About The St. Regis Restaurant
Distinctive. Delightful. Designed by renowned architect David Rockwell, the restaurant highlights many of its original features, including the landmarked ceiling, and is set in a landscape of bold hues of black, silver, brown, cream and gold which intermingle with rich textures to create a lush, warm environment. The décor beautifully complements our cuisine, which features an eclectic blend of American cuisine with bold Spanish influences.

The St. Regis Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Totally forgot to do this review, so it's a bit delayed.
Delayed or not though the dining experience at Decanters stands out as still very memorable, and actually quite wonderful.
I went for the Chef's Tasting Menu, paired with the Sommelier's Wine Pairing. I deliberately did not look at the menu in advance, and upon seating I told the server 'Surprise me'.
They didn't disappoint. Every dish was perfectly prepared, and the wine-pairings that went with them were expertly chosen to match or beautifully contrast with the flavors of the food.
Excellent service from the floor team. Excellent wine pairings from the Sommelier. Excellent ambiance in the restaurant. Even though it was pouring rain from a thunderstorm outside, the quiet dining experience was simply sublime on all accounts.
Decanter has an attractive and quiet room for business lunches. The service is pleasant and discrete. The food, however, was not ideal on my first visit. I am not sure where the communication broke down, but my medium rare order arrived very well done. While they were very willing to replace the order, it was an awkward delay in the meal. I would have expected an apology for the inconvenience at the end of the meal but none was offered. Not sure if I will give it another try.
I started dining here regularly about one year ago and now it is one of my favorite spots for meeting friends and colleagues for lunch. The dining room is beautiful with a wonderfully decorated ceiling and spectacular windows that light the room in a way that keeps me coming back. The food is excellent and the service is attentive and 5 star level. Our server spent time with my friend helping her select the items for her charcuterie plate and shared his personal experience with the foods. The wine list is expansive with something for every taste. I highly recommend this location for lunch, but it is also a great selection for dinner or drinks.
I booked this reservation for our anniversary dinner. This is not your run-of -the mill DC dining experience. Entering the lobby, you know you are in an upscale establishment.
The staff at Decanter goes out of their way to make the experience perfect. There isn't a bad seat in the room. The atmosphere is quiet. It has just the right amount of ornateness.
This special occasion turned out to be home run. My wife was very pleased.
I often entertain for breakfast and can struggle to find a good spot that allows for great food and a quality einvrionment. Decantur was perfect. There's nothing on the menu that stands out or makes it extraordinary, but you can trust that the service is top notch. Do not get me wrong, the food is good. I just don't walk away from it with a desire to tell all my friends about my omelette. However, if you want a truly delicious cup of coffee, it's here. Top notch French press and fantastic. I will continue to entertain here for breakfast meetings.
Decanter's atmosphere was good. I have no complaints about that. I have stayed at the St. Regis and like the hotel. My family and I went to Decanter's for breakfast on Monday, April 6th. The day of the White House Easter Egg Roll. The place was busy but not filled with people. We had made a reservation days in advance because of the day. When we got there, we were seated with a minimal wait. However, after the waiter took our order, it took 45 minutes to get our food ! When I complained the manager just said we are busy. When I pointed out the the family who were seated ahead of us even though they did not have a reservation had been served, eaten their food and were leaving, the mamager said That's because they ordered before you. When the food arrive it was not great certainly for the price they were charging. I am going to think twice about going back there for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The chef's special Bronzino was one of the best I have eaten. Their award winning lemon soufflé with sorbet deserves the accolades! Very highly recommended for high end delicious food and dessert. Oh yes, they know how to make their cocktails- absolutely wonderful. They got it right!
Love walking into the St. Regis. Elegant, calm and so gorgeous. The white dining room is a bit more modern, lots of white comfortable leather chairs, large windows look onto Busy K Street, but you never hear a sound. Dinner was perfect; poached flounder w/ mushrooms, lamb three ways on couscous. Service was unobtrusive but very efficient. No room for dessert, unfortunately.
Will be returning soon.
Went to dinner to celebrate a birthday, and chose Decanter based on Open Table reviews. The reviews were spot on - this is a gorgeous restaurant, and the food was devine. I had the braised lamb dish which was delicious, and served with lamb sausages - just delicious. There were only one or two other tables filled in the dining room - where was everyone? This is beautiful setting, very elegant, and quiet - and it was great to be able to speak to each other and easily hear the conversation. Quite a notable - albeit quite expensive - wine list. A beautiful place; we'll be back- great for special occasions, feeling elegant, and hearing each other talk!
