The Standard Bistro & Larder
Excellence in all aspects of dining. Thank you Chef Alex and Tracy for making our evening extraordinary! Cheers.
Excellent overall, the carpaccio, the gravelax, the bouillabaisse, the ahi tuna and the desserts, everything was great along with the friendly attentive service. The chef's coming around at the table was also a nice touch. The booths are very comfortable.
Excellent! Had a taste of the crusted haddock in egg sauce - the fish melted in my mouth - I wished I had ordered it as my entree!
This was my first visit. Had an excellent business lunch meeting! The service and food were outstanding! Thank you!
WE THOUGHT THE RESTAURANT WAS VERY ATTRACTIVE, QUIET, AND THE SERVICE WAS ATTENTIVE AND EFFICIENT. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS. THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT FOR ALL 4 AND WE FELT WE WOULD ALL LIKE TO COME AGAIN.
This was a jazz brunch Saturday. There were 9 at our table and the service was excellent, attentive. The food was excellent as well. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and the prices were fair for the locally-sourced, high quality ingredients. Also recommend the mimosa, not your usual one.
I've eaten here 3 or 4 times since they opened a year or so ago. Each time, the service and the food have been better than the time before. They have clearly upped their game. Patty, the manager, is keeping tabs on the house, and our server, Tracy, was a delight and clearly knew the ins and outs of the menu. The cassoulet was very tasty, especially the generous pork & goose sausage in it. (You can buy the sausage at the meat counter to take home.) The lemon sole tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. At some restaurants, I can only find one or two items that appeal to me. Here, it's a surprisingly large menu, and there are many items I want to try (however, some items on the menu will change seasonally). I love the music selection (mostly classic jazz vocals). All-in-all, a delightful dinner. I recommend!
We love this restaurant! Our server was absolutely fantastic. Every time we come here our food is amazing. They have a great selection on their menu for food and cocktails. I love how they get a lot of their meat and food from local farms. Love the selection of meat, sausages, etc you can take home too.
Very cute and cozy. I usually go to savas for Sunday brunch but decided to try this instead and I’m glad we did it!
Our server, James, was great and we loved the food. The cocktails were delicious too!
I may not be the exact demographic Standard Bistro & Larder is targeting. I love to eat out and fine dining destinations when I can. But I do adjust my expectation based on price and ambiance. This is an expensive meal and the ambiance is classically elegant.
It's an à la carte menu where entrées are $30+ and soups/first plates are ~$9. Add some drinks in there and you're easily over $60/person. My expectation is there shouldn't be any misfires at that price point.
We had a party of 6--the only larger party in the restaurant that evening and were seated in the green room off to the side of the main dining room. Our server had our table and at least two others and couldn't easily access our table to clear and serve. The result was dirty dishes, glasses and silver started piling up. After the third course, we started making a stack of everything for her to easily remove between two spots that she could easily access. She came to our table two different times and still didn't clear dirty dishes while serving new courses. She needed to get a bus person in there to assist.
One other service tip--a restaurant with linens at this price point should be using table crumbers. It's a standard in fine dining establishments which this is. Maybe that was the nonexistent busperson's job.
The food was good and they're clear about letting you know it's not classic Parisian cuisine as opposed to Provençale-influenced dishes. I get the use of "preserved lemons", but it was overpowering in the Shrimp Beurre Blanc entrée and my sister's sea bass. My mom's sole was served lukewarm which they fixed and took off the bill--no harm no foul. Perhaps the ubiquitous use of preserved lemons is a disagreement on taste.
The 2-tops and 4-tops in the room didn't have the same issue with bussing. And the people who ordered beef entrées at my table loved them.
They were gracious in taking our feedback and removed 2 entrées from the bill, so good on them.
Great French food! Best in Michigan!
It was our first time at the restaurant. The waiter gave us a brief description of the restaurant. He was very attentive. The meal was excellent!!!
The restaurant was nice and quiet so you could easily hold a conversation.
Loved this place. My fourth visit (this time with my sister, who picked up the check--also nice). I think the menu for lunch could be a little more extensive, but I wholly enjoyed my food and the service was great. It's been great three of the four times I have been here. So, outstanding! Lovely cuisine, light-filled restaurant, a beautiful and yet comfortable place to dine for special occasions or just for good food.
