Chef Evan Campbell has created a seasonal menu with small and large plates featuring seafood, meats and duck, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.
Please note, as we are often fully seated, we can only hold a reservation for 15 minutes should you run late. Due to a high number of last minute cancelations, parties of 6 or more will require a credit card to hold the reservation on Friday and Saturday nights.
Please contact us directly for large parties and to speak about our private dining and special event options.

The Stables never disappoints! From the moment you walk through the doors you are treated not only as the most important guest, but also as a friend. This visit we sat at the bar. We always enjoy seeing and experiencing the talent of the chef, bartenders, and sous chef! The love, time and talent given to each dish and drink reflects during the entire dining experience!! Many thanks to everyone at The Stables! We can’t wait to return!!
The Stables is a real gem in RVA. The Chef and the staff take great care to prepare excellent dishes and tasty drinks, and you can tell that they enjoy what they do. A meal at The Stables is an experience not to be missed.
Superb evening! The food and service were outstanding!
Normally I give The Stables 5’s across the board but this time there were a few chinks in the armor. We were on time for our reservation and were told our table was “almost ready” and that we should just wait at the bar. We didn’t order drinks since our table was “almost ready” but ended up waiting 15 min., all the while being jostled by servers going in and out of the kitchen. Once we were seated the service was fine. Most of the food was great, but 2 of us got cioppino and it was sub-par. The seafood was over cooked and the broth under-seasoned. Also the shrimp & griscuits small plate was just not great.
The service and food was outstanding. We received a personal greeting from the Executive Chef.
Delicious anniversary dinner
One of our favorite places to dine in Richmond. The food is always A+ and love the seasonal menu. The staff is superb!
First time here. The service and food was above anything I could have hoped for! I had the Ratatouille and it was delicious! The wine selections were great! Will definitely be going again.
I took my parents out for their anniversary; we had a fantastic time. The food was cooked to order, the staff was amazing, and unbeknownst to us, we were brought complimentary glasses of champagne to help celebrate the special day. It was an unforgettable experience.
Great food and good service, as always. Our server waited until everyone had finished eating before removing anyone's plate, which is a rare thing indeed, and which I very much appreciated. We did have to wait a good while at the end of the meal to get our check, which was silly because the restaurant had almost completely cleared out by the time we finished.
We love Stables. We have meat eaters and vegans.....and everyone is happy. The wait staff is GREAT! They know the food and are enthusiastic. Every time we come someone tries a new drink....and they are happy!
As usual, the food and service were great. A little loud and chilly, but we all enjoyed everything.
Excellent food and service as always.
Quite disappointed in main courses orders- red snapper was over cooked and tough, short ribs fatty- but beet risotto with pistachios was delicious and squash soup was excellent. Side of Brussels was very well cooked and tasty. Wine pour was a bit stingy and They charged $30 for a double bourbon! Too bad because server was very nice and professional. Not worth the high price.
Sunday Brunch. Food was fine. Waitress was very friendly and kind. Just nothing spectacular.
Loved the variety on the menu
Fantastic restaurant work an excellent menu and wonderful service. The food is always exquisite.
Great food and excellent service. We will definitely be back!
Sunday Brunch for our son’s Birthday. He and his wife had never dined at The Stables and were impressed with the brunch menu. My husband liked that his coffee cup was never empty! Well done.
Awesome experience overall and will definitely be back. Had the scallops and lamb appetizer and would recommend both. Drinks were great. Bartender and chef were friendly and helpful. Ambience is cozy and intimate but not stuffy.
Great little restaurant. Food was excellent but a bit pricey. Noise level made conversation difficult. Ironically, one of the waitresses was a big part of the noise problem.
The potion sizes are mediocre and the food wasn’t super interesting
We found this restaurant to be very pleasant and the food was good. It could have been cleaner, especially the restrooms and the menus. Coffee was excellent and the service was friendly as well as professional. The place has a good vibe, too. We were there for Sunday brunch, with some of the same menu items as dinner, and we thought it was comfortable for non-carnivores.
We were so looking forward to a wonderful meal only to be dissappointed. For starters the online menu was not in sync with the actual current menu and the fish listed was not available. The veal short ribs and bread pudding were both extremely overcooked and dry. The cutting knife barely sharp enough to cut thru the meat, add the chunks of fat thru out it simply did not make for a memorable dinner. The ravioli dish was overloaded with garlic which totally hid the roasted pumpkin. The bright spots were the duck pate mousse small plate, the cocktail of the evening and our waitress Heather who could not have been nicer. Agree with other reviews regarding the noise level, makes conversation challenging.
Great location near the VMFA! Nicely renovated urban space with character. Dinner menu offered an interesting mix of small plates and entrees, allowing a lot of flexibility in ordering to suit individual taste. Good wine selection by glass. Will definitely return!
The food was amazing. The server seemed a little too eager at certain steps like clearing out plates, but felt bad when told we weren't done. Great happy hour specials. Overall great choice for an evening out
Went for brunch - great service, food very good. Bloody Mary good but on the small side (and we've made the rounds in Richmond trying out Bloody Marys, so we have lots of comparisons!). Not crowded, liked the simplicity of the place. Our waitress was just the right mix of friendly, helpful and attentive.
This was our first time to eat at The Stables and we will definitely be back! We had a reservation but the table was being occupied longer than expected so we sat at the bar which was where all the action was since the open kitchen is right there too!
The staff were super friendly and accommodating and the food was great! We had the curry mussels and scallops appetizer and shared the ribeye entree.
They even treated us to a dessert since our original table took so long! It’s a definite go back! Many of the patrons at the bar were neighborhood locals that had nothing but great things to say! We are fans. 😊
Excellent! I thoroughly enjoyed the cioppino and my colleague raved about the duck.
Always a pleasure to eat at The Stables. Great food and staff.
This is our new 'special occasion' place. Food is excellent. We had mussels and scallops as our apps. Game hen and duck as our entrees and the desserts were a peach tart and a chocolate s'mores mousse that was sooooo delicious. My only small downside this visit was we were in the entry dining room which is very loud. We will request seating in the other dining room from now on. The service is excellent. I definitely recommend!
I love the Stables!
Fantastic restaurant. Celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. Food and service was fantastic. The ribeye was amazing and super tender and perfectly cooked.
The food was wonderful and we had a private area which was perfect for a business meal
Took vcu college freshman daughter out for her first real meal since starting college a month ago. Stables so noisy it was almost impossible to have a conversation. We had to wait around a half hour before waitress took our order. Service was very slow. Food was ok. Will not be returning.
Evan Campbell, the chef, continues to impress, creatively reinventing the menu offerings each season.
The food was delicious, but they were out of many items. Some that were on the menu and some specials. Also, one person in our party did not receive their meal until everyone else was finished. There was no warning from the wait staff, just that they were trying to get the entree right. Our friend was not offered anything in the interim, salad appetizer and it did not seem as if the kitchen put her meal on priority. Her meal was taken off the bill, but we all felt that woefully inadequate.
The Stables is our favorite Museum District restaurant for drinks, dinner or brunch. They have a great bar, friendly and efficient staff, and a thoughtful, varied menu. We highly recommend The Stables for a date night or casual night out with friends.
The only reason everything wasn't 5 stars is just how noisy it is but the rest of it was perfect!!!!!
Great place, I may go too frequently...
great food, friendly service, diverse and interesting menu
