Chef Evan Campbell has created a seasonal menu with small and large plates featuring seafood, meats and duck, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.
Please note, as we are often fully seated, we can only hold a reservation for 15 minutes should you run late. Due to a high number of last minute cancelations, parties of 6 or more will require a credit card to hold the reservation on Friday and Saturday nights.
Please contact us directly for large parties and to speak about our private dining and special event options.
Love this spot, great friendly staff, unique and delicious food.
We ordered chioppino and it was terrible. There was very little fish and seafood in it and the fish was totally over cooked. The pieces of salmon were so small ( like the size of small dice) and were dry as a bone, almost tasted reheated. The broth was not unpleasant but nor was it full of lots of taste either.
The execution was very poor and not worth the money.
The service was fine and ambiance was fine but if the food is bad those qualifiers don't count.
Will not return and will tell other not to go. If my husband and I weren't with another couple, I would have complained.
Interesting because when the other couple we were with mentioned the experience to their daughter, she also said the food was very poor when they another couple went and were sorry she didn't mention to her where they were going that night- would have told her not to go. Will tell others not to go.
Great food...deliciously prepared! The wait staff was incredibly engaging and knowledgeable about the menu. Service was prompt and just the right level of attentiveness .
This was our first visit and we had a wonderful meal. It was to celebrate both of our birthdays this week. We went early and it was quiet and we had to room to ourselves for most of the meal. The service was wonderful and I really appreciated the chef coming to the table, that doesn't happen much anymore in most restaurants. We will definitely return.
Stables is fast becoming my favorite restaurant. If you have been here you already know how great it is, if you haven't been here put it on your bucket list!
My first and only previous time here (about a year ago) was with business associates and I really liked the place. I finally took my wife here and our experience was not as good. The first negative was with drinks. For a place that seems to pride itself on craft cocktails, they can't even make an Irish Coffee correctly. All my wife got was a standard mug of coffee with an apparent shot of whiskey (assume Irish) and either normal cream or half-n-half already mixed in. Later in the meal she ordered a regular cup of coffee and when it was delivered by the waitress, that is when the waitress asked if she wanted any cream which required her to go back and fetch the cream. After hearing about and ordering the special (pork shoulder), the waitress came back to tell me it would be another 30 minutes before it was ready to serve so the chef recommended the smoked veal short ribs. I went with the recommendation but was disappointed as there just wasn't anything special about it to justify the $28 price. My wife did enjoy her ravioli however. Overall a pleasant meal but nothing outstanding.
Very fun place. Great food & a great way to try everything in the small plates
Have been for both brunch and dinner. Simply excellent. The menu is varied and service, exceptional. Can’t recommend more highly. For brunch, don’t skip the loaded Bloody Mary!
The Stables is always a welcoming restaurant. The staff and chef are friendly and helpful. This time I took friends who had never been there before and they were extremely impressed. Every dish we ordered was perfect and the wine selection is amazing. My favorite is the small plate of scallops, collard greens, and polenta cake. Yummy! Thank you for another fabulous meal. I'll be back...again and again and again.
Outstanding small restaurant. Excellent food - creative chef and great atmosphere. Overall the kind of feel you get from a local neighborhood gem that’s close to what you stumble across in cities like Paris or the villages of Italy. We love it.
This place was awesome. Food was incredible. Atmosphere was great.
The bathrooms were a little tight. Food was fantastic!
Delicious as always
Food very fresh, amazing cocktails.
My husband and I ate dinner on a Saturday evening with reservations. The restaurant was very busy but we were seated right away. The decor is very warm and the interior is actually bigger than it looks from the street. There are a couple of private dining rooms in addition to the general dining area. I ordered the beet salad which was delicious. I ordered the cioppino for my entree which was pretty good, but not great. My husband ordered the pork belly special and enjoyed it, but thought the serving size was on the small side. Our server was very attentive. Overall this is a very good option in Richmond that I would recommend to friends and family. Also there is limited parking in the back of the building which we took advantage of. Nice to have that availability in the fan.
Professional, friendly and relaxed service. Everything we ate was delicious and prepared exactly as described on the menu. Casual, warm and small, it was a bit loud at times.
This was my third time eating at The Stables and like the other times, it did not disappoint. The cocktails were inventive and refreshing. The charcuterie board held a variety of meats, cheeses, fruits and spreads, ample for 3-4 people. The pumpkin ravioli was savory and good. The cioppino, a type of seafood stew, was outstanding, filled with mussels, shrimp, scallops, monkfish and chorizo with an oversized grilled, sliced baguette to sop up all of the deliciousness of the buttery garlic broth. My out of town guests were wowed and can’t wait to return.
Great food and service!! Will definitely be back again!
The food, wine and service were great. Our table was located right next to the door on a cool night so each time it opened we got a little wake up. We’ll be back but will be sure to make a reservation and request a table away from the door.
Everything was fantastic!!! Our server Catherine was the Best!!!! Food outstanding, everything was perfect ! Can’t wait to go back!!
Great service, lovely atmosphere, and incredible food! The portions were perfect to enjoy an appetizer, entree, and split a dessert
This place is a hidden gem! What a creative menu when so many seem like the same thing over and over again these days. Really really appreciated the gluten free demarkations on the menu and my custom mocktail! Outstanding. My partner got the special - rabbit with homemade pasta and black garlic and mushrooms - incredible! Can't wait to go back!
Good food good mood
Had a great experience on Valentine’s Day. This was my second time dining at The Sables and it did not disappoint. Can’t wait to return. Love the lamb lollipops
Just celebrating us.
First time for brunch, but have been there many times for dinner. The brunch menu was outstanding and my food was too.
Fabulous brunch. The 6 of us had a small private room, perfect for gabbing. All dishes looked spectacular with taste to match. Wonderful service. Try the loaded Bloody Mary (bacon, shrimp, pickled okra...) for an amazing treat.
Excellent food and excellent service!!!! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Excellent! Every dish is delicious! Chef and staff are wonderful!
Delicious food, thoughtful staff. Highly recommended.
Everyone enjoyed their dinners. Waiter was very attentive. Never felt rushed even as the restaurant became crowded.
The food was excellent and due to the size of our party they put us in their private room which was super kind of them. It was an absolute blast and I look forward to joining them again for brunch.
Not a bad place but not up to the rating it has online.
Nice atmosphere but cramped. Friendly hosts greeted us and our table was ready when we arrived a few minutes early. The table for two was in a doorway leading to another room and was tucked in so tightly that you couldn’t pull the chair back comfortably from the table (which wasn’t level and rocked).
Very few “specials” that night and the food from the muni was just OK.
It was a pleasant night but not one I would necessarily repeat or suggest to others.
A great find, service, food, flavor, atmosphere all are extraordinary.
Good wine, good food, good service, and the bar and restaurant have a great ambiance.
We love that LA is there now, she is great!! Always one of our favorite restaurants and we love to suggest The Stables to our guests at The One Bed and Breakfast!
Best meal we’ve had in Richmond. Excellent food.
Awesome food and service.
A fun night. Waitress was great!!
