We had a waiter named shade that was the worst we’ve had in close to 100 experiences at the Southern. His general inability to communicate and arrogance was not enjoyable. I ordered the lamb and all the food associated with it was cold. my wife ordered the southern chicken and did not enjoy it. We have been there quite often and as one of our favorite Nashville restaurants, unfortunately this time it was our worst experience in five years.
The Southern is a great spot to have a meal prior to the Predators playing. We often stop in and eat here as the food is always good, prices is more than acceptable and the bar menu is outstanding.
One of the best features of this place is the service - they are always fun fast and knowledgeable. If your looking for some good home cooking I would highly recommend it.
My husband and I went to Southern on New Years Eve. There was a set menu with a great selection of dishes. The food was amazing , the steak was one of the best I have ever had! Service was friendly and prompt.
Outstanding all around. Great atmosphere and food...first rate
I was here once before an had a great experience. Second time around wasn’t as good. Our poor waiter was clearly over seated with his tables which wasn’t his fault. He was really nice and helpful. Food was good but I felt like it was just a messy situation. Booth was dirty when we were seated, my napkin was dirty, someone else was missing a fork from their roll up and when food came out they were handing us plates instead of putting them down for us. I don’t really care about that except when it’s supposed to be a nicer place and I feel like it’s being served cafeteria style and not even a “would you mind passing this over for me?” Just handed out for us to diatribe the food to who it’s for. Hard to explain. I wasn’t impressed this time around.
We ate there before a concert at the Schermerhorn. It was very busy. We were seated immediately. Geoff, our server, was attentive, helpful and was patient as our friends were stuck in traffic and running late. My husband’s pork chop and friend’s steak were huge and tender. Our salads were delicious. Overall, the food was wonderful as was the service. It was pretty loud while we were there, but it didn’t deter from our supper. We will happily return in the future.
LOVE THE SOUTHERN! We always make sure to visit when we're in town. This time we tried the nudie custom steak which was delicious but WHOA really expensive! 100 for one steak is pricey even for this New Yorker! Wish we were told by the butcher/chef. Still super delicious and we will be back!
Great place for a steak.Very efficient service.
The food was generally too salty and the baked oysters were small. The squash was not so dente. It was hard. I sent it back and it came right back the same way and cold.
I love the energetic atmosphere of this restaurant! The interior design of the main area is beautiful. The ceiling shaped as a compass rose is gorgeous. Valerie our waitress was so friendly and attentive. Food was amazing! Can’t wait to get back to Nashville, especially to The Southern!
I heard so many good things about The Southern from friends who visited Nashville. A bunch of us went in November from Boston on a little weekend trip and it was excellent. We plan on returning next fall! Service, ambiance, food, spectacular. Three of us has the pork chop and my husband got to pick out his own steak from the kitchen!
The tacos had 1 ounce of meat, ridiculous for what the price was for two and not have more than an ounce. Steak that was suppose to be med rare came out raw twice. It was a Thursday night, come on get your sh$t together. Had to wait for our table(made reservations) ok, but then 20 minutes go by and I asked front desk if we could order apps if it was going to be much longer, she said. We have been texting you , show her cell nada on it(we were standing in front of her the whole 20 minutes, had entered my cell wrong) it then it went down hill from there. Need more training
Excellent bar service, the food was the best we've had in Nashville, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxing at the same time. A great spot for oysters for sure!
We were visiting and several friends recommended this- the food was delicious!!
Awesome food and great service. We’ll be back next visit to Nashville!
Every time I have friends in Nashville I take them to the Southern or suggest that they go! It's a favorite place by all I know. Love the food, music, great staff, and the blood orange mimosas! Cheers
Love this place! We come here every trip and this time 2x. Food is delicious and service first rate!
Ribs are best in the city
always a favorite!
Young hip, fun place
Very underwhelming. Steak not worth $50 a plate. Sides are tiny. Service was awful.
Food not served hot.
Went for brunch- had the burger which was AMAZING and I'm not a big burger eater. I don't even really like bacon, but the jalapeño bacon was delicious paired with the pimento cheese- yum! And the sweet potato fries were delicious too. Steven was our waiter - he helped me choose the burger and it exceeded my expectations!
Made a pit stop driving from Atlanta back home to Louisville just to eat here. Worth it! Third visit. Incredible.
The atmosphere is really "Nashville" since we had live music. the down side of that is it was really loud and hard to have conversation at the table. The food was good, but it was pricey and a small portion. I had a bellini with brunch, and it was not good. This restaurant did not live up to the "hype" that preceded our dining experience.
Excellent. Best Gumbo and ribs I have ever had - and I have dined in many cities! Their gumbo even beat several Nola place I have been :)
One of the best restaurants in Nashville. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Excellent! We've dined here a few times (at different times of day/evening) and have always been pleased. The Belle' is my choice for a really good & tender beef filet. This is not a petit cut, so come hungry! It is served over a chive potato mash that is just perfect. The T-bones are HUGE and very flavorful. You just can't pick a wrong choice, it is all great. Husband is always very happy with the oyster selections. The horseradish is very good and very HOT, you have been warned! lol
Great food, great service. It's very loud in the main restaurant so you may want to request another room for a meeting or if you want to be able to hear others at your table.
We had a friend in town to go to Bridgestone for a concert. I got us a Table at the Southern and advised her that it was our favorite combination of food. location, service and general all-around-ness. We had a great time on a nice evening and her comment about the scallops that she ordered was "it was almost a religous experience". I had my usual fish and grits. Not QUITE religious but very good. We shared oysters at our table and they were (as always) outstanding.
Fabulous food and cocktails right in the downtown Nashville area . Great ambience and delicious oysters !
Fun bar atmosphere with delicious food!
Good food. Service was okay. It was really loud and we felt rushed. We had lots of people recommend The Southern and I would say we were slightly disappointed. It was not as wonderful as people had said it was for them.
We were there to celebrate our 4th anniversary and we had a great time! Our server, Adam, was fantastic!
Our waitress was very kind. She let us take our time ordering. I was with relatives I hadn’t seen in a long time. We were there for lunch on a cloudy day. We ordered her recommendation of the Sweet Beef and Potato Soup. It was a perfect meal with a southern wedge salad. Great food and atmosphere! We will be back!
My boyfriend and I had breakfast here and loved every bit of it. The food was delicious, the service was personable and informative, and the atmosphere was inviting! What an incredible bar and vibe. Overall, great experience and will definitely return on another trip to Nashville!
Food was fantastic, locally produced. Server was excellent
Our server was awesome!
Very noisy in center dining room. Food was excellent.
