Welcome to The Spread Eagle, a historic pub nestled in the heart of Chesterfield at 7 Beetwell Street (S40 1SH). Steeped in history and tradition, our Grade II listed building has been a landmark in Chesterfield for centuries, potentially dating back as far as 1479.

Once a coaching inn, providing respite for weary travelers and their horses, The Spread Eagle has evolved with the times while retaining its character and charm. Our beautiful late 18th or early 19th-century facade, complete with its distinctive arched carriageway, hints at the stories held within these walls.

Recently revitalized in 2025 under new ownership – the passionate team behind the renowned Galleon Restaurant – The Spread Eagle is excited to welcome you back. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was super fresh,hot and totally delicious. Loads of choice and really good value for money! Will definitely be eating there again!

Good food, friendly service and choice of drinks. It was very busy, but was managed well. There was a 50% offer on the Tapas which was very good value, and a great deal for a Monday night out. Wish more restaurants would have offers for early on in the week.

The Spread Eagle is a gem of place with the best outdoor area in Chesterfield, perfect for meeting friends or having a cosy meal and drink with a loved one. Go and check it out if you are in the area.

Great value for money for real homemade food. Staff we're kind and helpful, checking that everything was OK and if we needed anything. Best pie I've ever taseted. I can highly recommend it. I will definitely go when I'm in the area again.

This is a lovely place and the food was home cooked and delicious. I visited on ‘Pie Night’ and opted for steak & ale with triple cooked chips, peas and gravy. It was absolutely delicious and the best pie I’ve had in years. I’d booked to stayed the night there and the room was newly renovated, clean, fresh and comfortable. The shower was fab. Breakfast (full English) was delicious and again all freshly cooked. Top marks to the chef! A warm welcome and lovely staff too so I would definitely recommend.
