Lovely traditional pub/restaurant with good service and lovely food.
Beautiful food, really friendly and helpful service. Very welcoming to our young children.
Always lovely food and friendly staff.
Have been to The Stone Trough a few times and to a degree take the slow service as red, but this was extra slow, took ages to get a drinks order and the starters but within seconds of our starter plates leaving the table, the mains plates arrived, food ambient temperature not hot, the butter did not melt at all on the steak. View fab and have had some nice meals there but this is the third time now we have waited ages.
The staff were very courteous, efficient and attentive. The food (a vegan steak with chips and mushrooms) was excellent, tasty and well presented, and an interesting alternative. The pub is a lovely environment and blessed with a beautiful setting. The only very minor niggle was the music was a little too loud for me, but certainly didn’t marr the experience and may suit other people. ( to be clear, it wasn’t blasting, but as it was early, the pub was not full of people, which may have made it seem louder)
I would certainly recommend the pub and return.
Unfortunately they sat us in the doorway so we had to receive guests before they were seated.
This place is great for people with dogs, but being in the entrance we had to put up with them.
The food was good , one comment , no serving spoons were provided with the vegetables, disappointing.
The decorations and carpet and leaking radiator need some TLC.
Sunday lunch was relatively tasty, although quite cold.
Sticky toffee pudding was dry and tasteless.
The conservatory restaurant was full of dogs, very unexpected and smiled really bad.
Service slow, inattentive, had to ask many times for table to be cleared.
Desserts never appeared, and after a lengthy wait our ticket had been mixed up in the kitchen. No apology.
This place is really hit or miss.
Lovely food, gorgeous view and very pleasant staff
Not as good as I remembered. The food was fine but not brilliant (little things like no sauce with the duck) and the service was very slow (an hour for food to turn up on a fairly quiet Friday lunch). I appreciate they're probably struggling with staff at the moment but they could have told us on ordering how long it might take, we had some people cycling home who needed to get to school pick up.
Good choice of food from nibbles, starters & mains.
Great Sunday roast . Nice spot and all freshly prepared just like home !!
I hadn’t been to the Stone Trough for some years, although frequently pass by. I was very pleased with my meal and service and will be calling again.
Beautiful food, lovely pub. Look forward to our next visit.
Having read some recent reviews, some negative some positive, I thought I would try it for myself and I am glad I went as the service was spot on as we were seated straight away . We have 3 dogs so asked if we could sit outside which was no problem but we were given the option to dine inside the pub if we wanted to.
The food and drinks were served without too much of a wait and the food was spot on , I had the fish and chips and my wife had the vegetarian option of Not Fish and Chips and both were good sized portions and very tasty.
Will definitely return when we are back in the area
Excellent value for quality food and service. The setting is superb too
Lovely food and great staff. We will definitely be back!
A lovely evening in a great setting. Menu choice great. Service good. Beautiful part of the world. What made it even better was the ability to park our Motorhome in the car park and stop overnight - really grateful for that and it will encourage other Motorhome owners to visit the restaurant
A opinion of a side order of extra veg would have been nice.
Great pub food for a reasonable price at a lovely location. We arrived at quite a busy time (a very large party were in) so the staff were understandably a bit flustered but overall a pleasant meal and experience.
If you drink wine then get a loan before you go.
Nine pound for a large glass.
Wont stop us going again but will have a different drink.
Gorgeous food and service only thing my fiancé was uncomfy on the small table. It was a last min booking though... all in all will be definitely going back.
We were sat down on time and food came out promptly but not too quickly! Everything was lovely with the food and all staff we spoke to were very polite and professional! Only small issue was that it would have been nice to have patio heaters on in the outside seating but this didn’t spoil our experience in any way
Good service from attentive staff
Unfortunately let down by below average food for main courses although starters were good
A lovely pub/restaurant excellent location, good car parking. Food was very good and service too.
We were well looked after and dietary needs respected and normalised.
Easy to book and glad we did… people were being disappointed when no tables were available. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and well presented. Also good value. Will definitely be going again.
It’s set in lovely countryside too… was a good trip out.
Warm welcome, really good proper pub food & lovely wine. Great value at £80 for 4 people. Thoroughly recommended.
I booked in advance and was early. Was kindly seated in the bar area until our table was ready. Moved into a very noisy dining area. Meals looked ok. Put vinegar on my chips only to find 5 dead flies in the bottle. Waitress tried to assure me the vinegar was changed daily!!!?i I doubt that. Waitress knocked off the cost of 1 meal but I felt sick to the stomach after eating it then seeing the flies. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
4 of us went for a late lunch. We all had different meals and all really enjoyed our food. We had a very helpful waitress who checked the allergens in a couple of meals for my husband. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and we didn’t feel rushed. We would definitely go back again.
A lovely setting and good choice of food but a little ungenerous with the drinks (large head on the pints - and this from a Yorkshire man!). The young staff seemed to be struggling a little to cope and a dropped onion ring was not replaced. The vegan steak option was very small and no vegetables.
The only thing that stands out from our visit was the incredibly uncomfortable bench seat we had. It should really be taken out of the pub as it’s not fit for purpose. The staff were so busy that I didn’t think they’d appreciate being asked to supply cushions, so rolled up jumpers and coats to fill the dip in the seat and was still uncomfortable. Staff were friendly and food was good. Sadly being seated close to the bar spoilt the ambiance as we had to listen to unpleasant customers moaning about having to wait a couple of minutes to be seated etc while the barman tried to explain how difficult it was with so few members of staff.
Food was good. Service from our Polish waiter was outstanding - he’s an asset to you 😊
Lovely little pub, food was delicious (beef pie), will definitely be stopping again!
Great menu choices. Food excellent Staff great. A beautiful setting.
Lovely menu, good quality food. Very good service - delay with one drinks order, but other than that, excellent.
New conservatory area gives a lovely view and atmosphere. Only downside is that it's all hard surfaces so the noise level gets a bit ear-piercing at times, particularly with young children around!
Would definitely return.
Service could have been more attentive. No coffee offered, had to go inside to ask for the bill.
Lovely food but unfortunately it took a long time. For a Sunday lunch for 2 people it took 2 hours. I think more staff are needed.
If you are looking to sit down have your order taken and be served food within a reasonable time then this may not be your best choice of pub. Staff very friendly and helpful, good beer good food but service from the kitchen painfully slow. This place would be really pleasant if they got a bit more organised.
The noise was problematic as my dad had a hearing impairment very loud and overwhelming it was like a mother and toddler group.
Food was good but vegan steak little over cooked but concept great.
Fish lovely but feel it may have been left standing for a while before served .
Great food, attentive staff and a beautiful location - perfect! Thank you
