We were visiting Bristol, and were really disappointed at the quality of the food and its cost. My starter of goats' cheese mousse appeared to be solid goats' cheese and quite unpalatable. There was no one else in the restaurant at all - we arrived at 7 and left around 8.30 and were on our own the whole time. It was far more expensive than its quality justified. We would have been better off at Cote, but wanted something a bit more unusual.

A delicious Sunday lunch in the garden area proved to be most enjoyable. Good food, well presented and with exceptionally efficient and friendly service. Would definitely recommend.

Went to the Square for a post graduation lunch. Was very welcoming and graduates were given a free glass of champagne which was a nice touch! The restaurant itself has a very nice feel to it and the menu had a good range of options. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our time there!

Service and general environment were lovely and the mocktails and desserts were delicious. Sunday lunch was great although as non-meat eaters I was disappointed that the roast potatoes came cooked in duck fat and no alternative was offered.

From the receptionist, who was clearly didn't want to be at work judging from the amount of attention she gave us on entry and the dismissive point towards the waiting area, to the 40 minute wait before getting acknowledged to even get a drink prior to being seated, the service was terrible from the off. Both of which might be understandable in a busy restaurant, however we were the first of 3 small tables all evening with a staffing of about 4 waiters... Once we were sat we then opted to go straight for mains as we had had a bad impression, so wanted to eat and move on. We then sat and ordered our meal. Admittedly there was a gluten free menu that had been altered which was kind, however the food then took an hour to arrive. The menu was reasonably limited, with a very small number of mains to choose from and even less starters, so putting the dishes together should of been easy. We then went for the puddings as it had now got quite late due to the various waiting we had done during the evening, so would no longer be moving on, to be greated with puddings that were not only very small, but had a distinct look af something bought in. All in all, it was a real shame as there was no saving factors for the evening. What was worse is the 12.5% gratuity tip that is already on the bill and doesn't alter depended on your various discounts. If you had to make a good impression to someone I would advise anything from buying a bag of chips from your local chippy would be a better suited venue for atmosphere, service, food and value for money. I'm not saying it was terrible purely due to the staff being lazy on a quiet evening... But it was terrible. Infact, just opposite is a restaurant called 'The Botonist' which has a superb menu, great atmosphere and really friendly staff. Try that out.

Great meal with interesting and delicious courses - I had the Wild garlic soup with 62'egg, and prosciutto dust which I thoroughly enjoyed. My fiancée had the deep fried goats cheese with pickled beetroot carpaccio, garden peas and cider reduction which was beautifully presented. For the main I had the pressed and slow roast pork belly, crispy squid, globe artichoke, white polenta, crispy capers and wild aoli which was fantastic. My partner had the herb and Parmesan gnocchi, butternut fondant, Parmesan Tuileries, hazelnut beurre noisette, crispy sage which unfortunately she found a bit greasy and stodgy. For £35 for two starters, mains and two glasses of prosecco an absolute bargain.

My family and I came here for Mothers Day on Sunday having never been to this restaurant before. We were made to feel extremely welcome, the service was excellent, was a vast selection for the set menu (main reason we chose to come here) and food was delicious. We will all definitely return to The Square and would recommend it.

Very expensive and anything other than main element of main dish was an extra charged side dish. No other occupants other than us and 1 other person. The scallop dish contained no scallops and no discount was offered. Very good food however!
