The Stinking Rose
Terrible food... tourist trap
It’s was a great experience but the decor could definitely be revamped....Loved the theme as well
Pasta was good. Bread wasn't great. 4 out of 5 all around. Dessert was Tiramisu, it was grainy. Could have been better.
Always have a great meal here and never disappoints me! I will be back!
We went on a week night earliest booking, so it was good
The food was average. We ate their Crab, which didn't taste good. At the end of the meal both my g/f and I felt stomach sick. The atmosphere was alright, the issue was that our seat was super cold.
Would not go back nor recommend.
I visited the Stinking Rose after a recommendation from a coworker. I am not from San Francisco and am only in town for work. I ordered the garlic prime rib and my friend ordered the spaghetti and garlic meat balls. The prime rib was good; the garlic flavor wasn’t over powering and all around flavor was there. If I could have a do-over, I’d get the same thing my friend did. His spaghetti and meatballs was better than the prime rib.
The service here is what killed this experience for us. Our server came and asked us what we wanted to drink. My friend doesn’t drink alcohol and ordered a soda, the. The server turned to me and in a condescending manner asked if I was sticking with water. I had not finished reading the drink menu so I said yes and he just turned and walked away. I did later order a Pinot noir to go with my prime rib. When the server returned with the soda and asked if we were ready to order, I informed him this was our first time and we were from out of town, and what he suggested between mussels, prime rib and the spaghetti. He just said “prime rib” and that was it. No explanation of the dishes, no providing of options or other suggestions of maybe something I missed on the menu that is delicious. We placed our order, he walked away and our food came VERY fast, maybe 6-8 minutes later. We were impressed with that. Dinner was ate, desert cards were thrown on the table and that was the end of our interaction with our server. I hope this was just a one-off situation, but it really killed our experience here for how much we spent.
I want to personally apologize for the lack of service you received @The Stinking Rose Sunday night. By no means is that reflective of what our service standards are all about. We pride ourselves in giving quick, courteous, friendly and helpful service to all our valued guests. It would appear that last night you did not receive what we train all our servers to deliver. Again my apologies for one of my staff members who failed to deliver. Peter Demarest GM
Great food as always
The place is noisy, not a good place for a romantic date, more for a family or friends reunion. The food is good, the service is also good. I strongly recommend to do reservations, because it's busy. As all San Francisco, the price of the dishes is high considering is a casual place, it will be around $50 per person without drinks.
Came for for thanksgiving dinner, made reservations and was walked over to our table right away. The restaurant was super busy and lots of people waiting to be seated. We ordered clam pasta with soupa de pesque i know I’m that’s wrong but it is another name for cioppino. The food did not take long to come out and did not disappoint.
It’s always a good experience & the food is always hella good. One of my go to places in the city
Absolutely the best restaurant in SF. If you love garlic this is the only place to go. My go to place in SF to eat. Literally, I won't go to any other restaurants when I'm in the city. From their prime rib to their potato soup.. it's all wonderful. I took my family there for Thanksgiving this year, and they weren't disappointed. I talk about this establishment all the time. The service was warm, and attentive even with the holiday crowd. It can be on the pricey side, but I wouldn't let that deter me! You have to try it if you haven't already!
Everything was delicious and service was attentive and fast
The place was good and also the food
Was disappointed with the food. I can make a way better Bolognese. Pizza my daughter offered was awful crust. Liked the interior and service, but wouldnt return because obviously there is better pasta in north beach to be found. Bummer I had always wanted to try this place
We celebrated my daughters Sweet 16 at The Stinking Rose and we loved it. Our waiter was wonderful and made the evening very enjoyable we even made sure to share cake with him. Thank you for the great service every time we come it’s an enjoyable experience.
Wonderful dining experience
The food was delicious as always! Our waiter seemed to be preoccupied as we had to keep hunting him down for service. The management should work with their staff on checking id's for drinking. Will definitely go back!
The food was absolutely delicious! The rib eye is a must.
Served too much dishes at once made all specials getting cold. Otherwise, it is always great for SF seafoods!
Nothing stinks about this place amirite??!!
Perfect for garlic seekers. Great time.
You pay for the experience. The food is pretty average and so relatively overpriced. But you will enjoy yourselves simply for the novelty of it all.
The food in the experience is wonderful. This time out the service was noticeably slow. And I had to ask for more garlic sauce for my crab.
YES!!! Food was the best pasta ever! I'll be back for sure and would recommend to everyone.
Delish!!! If you have never had their creamed spinach, you are missing out
We was with the group, was some mistake with the orders plus I personally recieved cold pasta. Should be better with this high prices
Not impressed at all. This was our 1st time eating here and will not be back.
Perhaps it was an “off” night. We ordered prime rib and it was barely edible. The garlic appetizer was tasty but the rolls served were cold. At $49 for a prime rib, one would expect a better cut of meat.
The chicken entree with garlic was good but not exceptional.
I would not return.
Garlic rolls and lamb shank were luscious and memorable. Onion soup with pastry crust, unusual and worth ordering again. Margaritas, adequate. Garlic ice cream, a curiosity.
Great food! Fun atmosphere.
Two out of 3 steaks cooked improperly. Server didnt really connect with us as costumers.
We love the Stinking Rose. Make time for dinner there each time we're in San Francisco, which is every 6-8 years. It's a fun place and food is good.
This place was alright. The crab feast for 4 was okay. The crab is cooked in loads of butter which I don’t particularly care for. I also ordered the portabello mushroom dish. The veggies were over roasted and burnt. The server was nice however, he asked would you like anything else? We replied no, to which he responded okay because the kitchen is closed. For that reason I would say this was a 3 star experience. I probably would not return for a second dining.
The servings are significantly smaller and I felt robbed paying $29.99 for EACH of our meal granted they were delicious I just dont feel it was worth that much. The seafood I ordered though, felt like its been sitting in the warmer. Felt warm to the touch but it was dry. Ambience needed some update it just felt dirty and dusty. Our server was great and we were seated right away bec of the reservation. Gralic was amazing and the bread was magnifique!
Fun atmosphere and good food and service at reasonable prices!
We were in a party of 4 and everyone order something different from Caesar salad to Clams with squid ink pasta. Everything was great.
If you like garlic, this is the place to be. The food was amazing, the ambiance intriguing, and the service was wonderful.
One of our favorite restaurants, the food was great atmosphere was comfortable and lively. Want to go back as soon as possible
Amazing service from Z , yummy food, highly recommend loved the little tent sitting area, private and cosy
The Stinking Rose was amazing! Everyone in our group loves garlic so it was perfect for us. Peter was very accommodating for our group: Even though they were technically closed at the time we signed up for through OpenTable, he still honored our reservation. As for the food, a lot of members of our group got the lamb, which was fall-off-the-bone tender. I would also recommend the Garlic Soaking in a Hot Tub. Overall, would recommend this place to anyone who loves garlic!
