We ordered the deep dish Old Star pizza. The pizza was just okay. It was mostly crust and cooked tomatoes. There was very little cheese or pepperoni on the pizza.
Great deep dish pizzas and wonderful wait staff! I would definitely recommend this place to pizza fans!
Great pizza and great salads. Glad to have them in PDX
Delicious food, great happy hour! I definitely plan on returning to try more menu items. I loved the roasted cauliflower, the mixed green salad, and the spicy sausage thin crust pizza.
Great atmosphere. Pretty quick service considering the place was packed full(10-15 minutes). Very good waiter.
We had to wait quite a while after we ordered to get our pizzas but it was delicious and worth the wait. The small size comes with 6 small slices. We got two smalls for 3 people which was the right amount for us.
The Star is in a nice location with a cool ambiance. But the pizza is very mediocre and the cauliflower appetizer was not good. We were looking forward to trying their “famous” deep dish and it was a disappointment.
Reliable Chicago-ish deep dish pizza. Flavorful sauce and plentiful toppings. Definitely a go to for a more filling pizza experience.
Star had just made some management changes when we went-so a little funky on a few things. Mainly just out of most of their tap beers. But I have to say that they conveyed the message of a small hiccup very well. We had fantastic service (we ate at the bar). And the pizza was amazing! I don't know what it was, but the crust was delicious-crisp and flavorful with interesting toppings. The pesto chicken was my favorite and my husband liked the spicy sausage. We shared a wedge salad-and they even obliged us with cutting it!
I look forward to going again with the dust settles, but for sure give them a try! The space is wide open and pleasant!
Wonderful gathering place for family & friends. Pizza superb. Everyone at Star was friendly and genuine.
While not explicitly Chicago-style deep dish, the sausage and meatball pizza makes for the best approximation of Lou Malnati's you'll get on the West Coast. Quality ingredients, tasty sauce, and a generous helping of cheese. All served in a clean and quaint storefront in the Pearl.
The best deep dish pizza l have ever eaten. Highly recommend.
Good service. The service could be a bit quicker. The vegan gf pizzas could be a bit cheaper. 2 veggies for about 3 dollars feels like a rip-off especially since there’s not a whole lot of it on the pizza. Having a pineapple topping option would be ideal, and diff type of vegan cheeses. Although, I thank you:) it was still a good experience!
Reserved for 14 people for a birthday party. Had a couple no-shows on account of proximity to a family holiday, but the staff had no issues with it. Ordering and service was timely, but unobtrusive. Noise level was low to moderate. Food was very good and reasonably priced for the segment and location. Highly recommended for parties and events.
great experience, got 2 deep dish (I am from Chicago) and they both were really good along with the califlower, highly recommend!
Ordered one thin and one deep dish. Thin came out cold - like it had been sitting for 15 minutes. That’s a huge strike. Deep was cheese and sausage but the sausage wasn’t big chunks - which I was expecting like you’d get at Unos etc. Crust was good but could use another pinch of salt. Not sure if I will go back.
Deep dish Pizza just not as good as it used to be. The pizza is deep because of a huge cheese layer, with a thin layer of tomatoes—-used to be reversed. I was hoping last time we went it was an anomaly, but perhaps not. The pizza as it is now is a dealbreaker for us.
Also, server was waaaay too aggressive. Interrupted us constantly, reached across table right in front of our faces without an ‘excuse me’ or asking if he could clear dishes. Never once paused for a break in our conversation to do his work, just a bull in a china shop. We all were pretty peeved but his service.
Great deep-dish pizzas. Sleek, comfortable space in the Pearl.
The drinks were excellent and the pizza was delicious! I will definitely go back again and bring my date!
Family get together
Very consistent experience every time that we go. The deep dish pizza is really good, well worth a try. The service is also consistent and friendly.
I’ve been to The Star 4 times now, and have enjoyed each occasion. The deep dish pies are deliciously and not greasy at all. The gluten free thin crust is also great - I shared one of those once and even though I am not gluten free I’d happily eat another of those again. Vegan options are also available! Even though pizza is the star here, the salads and veggie side dishes should receive equal billing as they are surprisingly scrumptious!
Great new spot in the pearl, only place in Portland with good deep dish/Chicago style pizza. Cocktails also great, salads, appetizers, this place is here to stay!!!
The “to go” counter is located at the back of the bar portion of the restaurant, which makes no sense. Customers picking up their pizzas and the employee manning that counter are constantly walking through the tables where people are eating. This is too nice of a venue for that!
I often recommend this restaurant. The pizza is consistent and well made. The service is very good. The cocktails and wine list are also very good.
Really too loud during peak times, but the service was good and the food was terrific. The salads were fresh and interesting and the pizzas, both deep dish and thin crust, were top notch. We will be back.
Great place. We’ve been a few times now and it’s great with kids or or date night. Service last time was spot on.
Heard a lot of good things about The Star and it didn’t disappoint. The cheese on the pizza was advertisement-level gooeyness and delicious. Our server was great and would go back in a heartbeat!
Yummmmmm the pies are greats the service is great. The beverages are great. The space is great.
The location is great!
Excellent food but expensive for pizza. Noisy environment but that was normal for a pizza parlor
Wonder except for the noise-noise dampeners would be great.
Tried both the deep dish and the thin crust and they were fantastic. For a business setting the music was thumping too loudly to want to return but will come again with friends.
Being from Chicago, I wanted to try the deep dish here and was blown away. One of the things I don't love about Chicago Pizza is how dense the crust is because after 1 piece I'm full of all the bread. The deep dish crust here isn't as dense but has the perfect balance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Great pizza but not your traditional deep dish. The cocktail menu needs work it sadly doesn’t have something for everyone but there are other good drink options.
Excellent addition to the Portland Pizza scene.
The apps and salads are great too. But the “Star” of the show is the delicious deeps dish pizzas!
Food was good for the price. Waited 15 min. after being seated by the hostess befor getting water. You can tell they are a new restaurant, by the way they seemed unmanaged.
The food was exceptionally good but the server basically forgot about us; very little checking in, didn't offer refills, took forever to bring us the bill, and then didn't offer any help with splitting it. It was some of the worst service I've ever had, but the food was so good I'll likely to back anyway, so kudos for that!
Excited to try new. Pizza place. Pizza was excellent. Restaurant was very nice inside. While solid pizza , there are several places in PDX that are as good or better. The dining room here was much better than most pizza places though
We are from NJ now Oregonians.
Your pizza was just as good as the pizza in New Jersey.
