The Stinking Rose
Great food! Fun atmosphere.
Two out of 3 steaks cooked improperly. Server didnt really connect with us as costumers.
We love the Stinking Rose. Make time for dinner there each time we're in San Francisco, which is every 6-8 years. It's a fun place and food is good.
This place was alright. The crab feast for 4 was okay. The crab is cooked in loads of butter which I don’t particularly care for. I also ordered the portabello mushroom dish. The veggies were over roasted and burnt. The server was nice however, he asked would you like anything else? We replied no, to which he responded okay because the kitchen is closed. For that reason I would say this was a 3 star experience. I probably would not return for a second dining.
The servings are significantly smaller and I felt robbed paying $29.99 for EACH of our meal granted they were delicious I just dont feel it was worth that much. The seafood I ordered though, felt like its been sitting in the warmer. Felt warm to the touch but it was dry. Ambience needed some update it just felt dirty and dusty. Our server was great and we were seated right away bec of the reservation. Gralic was amazing and the bread was magnifique!
Fun atmosphere and good food and service at reasonable prices!
We were in a party of 4 and everyone order something different from Caesar salad to Clams with squid ink pasta. Everything was great.
If you like garlic, this is the place to be. The food was amazing, the ambiance intriguing, and the service was wonderful.
One of our favorite restaurants, the food was great atmosphere was comfortable and lively. Want to go back as soon as possible
Amazing service from Z , yummy food, highly recommend loved the little tent sitting area, private and cosy
The Stinking Rose was amazing! Everyone in our group loves garlic so it was perfect for us. Peter was very accommodating for our group: Even though they were technically closed at the time we signed up for through OpenTable, he still honored our reservation. As for the food, a lot of members of our group got the lamb, which was fall-off-the-bone tender. I would also recommend the Garlic Soaking in a Hot Tub. Overall, would recommend this place to anyone who loves garlic!
Excellent meal as usual. Fun atmosphere and great location. If you love garlic then this restaurant is perfect for you. 40 clove garlic chicken is my favorite.
My wife had the ribeye and I had the prime rib. Both were excellent!
Wonderful food - so glad we had a chance to visit! Had heard of it for years, one of my new favorites when I visit San Francisco!
Went here for a birthday dinner and ambiance is casual but fun. Restaurant decor is fun and lively. Service was great and provided a birthday song and free dessert. Recommend the 40 cloves of garlic chicken! Garlic sauce was delicious!
The day i walked into the stinking rose, i fell in awe. It was so amazingly decorated and fitting. I visited with my girlfriend, and we came on a date, we had been talking about this place for quite a while, and when it happened, we completed a Dream. The food was amazing and way beyond what we expected. Garlic overload, and it didn’t bother us one bit. The service was exceptional and everyone was so lovely and important to the experience. I know We will visit again sometime soon.
Excellent meal with great service!
It was a nice place for a birthday lunch.
Overall everything was good. except the waiter was rushing the whole time!! I love my prime rib. love the way they brought out the garlic hat for the birthday boy (that's really cute)
We have been wanting to eat at The Stinking Rose for years. We have eaten several times at one of their sister restaurants, The Dead Fish.
We were very pleased with the food, service and ambiance, and will definitively return one day for dinner again.
The idea that a restaurant that celebrates garlic is appealing however the tag line on the printed version of the menu should have served as a warning. It says something to the effect like garlic is the star and is dressed in food which is VERY ACCURATE. I expected the majority of the dishes to highlight garlic as an ingredient. Instead garlic is the center piece which in may opinion destroys the main components.
The all 80s playlist contained a lot of my personal favorites but was totally non-congruent with the restaurant setting. We liked the intimacy of the booth we were sat in despite feeling like a cramped alley. While we waited a very long time between visits from our server I couldn't help but notice the amount of dust that has accumulated on top of the cloth booth coverings. I silently wondered if this is how the front of the house looks I wonder what the back of house looks like. This was further reinforced after a stop in the restroom on the way out.
P.S. Do NOT indicate special occasion is birthday unless you would like to thoroughly embarrass your guest of honor with wearing a garlic hat warn by countless others and a Chili's restaurant style rendition of happy birthday being sung by the staff.
Awesome booth awesome food.
The Stinking Rose has been in SF for over 30 years because that was when I was last there. Quaint environment with private booths, not fancy just a relaxed eatery for garlic lovers
Only thing I did not like. There was no air conditioning. It was very warm inside.
The food and service was outstanding. Loved it
Nothing was outstanding in this restaurant.
The service and the food were OK, but not worth the price.
If you love garlic you'll love this place!
Food was amazing! However hostess was rude and the restaurant was noisy and hot 🥵
Our party of six enjoyed everything about our after theater dinner at The Stinking Rose.
Outstanding atmosphere and experience, excellent food and very good service. Any time again!
Unfortunately, for our 2 birthday celebrants, this occasion did not go well. we were sat upstairs where it was cold. a few of us mentioned that it was cold and the A/C was turned off but it didn't do much good since it was a window that did not fully close. we should have been re-seated!
The food was just 'ok'. Our pizza dough could have been cooked a bit longer.
Service was not great. we had to keep asking for refills and took a long time for anyone to come by and see if we needed anything.. and just to give us our check.
We had a cake yes, but they didn't ask us if we want tea/coffee/dessert after our meal.
Overall, disappointing especially for our first timers...
Uncomfortable seating. Overpriced mediocre food. Very limited wine selection.
The stinking rose stinks. Food tasted under cooked and waiters were not happy to be there.
Garlic is the star! Nice pasta and sea food. Cosy place.
They never fail... 40 Clove Garlic Chicken is Great, last March I had the Lamb that was great as well,
I always have to switch back to the Chicken. Waiter Angel, very attentive. I'll be back! Thank you!
This was one of the strangest dining experiences I've ever had. The hostesses were rude and unaccommodating. Our waiter rushed us through everything, including ordering. We ended up being there for 2.5 hours because everything too SO LONG. We had been there an hour before we got to order, then the food took another 30 minutes to come out. At the end, they asked if we wanted dessert and we declined, but then our waiter came by and just silently dropped the dessert menus anyway. Then he didn't come back for another 15 minutes.
This place is a tourist trap that relies of the Garlic theme, but makes no effort in any other areas. As locals, we will not be returning or sending any out of town guests here. I am embarrassed at how they are representing San Francisco to tourists.
It was great
Terrific ambiance. Much nostalgia. Food is very good, and not overly garliced!
Let’s start at the front door. When we walked in, the three staff members behind the counter didn’t greet us and we had to ask them about our reservations. They were just looking us up and down and conversing amongst themselves. Our waitress was incredible but I felt that this place did not live up to the hype. I eat garlic with almost every meal it’s such an amazing garnish and I was so excited to see it showcased. But stinking rose fell very short. I ordered the salmon to share, and my mother in law ordered the meatball spaghetti. The salmon was maybe a 3 oz cut and the acini pasta was unappetizingly slimy. The flavors were there but it was very salt forward with slight hints of garlic. There were also a couple of bones in the salmon and for being such a small portion I felt it was two too many. The meatballs in the spaghetti were the only saving grace. They were full of flavor and came in a decent portion but the spaghetti was lack luster and greasy. My wife was so excited to finally try this place for her birthday and we made the trip up from the oc, but we left never wanting to eat there again.
