The Star Portland
I often recommend this restaurant. The pizza is consistent and well made. The service is very good. The cocktails and wine list are also very good.
Really too loud during peak times, but the service was good and the food was terrific. The salads were fresh and interesting and the pizzas, both deep dish and thin crust, were top notch. We will be back.
Great place. We’ve been a few times now and it’s great with kids or or date night. Service last time was spot on.
Heard a lot of good things about The Star and it didn’t disappoint. The cheese on the pizza was advertisement-level gooeyness and delicious. Our server was great and would go back in a heartbeat!
Yummmmmm the pies are greats the service is great. The beverages are great. The space is great.
The location is great!
Excellent food but expensive for pizza. Noisy environment but that was normal for a pizza parlor
Wonder except for the noise-noise dampeners would be great.
Tried both the deep dish and the thin crust and they were fantastic. For a business setting the music was thumping too loudly to want to return but will come again with friends.
Being from Chicago, I wanted to try the deep dish here and was blown away. One of the things I don't love about Chicago Pizza is how dense the crust is because after 1 piece I'm full of all the bread. The deep dish crust here isn't as dense but has the perfect balance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Great pizza but not your traditional deep dish. The cocktail menu needs work it sadly doesn’t have something for everyone but there are other good drink options.
Excellent addition to the Portland Pizza scene.
The apps and salads are great too. But the “Star” of the show is the delicious deeps dish pizzas!
Food was good for the price. Waited 15 min. after being seated by the hostess befor getting water. You can tell they are a new restaurant, by the way they seemed unmanaged.
The food was exceptionally good but the server basically forgot about us; very little checking in, didn't offer refills, took forever to bring us the bill, and then didn't offer any help with splitting it. It was some of the worst service I've ever had, but the food was so good I'll likely to back anyway, so kudos for that!
Excited to try new. Pizza place. Pizza was excellent. Restaurant was very nice inside. While solid pizza , there are several places in PDX that are as good or better. The dining room here was much better than most pizza places though
We are from NJ now Oregonians.
Your pizza was just as good as the pizza in New Jersey.
Everything was good. Service was great. We had an arugula salad which was good but could have been a little more flavorful. They didn’t have large pie dough by the time we got there around 8:15pm. We had a small spicy sausage pie and we enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t say it was all the way to 5 star quality. As I understand it, they only recently opened so it’ll probably get even better. I would recommend the place certainly. I can’t imagine someone dining there and having a bad experience with the food or service.
The pizza was really delicious! We got one deep dish and one thin crust and thought both were very high quality. The first thing we noticed about this place, though, was the NOISE. We couldn't hear anything the host, servers, or our friends were saying. Turn down the music and install some noise-absorbing material. I know it's a new place and therefore service will be a bit crazy. After being seated, no one came by for a drink order or to say hello for about 15 minutes. We ordered some beers and we could see that the beers were poured right away. Then we watched as the beers sat on the bar for another 15 minutes to be delivered. We watched this happen 3 more times as different members of our group ordered beers. The beers showed up to the table pretty warm. Overall, the pizza was awesome, but we are unlikely to return based on how loud the restaurant was and how slow and lacking the service was.
Delicious thin crust pizza - our new favorite!
Delicious food and cocktails and great waitress. Would happily go again!
We ordered a large deep dish pizza, custom. Three toppings. $34. Kind of expensive. We tried vegan cheese as I’m lactose intolerant. Dreadful pizza. They were nice and comped our drinks. Not sure I’d go again. I’ll stick with Montesacro across the street. A superior experience.
It was just mediocre. The service wasn’t great, we felt like we were unconvincing our wait staff. The food was okay, but not nearly as good as we were expecting from the Eatery site.
Took 45 minutes to get our initial drink order, and our server told us that “it happens sometimes”, not sure about the other waiters, but this one clearly shouldn’t be one. Rude and basically avoided our table after we asked about our drinks. By the time our drinks arrived, we had already finished our appetizers. Bottom line, great food, terrible service.
Fantastic food, drinks and service! We were a party of 7 and everything flowed beautifully all evening. Attentive service, great salads and pizza and delicious beer! We would all definitely go back!
Heard about The Star and was like “Oh yeah, another pizza place...so what?” Their pizza is legit! Crunchy cornmeal crust, savory toppings wrapped in gooey mozzarella, topped with a zesty tomato sauce that has just the right amount of spice. Hard to find Chicago style pizza in the NW and this stands up to the real thing. Our new favorite pizza place in Portland!
Very under staffed and lots of mistakes. Didn’t even get drinks for 40min. But everyone is very nice and still love location and atmosphere. Pizzas, even if wrong, were very tasty!
Getting a individual pizza and salad was a great deal. Excellent as well.
This is an excellent pizza addition to Portland. The thin crust is very good and the deep dish is worthy of any Chicago establishment. The service has been consistently very good as well.
Great pizza and service. Nice ambience. Would definitely eat there again.
I was disappointed in the pizza we ordered. They were not good at all.
Being from Illinois, closest pan pizza to the Chicagoland. Fresh ingredients is evident, but missing a key flavor; needs fennel (more fennel). Way better than another Chicago establishment here in PDX on the East Side, Star makes it fresh to order. Waiter and support staff were excellent—actually tipped more than 20%. Highly recommend it and you can order out!
We have already recommended The Star to a few friends. Salads were fresh and tasty. Quite happy that we can order both deep dish and thin crust. Wish you offered prosciutto.
Only complaint(s) was that it was cold. Our server was great. When asked about the cold air he closed the windows. Very difficult for four people to have a conversation.
We will return!
Son wanted deep dish pizza and lots of friends had been and said it was good deep dish. Well we had two piesbither were really great. Sauce is a little deeper and more savory than you would usually find in Chicago. It was all so good.
Great meal in a fun and energetic environment. Work team celebration was our reason for coming to The Star. Nice that they had both thin crust and deep dish pizzas, which were well-executed. Our service was outstanding - attentive without being over-bearing. Would definitely come back for a fun, group event again.
Primarily a pizza restaurant. Although the pizza options are many and pizza is good, still there are better pizzas in Portland.
It was my daughter’s birthday and we had a very nice dinner. We created our own pizza to share and it was delicious. Our waiter was really great! We got there early, so the noise level wasn’t bad at all, but it was getting much louder by the time we left. Overall it was a wonderful experience.
I was SO excited to see that The Star was moving to Portland - it was the one type of pizza that I craved that we didn't yet have. The cornmeal crust is amazing.... I also love that they take reservations, a huge plus and the only "good pizza place" in town that does!
Now if they could only add a Lambrusco to their wine-by-the-glass list....
Great pizza and appetizers! Does take time to cook but totally worth it!
The deep dish was delicious, and cooked perfectly. The thin crust pizza was soggy on the bottom. The kitchen has a little trouble taking specific directions. It was also loud, and took a long time. Suggestion: don't go during peak hours. Maybe lunch.
Pizza was delicious. One large deep dish feed four of is including 2 hungry teens. Music was a little too loud.
The food was good but overpriced & small portions and the drinks with weak, if we go back again we won’t waste the money on the drinks we will make sure we drink before or plan something after. The location is perfect, with in walking distance from our place and I loved the open airy feel inside and the service was 5 stars!