Great wine selection and strong service.
great meal, great service and a very enjoyable experience.
The Standard was a revelation! What a lovely restaurant in an unlikely spot along the highway on the outskirts of Ann Arbor. The food was great and the service was congenial. Well worth the price!
some too rich
some too bland
need a mix
and flavors that re recognizable
will be back
The food was very tasty and used the ingredients well. The larder is the most interesting part of the restaurant with a variety of great products.
Our server, Bobby, was excellent. He was very professional and showed up at all the right times. The food was outstanding also. Our table had the porchetta, sole, salmon, and chicken entrees and all were top notch. The appetizer, duck confit carmelized onion crepe was a bit oniony - none of us could actually taste the duck, we only noticed the texture. The french onion soup was delicious though. The best of all was the hazelnut chocolate pate for dessert! It would have been nice if they had acknowledged the special event we were celebrating (a birthday), which they asked about on-line when I made reservations and I also mentioned when we arrived. Most fine restaurants offer some complimentary treat, which I was expecting especially since they asked about it when I made the reservation. Other than that it was a lovely evening.
Mandy was a terrific waitress. She was very attentive and she knew everything on the menu!! We loved the interior of the restaurant.
The very best food in all Ann Arbor
Food and service were excellent. Great ambiance. Lack of any Sonoma pinot noir on the wine menu highly disappointing; however, it is a French themed restaurant with a nice choice of wines. Food priced reasonably. Cassoulet and Salmon were great. Wine was great; however, overpriced as is most restaurant wine.
the food is just "meh", although it tries to be outstanding. The steak au poivre sauce was thin, rather than creamy and luxurious. The french fries were oversalted. Chicken fricasse, while tender was, in contrast to the french fries, under-seasoned and bland. The same was true for the mushroom pate. Presentation in plating is lacking, and it seemed that items were tossed carelessly on to the plate. For the price, this food does not rate, but most of the issues require only refinement to be fixed. On the plus side, however, the cocktails were outstanding, and expertly crafted. I would love for this place to succeed because it would be wonderful to have a Bistro in Ann Arbor. Please work on sauce and seasoning!
My whole family had a great dinner. Fabulous food and atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.
Food was very good and service was good. Staff was very interested in ensuring we enjoyed our meal. A member of party did not like the salad he had ordered. Nothing was wrong with it, he just did not enjoy the taste. Waiter was apologetic and the cost was taken off the bill. Will definitely come back, but not on a frequent basis.
Excellent food, nice setting. We enjoyed dinner a lot.
We've been there 2 times for dinner and 2 times for lunch and we drive from another county to go there. We love going to the Standard.
The restaurant interior is lovely - open, bright, simple, clean lines, spacious. The noise level is a welcome change from most restaurants- easy to have a conversation and non-Intrusive music.
I was there at lunch and had a simple vegetarian meal. The grains and vegetables were well cooked; there were no distinct flovors and the serving was fairly unattractive.
I’ll try again and have something that will more effectively test flavors and appearance.
Wonderful Early Dining 3 course dinner with wine tasting! Server was knowledgeable and helpful with menu choices. Very enjoyable experience.
So happy to celebrate our anniversary st the Standard. wonderfuk service yummy meal.
One reason that I want to keep coming back to the Standard is that there are generally 2 good vegetarian options. I love the wheat berry one! Also, the ice cream is delicious!
Food fabulous.......bought more at larder on way out!
It’s a real pleasure to dine here - wonderful food, soothing ambiance and intelligent service.
Service and food both were excellent. The room itself not particularly "romantic"- more barn like ( we were in the back room, rather than the main area where the bar and takeout foods are located. Wine list extensive, but prices on the high side. Would have liked few more American wines, especially Zinfandels which happens to be our favorite.
Wonderful farm to table experience with many entrees to choose from. Cured meats on premises were superb. Great fine dining addition to far western side of Ann Arbor - most welcome.
Some dishes were spectacular. Others were quite ordinary. Service was great! Will come back
for the weekend following valentines day, my boyfriend and i visited The Standard. We really enjoyed our time there. the food and drinks were delicious and our server was very helpful and friendly. we were welcomed as soon as we walked in and felt just as welcomed as we were leaving. we will definitely be back. Thank you so much
