My mum and I have always enjoyed an afternoon tea experience at the Station Hotel. The withdrawal of the toast is disappointing as it certainly added to the enjoyment. Our main courses were perfect - the chicken maryland being a favourite with us. The introduction of a chargrilled fresh pineapple slice was really nice. The cake selection was a bit of a let down though. The scones were smaller than usual and the middle tier consisted of 3 very small (but tasty) lemon drizzle cake slices, where usually there used to be millionaires shortbread slices too. 2 small cupcakes completed the top tier and they were tasty. Overall, still fantastic value but a wee bit disappointing.

Good value for money. Ambience was relaxing - venue was clean and quiet. We were served by a Filipina and an African lady and both were extremely nice and provided amazing service. Food wasn't exceptional but was at par with your typical cafe and definitely great value for just £10.99. I wasnt expecting mind blowing food for that price at all. I'd definitely go there again, it was a perfect place for meeting someone when you need a place to speak over coffee and food.

We had booked our evening meal as part of our dinner bed and breakfast stay. On arrival to restaurant we had to wait for 5 minutes before someone came to show us to our table. The restaurant was very quiet. The waitress looked like she didn't want to be there, never smiled once! Food was ok, chips were over cooked, the fish was nice. We had to ask more than once for sauce. We had finished our main course and the waitress walked past our table 3 times before clearing out table. I think there was only one other table in the restaurant so she wasn't busy!! On her phone right infront of our table instead of clearing our table!!

We ate here on the 12th March and found the food was good and very reasonably priced for High Tea. Unfortunately, the service was dreadful. Our waitress 'dumped' our food in front of us and walked off without asking if we needed any condiments or drinks. Tartar sauce was missing from one meal and we tried to catch her eye, but gave up before our meal got cold. The waitress then cleared another table and came over to ours with the dirty dishes, put them on our table and asked if we were finished with our plates. We found this pretty unacceptable. The waitress then came back with the cake stand and coffee, but left no plates or cutlery. We waited ten minutes to see if she was coming back but in the end we had to go looking for another team member to get the items we needed. He was very apologetic and helped us immediately. This waiter had been very kind and helpful when we had eaten there previously and is a credit to the hotel....unlike the waitress who let the team down badly.

I was a bit disappointed when eating here this time. I had the chicken Maryland and unfortunately the coating was very hard. At one point when I cut into it the piece jumped off the plate. The salad looked sad, the onion rings dry and frazzled and chips were OK. The scones and cream were good and cake and biscuits seemed bought from a shop and not made in hotel.

Having looked at the online menu for high tea, was disappointed that toast was not being offered. When I pointed out that the online menu clearly stated that toast was part of the high tea experience, the response was that management had been made aware that this needed to change. No toast was forthcoming though. There were 2 in our party and the cakes offered consisted of 3 small triangular millionaires shortbread and 3 small lemon drizzle slices as well as 2 warm scones. Whilst all of these were delicious, it seemed strange to provide 2 scones and 3 of each cakes. There was a good selection of main courses offered, the gammon steak did not come with shoestring fries (it came with normal chips) and there was no chunky tartare sauce served with the fish and chips. The food was lovely and it was good value for money although the menus should be updated to reflect what is actually being served.

The food was good, the service was good but not outstanding. Waitress was very quiet but still polite. It was very quiet to start with, until music went on it was a bit awkward trying to talk before hand. The brasserie was lovely inside and we would definitely go back.
