The Stinking Rose Ratings and Reviews
Went here for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. We arrived 15min early for our reservation. The hostess sat is immediately at our table. The server took a little while before she came and took our order. The wait wasn't too bad. The food came out fairly quick. Everything we had was delicious. I had a braised bonless spare ribs and my boyfriend had the 40 clove garlic chicken. We also got the wild strawberry cheesecake, which was so good and not too rich. Overall I would love to come back.
I enjoyed the novelty aspect of the restaurant and our extremely accommodating waiter, but nothing we ordered really tasted fresh or made to order. The rolls they brought out tasted like they had been sitting on the counter for the last hour. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs, angel hair pasta that was extremely overbooked and soggy and same goes for the unseasoned crumbly meatballs. I tried to enjoy it but ended up sending it back, and the waiter was very understanding and didn't charge us.
We ordered the steak and asked for it medium rare, and it came out as medium well so it was dry. The crab was very dry as well. I think it was baked. Due to the dryness, when using the crackers the shell splintered a lot so we had to eat shell with our meat. However the mashed potatoes and Spinach were delicious! Drinks were not refilled with out asking a few times.
Our first visit to The Stinking Rose --- great food and service, for our lunch gathering of four. Our server Anita was excellent, and met our every need. Your recommendations were also spot on!! The Garlic Chicken was moist, juicy, and cooked just right. The Spicy Shrimp and pasta was cooked to perfection. The Vegetarian Lasagna was good, but could have used a little more sauce. The clams and black linguine was enjoyed by another member of our party. The tiramisu was shared by all of us for dessert. We would return for another visit.
My wife very much enjoyed her meal of garlic meatloaf and the garlic ice cream and my noodles and garlic was OK. I felt that the meals were very overpriced, so not a good value. Our waitress was very attentive and enjoyable. We did have a quite seating in a small upstairs room which we enjoyed.
Loved the gypsy atmosphere booth seating with striped curtains and chandelier! Fun time for friend’s birthday! Ambience better than taste. Grilled portobello was excellent. Focaccia was too much like regular bread. Service was slow and waitress was fairly inattentive.
Dined with a couple friends on a Saturday night. Even with the place being very crowded and incredibly busy, we were seated quickly (on time with our reservation) and served quickly and promptly throughout the entire meal. I would highly recommend the Garlic Roasted Baked Brie appetizer.
It’s a special occasion with friends at the Super Bowl weekend afternoon. Very pleasant dining experience as not that many guests in the afternoon hours. Prime Rib was awesome and the sizzling seafood plate was so delicious. The only thing to complain was no TV available to watch the Super Bowl!! Great dining experience!!
I am vegan and gluten-free and checked for options before we went. I was not looking forward to yet another Potabella, but to my delight it was delicious. One of the best Portabella dishes I've had. The rest of the group enjoyed their food and the wine was great! I would have liked to try the roasted garlic, but it was served in oil and I would have needed gluten-free bread. I appreciated the management responding to my email, which is not always the case. I live out of town (Davis, CA), but frequently travel to San Francisco and would go again.
The Crab was cold and covered in their Garlic sauce , but it just didn't have good flavor and was messy eating it, it was extremely expensive over $100 For 2 people and the other in our party just had Spaghetti and meatballs which had no flavor.. we had No Alchohol or Dessert and bill was over $100 For 2 people..
My friend and I went for the SF Restaurant Week lunch option, so much garlic, but we were so happy about that! The area in which we were seated was fairly quiet and the staff was very attentive. I'd go back in a heartbeat! (Isn't garlic supposed to be heart healthy?)
