Swanky spot but could be better.
Lights could be a bit dimmer for a more romantic ambiance.
There's a piano player who plays music but that's about it. Once he/she stops playing, you can hear everyone's conversation. Some light music over speakers wouldn't hurt.
We only ordered 1 drink each and they were exceptional so 👍🏾
My preferred Chef was not on duty tonight, that's why my rating wasn't a 5-star all the way.
The server was the only person covering the bar and restaurant. So, service was very slow.
The piano player was outstanding and helped to mask the arrival of an 8-person table.

The Study is a hidden gem in Old Town Alexandria! Situated in The Morrison Hotel, The Study is a relaxed lounge with delicious cocktails and a small plates menu. Our visit on a Thursday evening was greeted with a pianist playing requests, we lingered for a few hours enjoying a number of fine bourbons. We look forward to our next visit.
Amazing bartender and would Def go back for the lump crab toast... Delicious! Lamb and pork belly taco was so so.
My girlfriends and I went here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were the only ones in The Study although there were others in the bar area. We received great attention from the waiter/bartender and chef.
Great food. Great drinks. Great ambiance. We plan on going back soon.
Wonderful small plates, we tried about all of them. The lamb is to die for, all were beyond exceptional. Craig, the weekend bartender was absolutely delightful to talk with and the people passing through were fun to talk with. As a local, this is a hidden gem and a fun way to see visitors to our great town.

Have had breakfast and bar bites at this restaurant. Both dayparts had excellent food. Usually only 1 waiter working as the restaurant is small and not very busy.
Was there with my family and had one of the best time near Washington. Service and food are excellent.
The menu options need to be updated on Open Table as now they only have "small plates". The food was pretty good and it was filling. The hostess/bartender/waitress Cynthia was GREAT. She encouraged us to give the small plates a chance and we are glad we stayed. After a while they had a live pianist and the place started to jump. I would go back for a nice summer happy hour.

LOVE the decor and cocktails; it was a quite night, so the single person in charge of hosting, bartending and waiting did a good job of covering us (the only diners!) plus the bar guests. Food was okay...good taste, prepared fine, though it had just a touch of "not-quite-gourmet" to it. Still, we'd go again -- the place is so lovely and the drinks divine.
Overall I enjoyed my time. It was a little to quiet for my own taste, however I was there during brunch hour. Our server seemed to be distracted by other things. Overall food was good. I would go back, perhaps for the evening ambiance.
The food and decor are quite nice. But the service is ridiculous. The one guy working brunch was very nice, but there needs to be more staffing. All of the other reviews mention this -- and are accurate. We waited 20 mins to place our order and even longer for the food to arrive. Don't come hungry (or impatient).
What a lovely, cozy restaurant! I went for Mother's Day brunch and was delighted to find that they were serving brunch all day. The staff was so nice and attentive and even took care of my mom's valet bill for Mother's Day. Great set-up, good food, nice people. Very special, I would recommend them to anyone!
Easter Sunday Brunch, only one server working the entire dining room. He did his best but what poor planning regarding staffing - its not hard to predict that on Easter they may have more diners than usual. The experience was hard to enjoy, the stress level was palpable.
The restaurant was severely understaffed. One person did everything— he was a he host, server, and buster. Although he did his valiant best, the understaffing lead to slow service.
He ought to get a big bonus to encourage more employees to work on Easter.
Unfortunately, the place was empty. And we weren’t super excited about the menu. The people were lovely, but we were looking for a different vibe and opted to move on.
It was empty and the chef still couldn’t get out a steak medium rare. It came out well done and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Sent it back and it came out and Uber rare. Also purple... staff was great but the food wasn’t!
Cant really recommend it as i may never eat there again. Wasn’t given an ice tea i asked for all i got was water the whole dinner. My wifes meat was undercooked then 2nd dish was completely raw. Bread was harder than a rock. Salmon was on the verge of not being cooked. And on top of that we were charged for a jumbo lump crab dinner that neither of us ordered. Only plus was the waitress was very nice and apologetic. Not impressed. And may hinder us ever eating or stating there. Sad because i had held the morrision house to such a high regard. Kind of an embarrassing valentines dinner.
Service was not good i think you need more than one waiter and one that is not the bartender at the same time. Not sure we will return.
Visited on a Friday night. Reservation was for 6:15 and we were the only ones in th dining room for probably 30 minutes. Makes you wonder but the food was very tasty, cocktails were good and when we left 2 other parties had arrived. It's not cheap...4 cocktails, 2 apps and a split entree came in at $120 but it was a nice date night.
Service was real slow and there were only two other people there. We kept having to re-ask for refills, water and in the end the wrong price was charged to our credit card which then had to be straightened out ... not the best experience
Best gnocchi ever! The food was exquisite. Limited menu and fledgling restaurant (they had to get their dinner bread from another restaurant) but what they do have is delicious!
We planned to spend our New Years dinner here. We arrived and there was no host, no servers, only a single bartender working. We were not spoken to for 15 minutes after sitting down. We found another place within walking distance after waiting so long. This is obviously a sorry attempt at a hotel restaurant and not a serious restaurant. I will not be returning.
This is a nice restaurant. However the Bartender was also acting as the waiter, the service suffered. Also the food was just ok.

