The Sole Proprietor Ratings and Reviews
Sole is a staple in Central MA. Food is always great. It is what Legal Seafood used to be years ago - fresh seafood, great preparation, great wine list etc.
Max is always a welcome face to see and does a great job. Everyone of the staff is friendly and attentive.
Just a great place.
We arrived early for our reservation, but were immediately seated, even though there were a number of parties waiting. The food was very good. The service and attention we received were outstanding.
The only negative to the Sole is it is a very noisy, crowded restaurant. The quality of the seafood, and the outstanding service more than makes up for that.
The Sole never disappoints. Baked stuffed sole was out of this world! Louder than usual, and CROWDED - which added an energy and vibe of everyone having a good time. Seated almost 20 minutes past our reservation, but all staff was smiling pleasant and attentive. Just a hopping night!
Another outstanding experience. Over the decades we have never been disappointed. Food was great and the service team of two staff was on top of their game from start to finish. We had a large party and everything was handled expertly. You just cannot go wrong here!
Private booth in the bar is cozy, even though a lot is going on around you. Wait staff don't rush you, are attentive and considerate. Seafood is excellent. I don't recommend the salads. I've had three different lunch salads there and all were a disappointment. Dinner entrees are pricey, but worth it if you can afford it.
First visit to The Sole Proprietor and we will certainly go back! We were seated immediately by a very friendly host. Menu included many interesting choices. Service was personable and efficient. Food presentation was excellent. The three fish dishes we ordered were all excellent. Portions are quite large. We were visiting with a close friend whom we had not seen in awhile and the Sole Proprietor was the perfect place to have a comfortable visit.
You can tell this is a popular restaurant because it was jam-packed. The service was exceptional the food was really good about the only downside for me is that I have hearing issues and the noise level was a little bit louder than I'm comfortable with but perfectly understandable for a popular restaurant on a Saturday night. We had dinner here before going to the Hanover Theatre, and it was part of an absolutely wonderful evening. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this restaurant to anyone.
Very disappointed!! We reserved a quiet booth area for 2 on 3/11/17 at 4:30 pm because we were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. Upon arrival at 4:30 pm, the check-in manager told us our booth was not quiet ready and he told us that another booth was available and it would be quiet as well. We trusted his judgement and sat in the area he recommended and we were so disappointed!! We were in the main dining area which was very loud and became very crowded quickly !!! It felt as if we were in a cafeteria style setting !! Our waitresses were busy and the service was very impersonal !! We were very disappointed with his recommendation and we felt as if we were just shuffled into a spot to get us out of his face!! We felt as if we were just another number with no consideration to our personal request !! Very disappointed !! Your check in manager needs to be more considerate to personal events that are being celebrated, he would not want to be treated that way !!!!!
I've been to the Sole, and their other "sister" restaurants, many times over the years and usually it is always a great meal and service. This time was not the best experience or food. We went for my dad's birthday since he loves seafood. The appetizers were decent, but the main dishes were sub-par. I had salmon that was just average, I honestly think I can make it better myself at home. My parents both had haddock and the presentation was horrible. There was zero color on the plate- white fish with barely toasted bread crumb topping, mashed potatoes and cauliflower....absolutely no garnish and it was also just okay. There are many places in the Worcester area that you could get a far better similar dinner for half the price. The food would have been one thing but the service was not good as well. For having 2 servers on a table you would expect to have fast service and for them to be more attentive than usual. They were slow to take our order, even our drink order...drinks came out very slow and they were not on top of following up when we were finished with our drinks to see if we would like another to try and make up for the lead time at the bar (considering we hadn't even gotten our apps yet, clearly we were going to be doing another round). After the apps and salads they didn't bring new silverware so I received my meal with nothing to eat with. Normally, I would not leave a review, and I am never the person to really complain since I know everyone has off nights, but for the price point this type of service and food will deter me from visiting the Sole again anytime in the near future, it will also have me think twice about any of their other restaurants as well.
I brought my boyfriend there for his birthday. Atmosphere was very warm, welcoming and inviting. Management was extremely accommodating to my need of birthday secrecy when I asked them to hide a cake there prior to my reservation time. Our server was attentive, professional and friendly. She even brought out the birthday cake at dessert time without being prompted and she provided a candle -- which I had forgotten to do. Smart girl, that server. The birthday luncheon was perfect; THANK YOU, SOLE PROPRIETOR!!
Having dined at the Sole many times in the past, this visit did not live up to past experiences. The service was slow and spotty, despite the late hour. The food was OK, but not spectacular. Our table was not acceptable and had to be moved, and the second table was less than perfect also, but we made the best of it. Some food arrived over-cooked, and another was under-cooked. We were not consuming alcohol, and could tell by the service, that that was a big deal....that was quite disappointing. The Sole is the Sole, high-end and usually excellent, but not this time.
It was restraunt week so it was very crouded but the room that we were seated in nice the other tables all had people that were there for a good meal and quite conversation. It was a great atmosphere for me to take my daughter out for her birthday. Our waitress was very friendly and informative. She came many times to make sure we were satisfied with everything. The food was excellent and service was also excellent. And most of all he other patrons in the room were all great no loud and obnoxious. It was a great experience. We went there last year also to celebrate and the room that we ate in had a table of three that was so loud that it was unbearable to stay there . The food is alway great and the service is also always very good. But because of that your always packed and sometime the clientele are just plain rude and just don't care how obnoxious they are. Not your fault that your a great restaurant just the customers. Lol
