The Stinking Rose
We had a great time. The service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. Thank you.
The Stinking Rose is a fun restaurant with a fun, lively vibe. Our server was excellent and the garlic boat appetizer was delicious.
Food was surprisingly good. Place is a bit campy but I enjoyed it.
Small menu food wasn’t all that great. I can get same quality food at a much lesser price than this else where.
Our Waiter was awesome. He gave great recommendations. Two of us had never been there before, one was a vegetarian and was delighted at the choices they had to choose from. We were celebrating a birthday and it was made very special by the wait staff. A wonderful dinner and we will be back.
Really good prime rib. The steamed clams were also delicious. Our whole crab was a little dry though.
Food and service was good but overall it was overpriced for what it was.
Nice place. Friendly staff. The food is good, must like garlic :-)
Food was delicious and we loved the ambiance! It was about $200 for an app, 4 drinks and 4 entrees
This was place was super awesome the food was delicious and the service was excellent . I will go definitely come back again soon
I had good memories of this place from many years ago, so I made a reservation while in SF on a short trip. While the ambiance is still great, the food just wasn't very good. The best way to describe it is bland and overpriced. The service, however, was just fine. With so many other great options nearby, I will definitely try a different stop for Italian food next time I'm in town.
No one ever asked for or took a beverage order only brought water to the table, ordered two entrees and an appetizer, was not happy with any of the three and it was very crowded. I will definitely not return!
The food is really quite bad.
Traditional, old style Italian restaurant vibe, in the heart of North Beach. Back dining area, across from bussing station is a great area for a date or party of four. It’s a little more private and the walls are covered in classic black and white photos of famous celebrities throughout the decades.
The food was great! I had the pork chop for the first time, it was amazing!
Our server was nice, but expected him to have better knowledge of the wines. Wine selection is minimal, so bring your own, since they don’t charge a corkage fee! Very cool.
It’s an older restaurant, but could benefit from a thorough dusting and cleaning of decor, walls and some fresh paint.
Overall a great dining experience would definitely recommend!
Loved it!!! If you love garlic, you must eat here! Not your typical tourist spot. Food is actually amazing!!!
We were on vacation and this place was recommended. It did not disappoint. Our table was ready on time - we had a reservation. Our waiter was friendly and gregarious. He was very informative on all the items on the menu. They offered items that didn't have too much garlic and they were very good. Those that wanted the garlic were also happy but surprised that the food wasn't overly garlic. Nobody complained - and that is the biggest compliment I can give knowing our group. We had a great time - good food, great service, enjoyable ambiance, and fair price. You can't ask for much more than that.
A couple recommend while we were visiting San Fran. A great win and we’re happy we are here. Wonderful food! Fun and happy staff! Win win!
My son is tall and couldn’t fit his legs under the table and had to straddle the table legs. My fish was dry and over cooked. The bread with the garlic oil dip was wrong. Should not be a soft sweet bun like it was. Just ok
A most stinky (meant loving garlicto the max) evening dinner....👍😎
Must go to for garlic lovers! So delicious!!! I was particularly impressed with the 40 clove chicken. Yum!
we went for Eric's birthday celebration and it was very nice that a group of servers came with cake and sang happy birthday but they said the wrong name (Steven)...was a bit awkward
If you love garlic, there is no other place to go.
Met friend on holiday, had been before 10 years
a lot of changes, not much of a menu, overall ok
A must try for garlic lovers if you're ever in San Francisco!
We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday with our young children. There was no children’s menu but this forced our children to expand their ideas on dining out which was a positive but if you have picky children this might not be the place for you. The food quality overall was good, nothing especially outstanding but my husband was pleased with his steak. I had the gnocchi and it was good. The food cane out do the kitchen fast and the server was very attentive. I enjoyed the decor and the restaurant is located in a fun area of the city. I think certain things were overpriced especially the desserts (my recommendation would be to go next door to The Baked Bear and get an amazing custom ice cream sandwich for dessert instead). Overall good and definitely one to check of the bucket list but unlikely I would go back again.
Always a treat! Love going to the Stinking Rose when we come to the city. This place never disappoints!
One of my favorite places to come when I am in San Francisco! It did not disappoint.
Took part in SF Week for lunch which is worthwhile compared to regular menu prices. It's a long-time SF tourist restaurant but us locals do go sometimes. Because we went for lunch, the place was rather empty, quiet and service was good. 3-course lunch was worthwhile; portions were generous and tasty. I had garlic chicken and friend ordered pasta. Both were good but we had to take home leftovers. I would recommend people here for the fun of it and only if you like garlic, of course!
The food at this restaurant was just so-so and it was really expensive - much more that we thought after doing a yelp search. The place has a nice ambiance. There are much better restaurants in North Beach!
Angel was the nicest most attentive waiter. We loved him! Ask for a booth. Fun, romantic and delicious.
Garlic dishes were exceptional! We went for dinner at 6:30 pm and it was not crowded.
The Stinking Rose is always our go-to place to get great Italian comfort food before heading to Beach Blanket Babylon. We had a table of 8 and the service was friendly and fast. All of our dishes were super tasty although higher priced than other comparable restaurants because it's in a touristy area. I've been coming here for years and have never had a complaint.
It was my mother’s 90th Birthday and she requested the Stinking Rose for her birthday lunch. The staff was very attentive, accommodative and pleasant. They took care of the Birthday cake that we had brought with us, presented and served it to us beautifully. My mother loved her experience and we all had a great time!
Always a pleasure to dine here. Great accommodations for special requests too!
Fun place and great food! They do not have a corkage fee either!
The Stinking Rose was fun and tasty. Our booth was private and the atmosphere was great. Food was garlic as promised.
They make it a fun experience if you're celebrating birthdays. Food was good and you can eat as much garlic as you want without feeling guilty about having garlic breath.
My bf and I went here for our first time and it is such a cute, romantic place. The menu doesn’t have a lot of options, and when my bf ordered a steak, they were out. The service was great, I just think for an Italian restaurant, the pasta wasn’t great at all.
unique garlic experience - always a fun time!
Very accommodating, from the front desk staff to our waiters. We arrived on a Friday night so I understood it got a little hectic and crowded. We ordered our drinks first and food second; Noticed we got our food first. Food and drinks were delicious, so we didn't mind. Will definitely return.
