Good food but a bit pricey for pasta. I guess that’s just SF for you!
The service was very slow, waiting 55 minutes for our entrees. When it arrived, my wife’s food was cold. It usually is without these issues, but it needs to be noted.
The food was incredible. We had reservations do the wait time was about 5 minutes. What I didn’t like was we were placed in the back right across from the bathrooms!! There were plenty of other seats including the nice seat in the window Pretty upsetting that we were sent to the seat at the restroom. We moved ourselves to a close table.
Very cool place with good food. Love the garlic theme of the place. Good casual place to enjoy a meal.
This restaurant is just ok. It's popular for the novelty, I assume. It's loud and crowded and the food is mediocre. If you're nuts about garlic, then this might be more enthralling for you. It's in a very busy and energetic area and the overall experience is pretty good but if you're looking for a great meal, I think you can find a better option.
It starts okay and deteriorates from there. The hostess was helpful in accommodating out party of five. Nice cozy booth was offered. Bread was cold and felt like it had cellulose in it. Half a bottle of prosecco was way overpriced. Waiter was largely uninterested in our experience. Food was crappy at best. Prime rib was cold. Mashed potatoes were gummy. Appetizers were good though. The meatballs and the fondue. Everything else was incredibly subpar, including the garlic. As a garlic farmer myself I can tell you that the art of garlic is lost on this restaurant. It seems to be one variety of a fairly standard not so flavorful when cooked but stores well kind of of garlic. Save your money. The place next door looked good.
However, I should mention that the worlds longest garlic braid is hanging from the ceiling and worth checking out.
I have been here before a few times. this time I took a group that has never been here. what a great night we had. the food as usual was awesome and the everyone enjoyed themselves.
Great food came out fast and hot!
I know it’s an SF landmark but it’s really just ok. Wouldn’t go again and wouldn’t take guests who visit from out of town. Food is only so-so, wine list is unimpressive. Tiramisu was good! But otherwise, just kinda blah.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Would definitely come back.
Very enjoyable experience all-around
We have been coming to Stinking Rose for few years now when in the city. If you love Garlic this is your dream of garlic heaven come true. We come here specifically for the prime rib dinner. Exceptional flavor you will not be disappointed! Great wine list. The Trapiche Malbec pairs really well.
Came for dinner with my wife and her boss. Food was great, service was great, and so was the ambiance! Loved the garlis in everything.
Extremely Loud marginal dinner at best. The decor was fun but the food was very disappointing. The fettuccine pasta was rubbery and surprisingly the promised garlic seasoning in the shrimp pasta dish was missing. Most all menu items were significantly overpriced. Not recommended unless you are in a large high school group.
Food was very subpar especially for the price. Everything was bland and came out lukewarm. Was very disappointed since my in laws came here years ago and loved it and I love Garlic
I had high hopes for this restaurant, however the food was disappointing and merely run of the mill with lots of garlic.
Service was great, food was poor, buns served as focaccia, food was not very tasty .... almost like "hey, lets just throw garlic on anything, makes sense or no - totally doesn't matter"
Food was sooo much better 4 years ago .. not sure what changed since then ....
Service and food were good. Celebrated my sister’s birthday and
Simply put it, for 3 adults plus a 11 year old, no drinks no desserts and the bill was $253 including tips ... but really pedestrian like service ... oh well not for me !!!
Staff was great, food was amazing! Accommodated our party of 7 without a hitch.
Good food, great service. They gave a free dessert for our birthday occasion. Bread with the meal was unexceptional. Lasagna very good, although could have been hotter. Server gave us complimentary tastes of two wines before we decided to buy.
The food quality has gone down tremendously from our last visit! The ambiance was terrible as we were sardined into an uncomfortable table and the noise levels were off the charts. Very expensive meal at subpar quality. Avoid!
Fantastic food at reasonable prices for San Francisco. Be prepared for a lot of garlic but surprisingly not overpowering. Uniquely decorated as well.
What a great place to celebrate.
The service is excellent...the food is good. The best thing is the festive atmosphere.
Start with the bagna calda. Steak was phenomenal, probably didn't need to add the half crab (portions are large).
great experience. Exceptional food and Garlic Salsa was fantastic
Great food, but you have to love garlic. Fair prices with exceptional service.
Great place to eat with family and friends ....its the garlic so good. We had the chicken, the prime rib and the Rib eye. They were really attentive to our needs and in español 😀. Most def coming back with my familia.
Birthday date!! My partner and I meet fell in love and discovered were born on the same day month and year!! Crazy — so we wanted to go somewhere special for one of our celebrations!
Seating is very close, so a table for 8 can hold 8, but is comfortable for 6.
Service was really outstanding.
Food was delicious. Completely lives up to its reputation.
There was a horrible smell in the front of the restaurant.
The expectations were high and kinda disappointed. The food was ok, but not the garlic flavors expected.
Serve person was not available. Forgot to bring in utensils for the crab.
The Stinking Rose is a fun place to visit and have dinner. The environment is great. The food is pretty decent (pasta is very good), but expensive. The bread and pesto could be improved and the garlic is pretty strong.
Everything was great. I didn't even mention to the server we were there for a birthday and they came out and sang to us in a surprise. Great food and greats service
This was my 4th time there, every time I have visited SF I make it a point to go. That should be recommendation enough. Good food, great service, nice atmosphere. Our waiter went out of his way to get our dish altered a little bit to my wifes liking, thank you.
You wont regret it !!
The Stinking Rose is BEYOND delicious. The dinner options are amazing and you can’t go wrong with service!
Many tables are available for large parties. Prices are medium to fairly high for the environment. It was very loud when we were there. The short ribs were great. The prime rib was tasty, but had a lot of fat on it. The theme is always garlic here. There are a couple of great appetizers that are based on garlic. Overall, a good experience. We come here every couple of years.
My sis and I were alone for thanksgiving! Great little spot for us to relax and enjoy the holiday!
A very good restaurant. Great food !!! A very good place in San Francisco.
