The Standard Bistro & Larder
Service and food both were excellent. The room itself not particularly "romantic"- more barn like ( we were in the back room, rather than the main area where the bar and takeout foods are located. Wine list extensive, but prices on the high side. Would have liked few more American wines, especially Zinfandels which happens to be our favorite.
Wonderful farm to table experience with many entrees to choose from. Cured meats on premises were superb. Great fine dining addition to far western side of Ann Arbor - most welcome.
Some dishes were spectacular. Others were quite ordinary. Service was great! Will come back
for the weekend following valentines day, my boyfriend and i visited The Standard. We really enjoyed our time there. the food and drinks were delicious and our server was very helpful and friendly. we were welcomed as soon as we walked in and felt just as welcomed as we were leaving. we will definitely be back. Thank you so much
I enjoyed my oysters and the mussells very much. The chicken pappardelle was quite bland and the pappardelle had clumped a little bit. Couldn’t taste the ham in it. I think it could be a better dish if it was creamier rather than oily, with more seasoning. The chicken was nicely seasoned and tasty, just a little dry. The server was excellent. I would like it if the people other than the server who came by would introduce themselves when they ask how we are doing. Beautiful space. Overall I did have a good experience but probably would not come back anytime soon.
Great steak frites
Bar and bartenders were awesome- food was ok, not great, and the food prices were way too high for the quality.
This is our favorite restaurant. The wait staff are knowledgeable about the food and drinks. It is quiet and the atmosphere is lovely. One of the best in AA.
Valentine’s Day ❤️
A very enjoyable special dinner. Pricey, but appropriate for the level of quality and service. Our server was gracious and knowledgeable. Good wine list, a varied menu, and in each dish the flavors were fresh and nicely balanced. Some of the best creme brulee I've ever had. And the sound level low enough that we didn't have to strain to hold a conversation -- a very much appreciated rarity in this era of "lively spaces."
I love this place. It is perfect for dinner and in the winter it is perfect for a Sunday brunch. Our only problem this last time was the blowing cold air from the vents. Why would you want to freeze your guests on a wintery day?
Very good food with a French twist. The service was impeccable. Will definitely be coming back.
Ordered small plates and soup. Outstanding food. Lobster Bisque was amazing.
My wife and I had the steak frites - it was delicious. Good atmosphere. Service was excellent.
It was fine they took a very long time to seat us despite having reservations and being a little early. as for the food, the first plates far outrank the second plates and the service was ok - but the dessert was amazing!! Our server was better when he wasn’t too busy working the bar and waiting. The lemon lavender tart is a must!
GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH BOTH MANAGER AND SERVER....WILL GO BACK AGAIN FOR SURE!!
Cocktails, food, and service were excellent. We sat at a high top that was located a few feet across from the retail meat counter. Not the ambiance we were expecting. We would go back.
Good food, good menu, good drinks, great service, and you have the bonus of "The Larder", a small shop that sells heirloom meats and some sides. We come here for the provisions as often as we do to dine.
Very nice happy hour appetizers with a server who was attentive to make sure our order was in on time. Entrees were delicately seasoned. One was bass with the patron expecting Chilean Sea bass which has a totally different texture. Maybe servers could warn those ordering that this type of bass is a solid not flakey fish.
Excellent meal and service. A real plus is being able to pick up a fresh baguette on the way out, and some goodies for dinner.
The savory dishes we ordered were well prepared and delicious. However, the dessert, Tart Tatin was disappointing. Was really looking forward to nice caramelized apples complemented by the ice cream and caramel sauce. Unfortunately, the apples were not even close to being caramelized - and were just mushy and not even warm. The crust underneath was good. The ice cream and caramel sauce were the best part of the dish. My husband ordered the Pot de Creme. It was excellent - although the chocolate was a bit bitter to the taste.
Great food, service and ambience. Server Traci is great!!
