Booked a family dinner for my father’s birthday at this restaurant and had a fantastic time! The ambiance is old school Oktoberfest. The seating arrangements are comfortable. The menu choices provided something for everyone — even the pickiest eater. The cocktails were strong and delicious. The appetizers of potato pancakes and bratwurst were excellent. The main dishes were also wonderful, ranging at our table from a steak to scrod to knackwurst to Wiener schnitzel. We left happy and full. Plus the service was personable and just attentive enough without being intrusive or overbearing. I’d go back without hesitation and bring friends!
The food, service and lively Octoberfest ambiance made my father’s 92nd birthday an even more memorable occasion. The waiter getting the entire restaurant to sing happy birthday made an old gentleman feel very special!
We have visited The Student Price a few times a year for over 30 years. We always stop for a meal while driving by and other times we just drive there for a special treat. The food is always fantastic. The extensive menu has something for everybody. The traditional decor is reminiscent of their heritage with beautiful steins and china in full display. You feel welcomed with the entire family kids included. The servers are experienced, attentive and accommodating.
October fest is extra special with authentic German food and beer.
I miss the wonderful pate that they used to serve and can’t help to look at the menu hoping to find it again- one for appetizer and one to take home.
When we arrived we expected to eat inside the main dining room but was placed outside, it took a while for our waitress to greet us and get us drinks. Fortunately it was a warm evening. The food was not like the Fort from the past.
One person ordered from the Sunday brunch buffet which was very good and had a great variety. The other three ordered off the German menu, we were disappointed they were out of Spatzel. The booths were uncomfortable. But, overall it’s a good place and we would go back.
We went to the fort just my husband and I for my husband’s 80th birthday while the ambience and the waiter was superb I would say that the food was below par we had veal and it was very chewy not a good quality which we don’t expect from the fort. Hopefully the next time we go we will experience something better with regard to the food
Loved this place! We sat outside with a large party (including a few kids). The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great--it was an Oktoberfest weekend which also made it fun. Everyone got the brunch buffet, which was good, but not great--a pretty standard buffet. The regular menu looks delicious, so we are planning to return for a more traditional German meal. I highly recommend.
2nd year at Brunch here. We would have preferred that they serve you at the buffet as they did last year due to ongoing Covid concerns. Food was good except for the omelets station, omelets for all 3 of us were overdone and greasy and filling was not chopped up enough. Ham, onion, peppers too big. Last year the omelets were amazing and fluffy. Would go back again next year as this could have been a fluke. Also bees continue to be a problem outdoors.
Sat outside on a perfect fall day. Service was very good. Apps were good. Entrees were large - easily shareable.
It was great, expect yourself to be transported to a restaurant in Germany, complete with decor, live accordion music (because it was October), and a giant plate full of delicious food. The food came so quickly. We did giggle a bit because it was all so authentic feeling. A fun and yummy dining experience.
For a German redtaurant to serve brown and serve sausage is really aweful; the combination of good offerings was reall strange; yhe pork was dry; the rice tasteless and not cooked properly; the roast ref had nothing to go with it ie some kind of potatoes and something iver than the tasteless overcooked vegetables they had -and there was bones in my fish and tails on my shrimp!!! Pretty awful and disappointing
I’m always pleased with the food and service
There is no better place in Massachusetts for German food
The service staff is professional and polite with a sense of humor
the closest replication of a Bavarian dining experience in the area. amazing food, service and ambiance.
My favorite German Restaurant! Best schnitzel and red cabbage. Great German Beer to wash it down. Newer owners have maintained the history and integrity of the historic restaurant. Service was friendly and prompt. Made this old line restaurant even better!
Another excellent meal. The House Roquefort dressing is great.
The service from our waiter, hostess and servers who explained lunch offered great customer service!
The best thing about brunch was were the hard beverages & the freshly made omelette. The rest of the food was not fresh, waffles, French toast very hard & cold.
Price of brunch, reasonable
Fantastic German food! The pretzel is delicious and the presentation is conversation-worthy. I had the classic Wiener schnitzel which was light and delightful. My husband had the wurst plate. The dessert was a delicate chocolate mousse, although I forgot the official name. Service was great - our waitress was a sweetheart. Check this place out!
Lunch menu is limited, but contains the most popular items Must try the pretzel app
Service here is always excellent. Waiter this time was a bit pushy when it came to special drinks and desserts. Otherwise professional, attentive, etc.
Can't miss Sunday Brunch. Great value for the money.
Always outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Paprika Snitzel sided by tasty spatzel and half and half Spaten delighted us. The Indian Pudding was a fitting ending. A must go for all.
Absolutely delicious! Cannot wait to go back!
I’ve been going here since I was a baby, literally in the 60’s, had my first everything here. Birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, work, play, etc. Always happy it’s still here and still delicious! Not a lot stays the same in life but The Fort is in my heart and still serving up memories!
The food was good. The staff never came to refill waters. And never came back after collecting the check.
The goulash was great. The späzle and red cabbage were great. The pot roast was too dry.
The food was perfect for all 4 of us! Desserts were great (except out of apple dessert) which my sister really wanted for her birthday dessert. Ambiance was great! I can’t remember our servers name but she was terrific!!
Always a delicious, relaxing and enjoyable! Great service, wonderful authentic food!
We have loved the Student Prince for decades… great German beer on tap and excellent food!
Don't miss out on the potato pancake! And make sure you go deep with the apple sauce on top 👌
The sauces of our paprika and Jager schnitzel were too salty. The prices are a little too high. The waitress suggested an alternative whiskey to a friend without telling her that it was much more expensive. She could have been friendlier.
The atmosphere is always cozy and Old World.
Waiter entered our order incorrectly. Food was good but portion was too much food.
If you're in Springfield, this is the place! Ambiance: the indoor dining room is a charming and cozy, but lively. Suitable for dates, families, groups of friends alike. Now, for the COVID-19 pandemic, they added an amazing outdoor dining area, with heaters and really festive streamers and string lights overhead. Very cheerful and comfortable! Food: outstanding and plenty of it. We got a German appetizer platter with all kids of goodies. Highly recommend. Two or more people could easily share that over drinks and be full. But we are not those people - we also got generously sized and tasty entrees! They came with a choice of sides - an impressive variety of sides were on offer from fries and veg to traditional German spaetzle (home made, so good) and sautéed red cabbage. Beverages: unbelievable beer list selection, plus wine soft drinks and mixed drinks. Service: unbeatable. Fast, friendly but not rushed. The prices were reasonable and I highly recommend that you try it!
The staff made our date night even better! Between that, the food and the music outside, we really enjoyed ourselves. We’ll be back!
Excellent food and service!
Great food and Beer on tap. Brought me back to Sunday afternoon dinner in Astoria at Oma's
The only issue is it's a bit pricey but nothing new, and the filet minion didn't describe it was in sauce my son wasn't expecting that.
Outstanding traditional German dishes priced right.
Great Food and Drinks!
Will definitely be back!