The ambience could be great if only the food and service stepped up. There was also no music which was odd. There was one other table the entire time we were there which was awkward. The service was bad. Our drinks took forever and didn’t come out together. Two people on staff the whole night (including behind the bar). One of the staff seemed to need to tell the other what to do the entire time. It was odd and seemed like a lot of tension.
The food was just so bad. The menu was small which alarmed us but we though perhaps they were really good at the things they did. nope! I had cucumber and avocado rolls to start, which could have been so good with some Asian flair to it or something, instead it was drowned in a balsamic reduction. Two of the main dishes had identical sides served with it which is just lazy on a menu that small. The chicken and salmon were so overdone. You couldn’t out a fork through the salmon. Our other dining date had the gnocchi which remained barely touched due to just not being worth eating. Wine tasted like it had been opened 2 weeks ago or was stolen from the local church wine collection. Paying $13 a glass for a bottle that’s only $9 is robbery. At least get some obscure brands so your customers don’t know you are ripping them off. Until they redo the menu and revamp the service and wine list do not go here. The prices are in the same Ball Park as Brabo at the Lorien and there at least got get a decent meal and wine list. $$$$$$
One server on a saturday night and she was also the bartender and hostess!! So slow...even with only 1 other table.
One couple was there for a business meeting and were obnoxiously loud in the space and the staff did nothing to quiet them down.
Staff was kind and helpful, but only one server was on duty, so we waited to be seated and we waited to pay the bill.
Limited menu was nice, but had nothing special on it. I felt like it was just an overpriced omelette. I got the corned beef hash ... but it wasn't a hash, more like a stew. Not what I was expecting and not particularly good.
Not sure what’s going on since they were once the Grill at Morrison House, then Ashlar, now MoHo... Fantastic servers tried to accommodate, so the review is not addressed to them, but to the food quality and value. Serving Well underdone food is unacceptable and unfortunately constitutes the poor review. The French toast was ok and the corn beef hash interpretation was equally ok. Again, the servers were truly professional, apologetic, and asked if they could recommend something else, but I was let down and chose to just sip water while my family finished their meal.
Great service and excellent food , the attached hotel is a beautiful old classic.
This is the restaurant inside the Morrison House hotel. We were looking for a place to get breakfast on a Sunday morning and saw on Open Table they had availability. The room was nearly empty, maybe two other parties. It took more than 45 minutes to get two breakfasts of fried eggs, potatoes, bacon and toast. When the food finally arrived it was fine. Something is very off in how the place is run. Might explain why there was no wait late on a Sunday morning.