Our server was fantastic. Their knowledge of the food and the wine list was vastly superior to most restaurants in A2. I had sole with brown butter sauce but the sauce seemed to be missing both from my plate and from the fish. I had carpaccio which was too salty possible due to the cheese or not washing the capers prior to use.
Overall a pleasant evening mostly due to our server.
The food was a complete disappointment. Shredded Kale just tasted like vinegar. Squash had
not even a hint of any kind of seasoning. But the biggest problem was the rib eye steak.
Only about 5/8 of an inch thick, the “pink” center was about 1/16 thick. The “eye” portion
of the strange shaped slab was about 4 ounces of meat. The only saving grace to the meal was
that the portions were small.
Booked this table over a month in advance. We were crammed in a corner making it difficult for the served to do her job and for us to get in and out to use the restroom. Some of the meals were not cooked per request. I expected better based on my previous visits which is why I had invited our friends to join us.
Tried this spot for the first time for last night’s dinner. Great experience! Good food and wine accompanied by excellent service in a pleasant setting. We’ll go again.
Hard to decide which is better, the food or the service.
The owner and manager both overhead us inquiring about brunch and proceeded to give us a card for free cronuts.
The meal was not rushed, but our server was always attentive and helpful with menu insights.
The yellowtail snapper was quite good, and the middle appetizer even better.
We skipped dessert this time due to restraint, but the pot of creme chocolate dessert is worth going there just for that.
In short, you really can’t go wrong with dining here, unless you just don’t like French food, but even then you’re bound to find something on the menu that you would like.
We loved our server and the environment however, the portion size versus the dollar value was not worth it. The steak plate had 5 small medallions and was 37 dollars. The chicken dish had absolutely no noodles and a small piece of chicken for 27 dollars.
Overall just an incredible time. Food was delicious and filling. Unpretentious but pleasing to the eye. Service was excellent and I still dream of the lavender tart.
The fish dishes were not outstanding - the sole was "mushy" and the bouilliabaise was over cooked. For the price, I would not give it another try.
Love the presentations and smaller portions!!! Perfect! Our server was delightful!
We were there for the Tunisian dinner. The appetiser was very good. The salad was way way over dressed. Seems like an upscale restaurant should know how to do that!!! For the main course, the lamb was good. But the fish was so so at best. But then, Standard Bistro fish dishes have always been so so at best and tend to be overcooked. For the chocolate desert, the bottom (nuts?) layer was good but you almost have to use a hammer to break it up. For a special dinner, an offer of expresso option at the end would be pleasant. Instead, the water downed "coffee" was not pleasant.
With all of Alex's previous association with Zing and also the name bistro, you would think they should know how to make baguette by now. But they have not improved on that since they opened. It's really a shame.
My sister and I took advantage of the steak frites two-for-one special. A great promotion and deal. The beef was well prepared, to temperature, with a tasty cognac-pepper sauce. The salt on the frites was a bit heavy handed. Jardiniere salad, with al dente vegetables in a vinaigrette dressing, was quite nice. The desserts we had weren't top notch. I had a lavender lemon tart, but it didn't seem fresh. The tart shell looked prefab, and was dense and sodden; the meringue was gummy, and the custard was muddled in its flavors. My sister's crème brulee was better, but the custard was eggy and not quite smooth in texture. The service was excellent and attentive. We will go again, but may skip dessert.
This was our first time at this restaurant and we loved it. They had continued the restaurant week menu so we had that. The food was excellent with reasonably sized portions and the choices were nice and varied. I had the sole meunière which was delicious. The restaurant is modern looking and clean with real tablecloths and flowers on the tables. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive and friendly and we will definitely be going back!
Great selections and the preparation of the food was excellent. The bartender Michael made me a special drink to my specifications and it was perfect!
Vegetarian entree served lukewarm, not hot, twice. They did replace my meal with a new entree to take home. Disappointed...
Food and service was great. So was atmosphere. My only complaint is the portions were pretty small for the price.
