We had a waiter named shade that was the worst we’ve had in close to 100 experiences at the Southern. His general inability to communicate and arrogance was not enjoyable. I ordered the lamb and all the food associated with it was cold. my wife ordered the southern chicken and did not enjoy it. We have been there quite often and as one of our favorite Nashville restaurants, unfortunately this time it was our worst experience in five years.

The Southern is a great spot to have a meal prior to the Predators playing. We often stop in and eat here as the food is always good, prices is more than acceptable and the bar menu is outstanding. One of the best features of this place is the service - they are always fun fast and knowledgeable. If your looking for some good home cooking I would highly recommend it.

My husband and I went to Southern on New Years Eve. There was a set menu with a great selection of dishes. The food was amazing , the steak was one of the best I have ever had! Service was friendly and prompt.

I was here once before an had a great experience. Second time around wasn’t as good. Our poor waiter was clearly over seated with his tables which wasn’t his fault. He was really nice and helpful. Food was good but I felt like it was just a messy situation. Booth was dirty when we were seated, my napkin was dirty, someone else was missing a fork from their roll up and when food came out they were handing us plates instead of putting them down for us. I don’t really care about that except when it’s supposed to be a nicer place and I feel like it’s being served cafeteria style and not even a “would you mind passing this over for me?” Just handed out for us to diatribe the food to who it’s for. Hard to explain. I wasn’t impressed this time around.

We ate there before a concert at the Schermerhorn. It was very busy. We were seated immediately. Geoff, our server, was attentive, helpful and was patient as our friends were stuck in traffic and running late. My husband’s pork chop and friend’s steak were huge and tender. Our salads were delicious. Overall, the food was wonderful as was the service. It was pretty loud while we were there, but it didn’t deter from our supper. We will happily return in the future.

LOVE THE SOUTHERN! We always make sure to visit when we're in town. This time we tried the nudie custom steak which was delicious but WHOA really expensive! 100 for one steak is pricey even for this New Yorker! Wish we were told by the butcher/chef. Still super delicious and we will be back!

The food was generally too salty and the baked oysters were small. The squash was not so dente. It was hard. I sent it back and it came right back the same way and cold.

I love the energetic atmosphere of this restaurant! The interior design of the main area is beautiful. The ceiling shaped as a compass rose is gorgeous. Valerie our waitress was so friendly and attentive. Food was amazing! Can’t wait to get back to Nashville, especially to The Southern!
