   your open table had no communication with STOCKTON cross so the booking was not expected no provisions for allergies i.e. gluten intolerant. had to bring own bread

   Ate here in a Saturday night and booked a table as this is a popular pub. Welcomed and shown to our table. Drinks ordered and brought to us which is always a nice touch. Menu had a good range of food and prices were fair. Food was tasty and portions generous. Whitebait could have been crisper and pastry on steak pie looked very pale but tasted ok. We had starters and main courses and didn’t have room for the dessert choices. Overall a pleasant evening with just a few tweaks needed. Good place to visit.

   Sadly this dining experience was a big disappointment. I had been to this pub two times previously when it was first done up. Both times were good. The food was only a little better than ok - the pie was not a pie - it was dried out pastry with a filling that clearly had been ladened with bisto and or tasted like in was tinned stew. There were vile blue bottle flies everywhere and I kept having to get up and open the window to try and get rid of them. The decor was tiered and dirty - won't be going again.

   The proprietors had just lost their chef but managed to prepare and present value and quality pub grub, and were careful to ensure we were happy with our dinner. Good value, best of luck in finding a new chef.

    I dined there twice in a week, though only had a main course. The food both times was well cooked and presented using fresh and local ingredients as much as possible. The ambiance was good, some people at the bar and quiet music, so a nice level of background sound. The building looked well maintained and clean with simple decor. And it has a carpark and garden.

    Booked for Mother’s Day via Open Table. Phone call on the way telling me they don’t have a chef, aren’t open for food and that thy are no longer using Open Table. Atrocious situation and communication. I was quite sympathetic until I looked st reviews and saw that this has been happening since last September. I won’t be using Open Table again

    Sadly we could not have dinner here as the pub currently has no chef. Do not book through this app but ring the pub. The bar man was very apologetic and explained that Open Table has been asked to stop allowing bookings. Hopefully a chef will be in place soon as previous visits have been very good.

    Don't go there they don't do food ! They are taking bookings and can't be bothered to call to let you know that they don't have a chef so can't feed you. We were meeting friends there and other would be diners and were informed upon arrival the kitchen is closed. Not good.

    We had looked at the menu previously online and decided the food looked great . When we arrived a different menu was presented. This should have been updated online. It was expensive and hardly anything on the plate ! We were looking forward to a hearty meal but were disappointed. The staff were friendly but overall I wouldn’t be visiting again

    Visited for a booked meal at 7pm and was very surprised to find ourselves the only customers! This was such a shame as we had a superb meal with very friendly and professional service. The chef certainly knows his stuff, with fabulous flavour combinations and top quality ingredients. The beef we had was melt in the mouth tender and very flavourful. Staff were meticulous about COVID rules and we had no concerns whatsoever in that regard. Such a pity that when so much effort is put into running this pub/restaurant they are not being supported through these very difficult times for them, by customers through the doors.

    We had an excellent meal here that was only a few notches away from outstanding. Notable were the chicken liver and mushroom starters. Also the braised beef was fab! Nice also to get good complimentary sourdough. This is a place well worth seeking out!

    Outstanding meal for the four of us the beef in particular was probably the best we have ever eaten, the chef deserves Michelin star’s aplenty. We had a dog friendly table, the staff made a great fuss of her and we were away from anyone who may have been unhappy to share space with Belle whilst they were eating. The Argentinian Malbec “La Colonia” also need a big shout out as not only did it complement the beef you could probably drink it with any combination of food, brilliant.

    We had a 2 course special. Divine beef dripping with bread followed by our 2 courses. Parfait was light but rich with loads of flavour. Home made brioche too. Fish and chips with secret ingredient crushed peas and venison sausages in unctious gravy went down a treat. Great meal lovely atmosphere and service. Safe. Please visit and support everyone.

    The kitchen produced excellent food and service was charming. The pub was a little empty although friendly but I think we picked a quiet night -Saturday ? Unfortunately the log burner was out of action which probably would have enhanced the atmosphere but the landlord kindly increased the heating.

    A superb evening meal at this lovely country pub/restaurant. All staff were friendly, professional and ‘COVID aware’, and tables were well spaced out. There was fabulous complimentary sourdough with both butter And beef dripping to choose from. Two of us had different beef dishes and agreed that the beef was the most tender and flavoursome we had had for a very long time. The chef knows his stuff as all the ingredients melded wonderfully. Our guest had the fish dish and also felt that the flavours complimented each other superbly. Would definitely recommend the Stockton Cross and we will be returning!
