Chef Evan Campbell has created a seasonal menu with small and large plates featuring seafood, meats and duck, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.
Please note, as we are often fully seated, we can only hold a reservation for 15 minutes should you run late. Due to a high number of last minute cancelations, parties of 6 or more will require a credit card to hold the reservation on Friday and Saturday nights.

Always a pleasure to eat at The Stables. Great food and staff.
This is our new 'special occasion' place. Food is excellent. We had mussels and scallops as our apps. Game hen and duck as our entrees and the desserts were a peach tart and a chocolate s'mores mousse that was sooooo delicious. My only small downside this visit was we were in the entry dining room which is very loud. We will request seating in the other dining room from now on. The service is excellent. I definitely recommend!
I love the Stables!
Fantastic restaurant. Celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. Food and service was fantastic. The ribeye was amazing and super tender and perfectly cooked.
The food was wonderful and we had a private area which was perfect for a business meal
Took vcu college freshman daughter out for her first real meal since starting college a month ago. Stables so noisy it was almost impossible to have a conversation. We had to wait around a half hour before waitress took our order. Service was very slow. Food was ok. Will not be returning.
Evan Campbell, the chef, continues to impress, creatively reinventing the menu offerings each season.
The food was delicious, but they were out of many items. Some that were on the menu and some specials. Also, one person in our party did not receive their meal until everyone else was finished. There was no warning from the wait staff, just that they were trying to get the entree right. Our friend was not offered anything in the interim, salad appetizer and it did not seem as if the kitchen put her meal on priority. Her meal was taken off the bill, but we all felt that woefully inadequate.
The Stables is our favorite Museum District restaurant for drinks, dinner or brunch. They have a great bar, friendly and efficient staff, and a thoughtful, varied menu. We highly recommend The Stables for a date night or casual night out with friends.
The only reason everything wasn't 5 stars is just how noisy it is but the rest of it was perfect!!!!!
Great place, I may go too frequently...
great food, friendly service, diverse and interesting menu
Anniversary dinner- amazing!!!
Nice cozy atmosphere, excellent food, decent wine list
This was our first time at The Stables. We on occasion dined at the former restaurant, Zeus Café. From the moment we entered the restaurant until the end of the meal, everything was simply first rate. The welcoming and exceptional wait staff, the tasty and inventive cuisine, and the fine wine list. What A find in a neighborhood restaurant. Bravo to all and congratulations. Keep up the fine work. We look forward to many returns!
What a hidden gem! Food was awesome, mussels were delicious, wine was great. All plates at my table were sent back empty! Highly recommend! Service was spot on also- try the desserts- YUM!
Great service and great food! We went with a group of 6 people and had a private room in the back. The chef came and checked on us and we spoke for a bit. A great night!
Great experience! There wait staff was professional and fun. Our meals we amazing! The wine was perfect. I see why they are so highly regarded
Pretty disappointed; I’d been looking forward to this place for some time. Both cocktails we got were cloyingly sweet, and my wine was above-room-temp warm. Food was hit and miss: the shrimp and grits/biscuit was flavorful, the duck was well cooked and interesting enough. But the peach caprese salad had like three tiny (inconsistently cut) slivers of peach and huge slabs of tomato, so the peach (the whole “twist” on the dish) was totally lost. The mahi mahi entree was oddly flavorless, tasted like water. The whole place felt like a slightly fancy Jimmy John’s. Service was good, attentive and helpful, but I can’t recommend this place to anyone. Maybe they’ll get their feet under them.
Our bill was around $130 (two cocktails, two apps, two entrees, and a glass of wine).
A little loud for us, but they had put in sound reduction boards on the ceiling. Food was great and the wait staff was attentive and wonderful. Heather was perfect to help us with our first visit there.
Wonderful staff and service. Very knowledgeable about menu. Food was a delightful presentation and taste. Wine was a nice glass of and portion. Business dinner even with small place easily able to discuss and hear.
Wonderful casual dinner with two friends. We all had small plates and they were plenty and delicious. We shared the desserts. Yummy! Great service!! A little noisy during Happy Hour.
Amazing - get the lamb!
This was our second time here, after a first visit for Sunday Brunch. My husband loved the mussels appetizer. The peach caprese salad was very good, but I’ve had much better peaches from Wegmans in the last few weeks. All three of us had the duck breast entree—and it was the BEST preparation of duck I’ve had in a very long time! Perfectly cooked duck; loved the quinoa/chickpea accompaniment. Will definitely return! Nice to have so close by.
Very good, went for my wife’s birthday and we were not disappointed! 5 stars! Also had a very nice wine list!
Inside the restaurant was warm and smelly from the kitchen. Even if it’s a nice smell, it’s following you home in your hair and clothes.
Only 2 options for dessert, a bit poor.
Wonderful small plates and craft cocktails can be found at The Stables. We shared the coconut macaroon dessert and sighed over the delicious, moist cookies with their perfectly caramelized bottoms.
Went for Sunday brunch. Not crazy crowded like other Richmond spots, but the food was just as good as the trendier places. My kid loved the fruity pebbles french toast, and the menu had other kid-friendly options too. Overall a very good experience.
Recommended to me by two colleagues. This place delivered on excellent food and a good location, close to VMFA. Menu was fresh, tasty and creative. All four of us at our table made different food choices and each one of us was supremely pleased with our food. Would certainly eat there again. Only negative was noise level.
Very tasty! I ordered the mozzarella caprese salad and the chicken for my entree. The chicken was fabulous. The caprese salad was good but he peaches were not as juicy as I would have liked.
We arrived at busy time and had a waiter who was slammed and basically ignored us for the first 20 mins or so. After a complaint service got much more attentive, though not warm. Appetizers were crab cakes and peach salad, neither was a standout. The main (fish) and dessert (a take on apple pie) were delicious. Convivial atmosphere.
We had a really great time at the stables. The muscles were amazing and there were plenty of vegetarian/pescetarian options. I had the seafood stew and they were able to omit the sausage and my wife had the vegetarian pasta and both were delicious. All of the staff were extremely kind.
This is the second time I have been to The Stables. The food from appetizers to deserts was very well presented and the flavors matched very well. I have told friends about this restaurant. It has become one of my top 10 restaurants in Richmond. It is definitely a top contender with some of the best restaurants in Richmond. Keep up the great work "The Stables".
Really creative and exceptionally delicious food! We all left feeling very satisfied :)
Food was great, service was good. The only annoying thing was they had to move our table after we sat down. Other than that it was great.
It’s very cute from the outside. Inside is more cramped then I’d like. We were offered a high top table in the window. It’s setup to seem romantic but you can’t comfortably sit across from each other and high top tables take me out of the date night mode. We asked for a different table and were promptly given one. We ordered drinks, we weren’t asked if we had been before or asked if we wanted appetizers. Our server rushed to get our drinks and then we had to flag them down to put our apps and main course in. At $44 for a ribeye you’d be better off saving $10-$15 and going to can can or Morton’s for a better steak at that price. Food is ok, nothing you’ve never seen. I will say for value the charcuterie board at $20 stole the show. The chef came out and spoke to all the tables and that was great. He’d do well to get some servers in there doing him justice.
Really enjoyed the food and cocktails. The crab cakes and baked cauliflower were fantastic. The special of the night was their burger. A must have. Looking forward to next time
It was excellent. Four stars, not five.
Terrific menu with interesting vegetarian & seafood options, very personable staff, great experience!
Great evening date night! Really good food and drinks! Great service!
my date kept on munching the mussels and bread. lovely place, I will come back on a special occasion like this!