My entree (braised lamb) was superb as was the dessert (frozen lemon souffle). My only criticism -- and a very minor one in the scheme of things -- is that the restaurant does not have a simple salad unless requested and $13 for a plate of simple greens with a few tomatoes seems exorbitant. But it IS a reasonable price for the other fancy salads on the menu, some of which I've tried before, but not for my substitution. The service is both warm and professional, a rare but much appreciated combination.
We expected this place to be pretty and it was. But the food was fantastic! Every dish was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the wine recommendation perfect. We were just puzzled as to why it was more than half empty. Need to do better marketing maybe? We'll be back- it was great!
At a prime business lunch hour, our party was the only one in a gorgeous dining room with massively high detailed ceilings in one of Washington's premier hotels. So where was everyone? Probably somewhere else where food at these prices tastes good. The service was flawless, but let's face it, you go to a high end restaurant for the food and the food was very mediocre. The soup was bland - all cream with no roasted corn flavor. The turkey club sandwich was on toasted wonder bread and what tasted like pre-packaged turkey.
When this restaurant closes (and it will) another restaurant would be well-advised to steal the waiters, as they were near perfect.
My partner and I enjoyed another outstanding meal at the Decanter this past New Year’s Eve. Menu was pre fixed and was a wonderful array of tastes and ingredients. What I like best about Decanter is the chef gets the small things correct. Although, the plate may feature venison the accompanying items have just as much flavor as the main event. Sauces are done with expert precision and provide just the right amount of flavor as to not overwhelm the feature of the dish. Truly high marks once again from two foodies that often make an elegant meal the entertainment for the evening. The menu provided some suggested wines we chose a bottle for our table of four over a lovely Spanish 2006 wine. My recommendation is if the chef has suggested a wine, you go with that suggestion. That recommendation by the chef was not made without careful consideration.
While we dined here on Christmas evening tasting a pre-fixed dinner menu, we have little doubt their regular menu is nothing but spectacular as the menu items we experienced that night. The balance of spices and texture of each dish was marvelous, tantalizing your taste buds. We certainly didn't have a traditional Christmas dinner but this one will be one of the most memorable.
For the first time, three of us celebrated Thanksgiving at a restaurant. The experience was very pleasant. Food was wonderful; service was attentive and professional; atmosphere was elegant; noise level was quiet. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys exceptional food, wine and service.
Decanter has a very modern dining room tucked away behind a vibrant bar with a fireplace. I'm a sucker for the grand dame type hotels and St. Regis certainly is one of them. The uber modern decor belies the olde world menu with short notes by the chef paying homage to a relative for evoking the particular dish. The duck procietto was presented beautifully with a variety of condiments and a small basket of hearty country bread. Our dinner companions raved about the lamb shoulder while my rockfish special was fantastic. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak and all loved the ice creams. Would we return to Decanter? Definitely yes!
While the restaurant is quite lovely to look at, it is severely overpriced for the quality of food. I had brunch with friends and while it was tasty, it was nothing to write home about for a $20 eggs benedict. The more atrocious price crime was the sad tiny bottle of diet coke I was charged for $5. Coffee and tea was also $5. I had also gone Friday night for drinks - while a incredible wine/drink menu - again it's on the higher side ($15), so really special occasions only. The ambiance is much nicer in the evening.
I had the tasting menu. The elements were all pretty heavy-- a corn cream soup, a lamb with couscous, cake desert among others. The wine choices were all excellent, but I would have enjoyed some lighter fare for the $ 185. There was a loud and noisy group adjacent to the dining room; my waiter moved me to a quieter table. Service was excellent.
We celebrated my husband's birthday here and it was amazing. Food was outstanding, wine list was top-notch, and service was excellent. They suggested a wine we would have never even thought about and it was perfect. We loved the decor and though modern, it was quite lovely. We were there on a rainy Tuesday night, so the restaurant was quiet and not terribly busy. We will definitely visit again! Outstanding!!
Six of us took a friend there for lunch for her birthday and it could not have been more perfect. The food and wine were wonderful. The service was a bit lacking when it came to attention (we had to ask for water after our glasses sat empty for a while, as well as the check) and it took a while for our food to get to us. This was a little surprising as there were only three other people in the restaurant at any given point. I would go back; just make sure you have plenty of time.
My partner and I celebrated his birthday at Decanter this past week. We started with drinks in the newly remodeled St. Regis Bar. Drinks were on the pricy side I think $38 dollars with tip for two drinks but that was not unexpected and the drinks where well executed. We arrived early for our reservation but found no issue and were seated without delay. My lamb was spot on perfectly cooked and came pared with a spicy sausage which was great combination. Portions were proper and price was very reasonable. Staff was attentive but not intrusive and my water glass was always well filled. Dessert was a frozen lemon souffle. We were very pleased as we have been in the past with Decanter.
