This place is a joy. The food is fabulous in the country store typesetting is fun. The wait staff is cordial and friendly. I have been there at least a half a dozen times and never disappointed.
Incredible menu!! Incredibly friendly STAFF. Down in the ♥️ of Bourbon Country. A MUST when in the area. Phenomenal Lunch location !!!
My third visit to the Stave! We bring friends and family there every time we visit the Bourbon Trail! It is definitely one of our favorites! Great food!
An accidental find that turned out great! Small location with outside seating when the weather is nice - the food is quite good.
If you are in the area def stop by. The food was outstanding, and the waitstaff was great/super friendly. When I asked for some recommendations for after dinner places my waitress mentioned some places and then brought other people over to offer some more tips. Even asked me how I liked my ginger ale as it was the first time trying a local brand. Def worth the drive to get there. Also prob some of the best bread pudding i have ever had in my life.
Our favorite short-drive through the Bluegrass restaurant!! We always have a wonderful experience at The Stave; and the food is always delicious!
Celebrating husbands birthday.
Great hidden treasure! The pork shank over mashed sweet potatoes was amazing!
This restaurant is a hidden gem. Great food and drinks located very close to Woodford Reserve.
Good food - Good service - nice drink menu - the pimento cheese grit balls are the bomb.
Outstanding food and service. An amazing bourbon selection. A fun birthday dinner while on a bourbon trail weekend.
I always enjoy The Stave.
We sat out on the patio and could here the live music on the deck which was nice. I had the fish with cheese grits and was happy with my choice. Other people in my party got the burger and was a little disappointed. Service was quite slow. Our waiter forgot a drink and there were times when we didn’t see him. But, I would definitely go again.
The outdoor menu differs from the indoor menu but that is not mentioned on the website. The food was cold.
Recommended by a friend, great vibe, food was good. Will go back and try brunch.
We were seated right away on a busy Friday night. Love the space. Food was good but would have been much better if it were hot. We didn’t say anything to our server as she was working very hard but didn’t seem to have much help, we may try again some time.
On vacation, checking out the bourbon trail. Wonderful fresh food. Service was wonderful. I think we met every staff member, and they made us feel like family. Would recommend!
This was our second visit to The Stave. We love the quaintness of the restaurant and the ‘local’ menu and beverage selections.
Great stop in the way to Woodford Reserve Distillery. Chris was an amazing server. Great food.
Great food and service.
Water at the table tasted very funny...high mineral content??? Soup came to table COLD. Online menu was much different than menu in resturant...bait and switch??? Service was very slow. Noise was very high. Most of our dishes lacked any taste. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Long wait for food after a long wait for the table
Heard such great things about this restaurant. My Brussel sprout salad tasted like there was sand in it. Told by who I was with that the hamburgers were just ok.
Sorry to be so truthful!
I was excited to check out The Stave on our visit to KY to see friends many people won’t like it sliced thin the way I do. The cheese grits had a good flavor (I’m picky about my grits) but were a bit dry. I hate to say this about any place in the south but the biscuits were the worst, bland & very dry. That has to be fixed to survive. We did use the ham off them & condiments with both cornbread & crackers though & enjoyed all of that. I really hope they work out the kinks that often come with being newer because I think they have the potential to be amazing. We certainly need more restaurants along the bourbon trail & that take advantage of gorgeous natural surroundings the way they do. I look forward to trying them again next year to see how much has improved & I really hope KY supports them through those improvements.
We could not have found a better restaurant. The Stave has an incredible menu and awesome drink selection. We found it on Open Table and could not have asked for a better place to eat, drink and watch the Buckeyes game. Thank you to the Entire Staff for making this part of our trip so enjoyable and memorable.
This was a cool place to stop, waitress was very nice and helpful, but unfortunately the food was all cold and very, very dried out.
We loved our experience at The Stave and it’s becoming one of our favorite spots to dine! The service was excellent and the food was fabulous!
It was recommended by several people but we found the food to be average. The service was slow. We sat in the enclosed patio but the flies were terrible. When I reserved a table four 4 I was expecting to sit inside.
We really enjoyed the food here! The pig, pimento and pepper sandwich was outstanding! The paw paw pie was also delicious!!
The Stave is one of those places where you want one of everything. We couldn’t decide so we went with a slew of small plates that morphed into a massive meal. Definitely the most memorable was the delectable pimento cheese balls, but truly everything was great. If you have a group, I highly recommend the “build your biscuits” plate, which lets you sample a lot of the small plate highlights. Hot brown fries are also a decadent crowd pleaser. And the cocktails! It sounds crazy, but I highly recommend the Millville Marriage, which mixes Woodford Reserve bourbon and Castle & Key gin into a surprisingly delicious fruity cocktail. Be prepared to leave stuffed, but not before you’ve had a fun night at a place that would be a regular Friday night joint for us if we only lived closer.
Very disappointed in the food. Table of 4. Grits were cold, cornbread was burnt-had to ask to be replaced. The side of beans had a funky taste, decided not to eat them to be on the safe side. We had to constantly fan our plates to keep the flies off, and we were seated inside. Also had knats landing on my plate after I quit eating. We eat out a lot and this is unacceptable. Will not be back.
Quaint restaurant that had a good buzz. Band playing in the back of the premises which we could hear at a nice noise level as we were sitting outside out front. Staff were friendly but did forget a few things we asked for, it was busy. The first table we were taken to outside on the porch had a real funky smell so we opted for a table in the front garden area....we did get a few bites. Menu and drinks were good.
Great mid day stop or destination trip from Louisville. The black eye pea fritters need something more for flavor, and the cornbread was a little dry for me. With that out of the way, everything else was was delicious. We had deviled eggs, cucumber salad, hot brown fries and the squash pie, all was delicious.
Wonderful lunch spot minutes from Woodford Reserve and Castle and Key. So glad we found this place. Chris was a wonderful host. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and we especially enjoyed meeting “Chops”. All the food and cocktails were delicious and thoughtfully prepared. 115 bourbons to choose from. Killer fried chicken, banging deviled eggs, the “hot brown fries” are a must! Cool KY mural and great photo opp. on side of restaurant. Highly recommend that you stop here!!
The drinks were on point. The menu is limited and the food was average.
Stave's is a diamond in the country. We have eaten there twice in two weeks since we found it. Fun out the way place.
We enjoyed our outing, but had a few uninvited guests that kept our arms waving during the whole meal. Hope they can get a handle on the flies!
We enjoyed our visit to The Stave. We sat on the porch, which is mostly picnic tables. (I wished I had a cushion.) My husband and I shared the "Snack Board" which was yummy and very filling. Then my husband ordered the lamb brunswick stew and I ordered the burger. My husband liked the stew but wished it would have been more savory. My burger was good, but nothing special. I ordered it well done, and I should have ordered it medium-well. Our server was fantastic. Everyone was very nice.
A nice surprise at the end of a winding road. The small plates are huge! Blackened catfish with green and grits was outstanding!
Great little roadside stop with fantastic food. Portions are huge; didn't save enough room for the home-made blueberry pie. It's a tight fit, you'll know your dining neighbors. When they get full the wait staff gets stretched thin, so patience is key. The lamb stew was outstanding!
