Open Table made me a reservation in a restaurant that had closed its doors, gone out of business! Talked to a person on the premises who said that the restaurant hadn't used Open Table for couple of weeks.
I was looking for a new place to have a nice dinner than the chains my husband and I frequent.
I had to do a lot in convincing our party to try a new place. So I looked up the review on The Stand and thought how could I go wrong? Well I was wrong, it started almost as soon as when we were seated , they asked if we wanted a cocktail... (my husband loves craft beer and they claimed to have a good selection of craft beers) my husband ordered a beer of the list they gave us and the waitress said the list they gave us was old and recited only a few beers they had in replacement of the many they had on the list. We asked for Oysters for an appetizer (another reason we went there). She said they never got a shipment from their vendor so they were out. She also said, let me bring you up to speed, we are out of the Halibut the Salmon and the Trout! There were just 3 other selections left that were beef. They already had a limited selection of entrees and they eliminated three. It was late and would find it difficult to find another place and settled on starting with a drink and some appetizers they had. We waiting for the drinks a while. The waitress said they were making them. We order 2 draft craft beers and a glass of wine. Mean while the folks that came in after us at the next table , left when the waiter told them everything on the menu they did not have. When our 3 drinks came, the waitress reached over the table and poured my wine into a glass that splattered all over from the messy pour. That was it for my husband who told her to cancel the appetizers and asked for the check to settle up on the drinks we had. We saw no manager when we stopped the appetizers and asked for our bill. We did not hear an "I am sorry" or an " I hope this won't stop you in the future from trying us again". Nothing. I would not return or recommend this place. It is unfortunate because it looked great on paper.
Ran out of half the menu at 7:30. Slow service. Never will go back.
The food and service were excellent, however the restaurant seems to be having some issues. On a Friday night between7-9pm there were only four parties in the restaurant and a few people in the bar. There was no valet service as there was in the past. They were out of three of the eight entrees. There were only two desserts available. While the food quality was still very high, I would be hesitant to return with the limited menu.
Not happy with the fish whatsoever
The service was amazing, Brian was a great server and very attentive to our needs. The menu sounds basic but the chef has found a very unique way of combining different simple ingredients into a delicious meal. Would definitely recommend.
Food was fabulous, service was excellent, server was very accommodating. Great dining experience!
Great for a special occasion family get-together in the heart of Birmingham.
They really need to get valet parking for the winter( which they were telling people they would have for the winter). Parking across the street and walking through the snow is a pain. Follow that up with slow service on the drinks and it was a bit annoying.
The food was overall very good, some options were not available, which I understand as they had a large group before us dining with them, but as this group was long booked in with them according to the waitress, this should not happen for a certain number of meals. Some of which we have liked to go for.
The service was way below mediocre! The guy offering some water was speaking in such a low volume that none of us were able to understand what he was saying even after asking him to repeat it twice.
Silverware came later than the meals for both the main course and the desserts. The comment from the waitress was that she didn't expect our plates to be ready so soon?
When dirty plates were taken from the table after the starters, the also dirty silverware was put on the table and not taken by the waiter. We were all wondering why...
A few other service related issues happened and that will be the reason for all three of us to never go there again.
I had a great time at The Stand. The food was wonderful and so were the waitstaff. They were very kind and attentive. We even enjoyed the live music. My only complaint is that we ordered a cheese plate and it was quite expensive for only 4 small 1oz pieces of cheese. However the charcuterie board was fairly priced and delicious.
loved it! only issue was the music was a bit loud at the beginning if you wanted a quiet conversation over dinner.
Server not especially helpful and way overpriced for what you get.
Can't recommend because they are going out of business. We went for dinner and found that their menu was not the same as the one on their website and was greatly diminished. They didn't serve bread because they had none, nor were they able to serve coffee. There were only two other tables with customers in their big gorgeous dining room. It is obvious that they are going to have to close.
The food at the The Stand is all right, not special in any way. If there was a valet it would make me more likely to accept the all right food. The service was great. The music in the bar bleeds over into the dining area which is not desirable. Exceptional food is in short supply in Birmingham, so I guess they will do all right.
Loved the location and the ambiance, however the waitstaff was untrained and the food was under seasoned.
Fish tacos dry and did not have anything to put on them. Trout itself was very good but far too much of the sweet topping...fish didn't need it. Chopped salad and tomato bisque were excellent .
Food was good and vibrant bar. Dining room not as active but quality of the food was terrific. Hope it makes it since so good
Out of chosen wine and Tequila. Out of one of the main entrees and deserts. Coffee machine was broken too. Service very slow and it was odd because very few people in the restaurant. Expected a different experience.
Hadn't been there in a while. Had a wonderful trout dish. Will go back
If you haven't tried recently you owe it to yourself to try again. They have continued to refine this restaurant to where it really works in both atmosphere and cuisine.
Friday night and although we had a reservation, clearly we did not need one. That said, the shareables menu caught our attention and dining with friends, we ordered the mussels, the carrots, the brussel sprouts, the fish tacos and the crispy shrimp. The shrimp were our least favorite as they simply had little taste and no sauce or seasoning to speak of. The rest, we enjoyed. The roasted rainbow carrots were amazing! I could have eaten another whole order for just myself! One of us also ordered the beef short rib pasta dish and it was outstanding.
Drinks good, beer and wine selection sufficient.
The staff was dry friendly. Best hamburger I ever ate. Good Happy Hour. Would go again.
The food and service were excellent. Our server recommended a great bottle of wine, based on our stated tastes. She also had spot-on food recommendations. She was attentive without being overbearing.
Went to The Stand based on Open Table Reviews with a friend. The food, drink and service were very good. I think it is a good place for quiet dinner. Very nice decor, big glass windows. There was nothing wrong with the restaurant I just wanted something a little more lively for a girls night out. It could have just been the night (cold, damp night) because we stopped at another restaurant for a night cap and it was really quiet and empty too. Weird for a Friday night in Birmingham.
Good food. Service was slow. Several of the wines on the list were out of stock-surprising for a Saturday evening! Loved the charcuterie board!
I was amazed at the good food and the ambiance. The server was stellar. Good place for a date. My wife and I celebrated our 44th anniversary here and she loved it. I'm glad I found this place on Open Table.
Excellent menu, service, and experience. A go-to for dinners, lunches, and drinks with friends.
One of the best in Michigan and maybe the best in town; do you really want to eat good food? please go and taste; as french I can say it is the first time i eat food of such a good quality in Michigan. Prices are not too expensive too.
Brian our server was fabulous. Staff attentive, food served was delicious and modifications for dietary preferences were perfect. Recommend!
The food is very good, they charge too much for the drinks
We have been to The Stand several times and the food and the service are always top notch. The burgers are to die for. Looking forwards to returning in the near future!!!
The Stand is one of my restaurant faves! My family or friends try to visit weekly 💜
Good was excellent. Mussels in tomato sauce was great. My friend thought the filet was very good. Waiter was very helpful, brought wine samples for my friend so she found one she liked.
Prices were high, but worth the price. I would definitely return.
High end restaurant. Excellent service. Food was great. However very pricey, especially the wine. I like to get value for what I spend & in this respect it did not meet the mark.
It had been a long time since our last visit but we will be back very soon...it was outstanding.
We had a great meal (short ribs and pasta) and the service was good. The restaurant is very stylish and in a good location.
The food was ok, the service was fine. It didn't light my eager to return.
We love it there. Very special place. Outstanding food, quiet atmosphere, and wonderful staff.
