in the ambience. I've had several good dining experiences at this restaurant in the past however, this time it was nice but not at the same level.
We have been to the Sunset many times, mainly for lunch on the weekend. We really enjoy the setting and the food is very good. First time with the waiter we had today, I think his name was Omar. He seemed like he was very busy, I don't know how many tables he had. Normally our waiters have been more attentive. But we still enjoyed our lunch.
They lost their power just as we got there. Had to leave. Will be back.
It’s a little cold in the room. Bring a warm sweater.
The service was impeccable. The food was delicious and the view from table twenty-one was outstanding!
Lovely. I like upstairs.
