The Society Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time coming to Society. The first time was mehhh. This time was just horrible. 3 of us had 1:15 reservations for brunch last Sunday. When we arrived we were seated and were told to head to the buffet. To our surprise, there was barely any food. And i mean barely. When we questioned this, we were told that the food was made fresh and so it came out in spurts. Well those spurts were few and far between. The chicken was over cooked and it was clear they needed to change the oil. Ordering an omelette took 20 minutes. And trying to get a server to order water, let alone a soda took flagging down several people, one who finally delivered. Not to mention we only had a 2 hour block of time before you’re outsted from your seat to accommodate the next reservation. So for a $30/person buffet + drinks and automatically added gratuity, i was a bit underwhelmed and overcharged. I don’t even remember what i ate because there was minimal to choose from. Neighboring tables and other people at the line complained of the same thing. Not a good look.
We went to Society as part of our weekend-long wedding anniversary celebration. The Curry Shrimp dinner and Calamari appetizer were OUTSTANDING; the salmon was good, and EVERYTHING was served hot. The waitress, however, was unfriendly, inattentive, and whenever she did decide to show up, cold as ice. She also lied, stating the restaurant did not have any to-go containers, which the hostess quickly retrieved from the kitchen. At least 40 minutes throughout our visit was lost, waiting on her to attend the table. Had to constantly flag down other staff members for this or that.
This was our first visit celebrating my birthday.
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation , waited for our guests to arrive and we were seated right away. The food was delicious, only complaint was the crab legs, they were very thin and hard to crack. Our waiter keep our glasses full and were very friendly. The price was very reasonable, food was hot, very good and they keep the food refilled.
Birthday dinner w/significant other. First visit; great. Carribean rolls are a 'must'. Nice atmosphere; not too crowded for a Saturday night reservation...Ramsey was excellent waitress; has had everything on menu - won"t steer you wrong. Nice strong drinks!!!! Will be returning, worth the 35 min drive. Bread pudding is a 5 out of 10, Cajun pasta is a 9, shrimp & grits is a 6
Terrible experience. Stood at the hostess stand for 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge our presence, were finally seated, sat at the table for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come acknowledge that we were even in the restaurant, we were ignored the entire time and we finally walked out. Servers were walking pst our table the whole time, and not once did anyone even say hello!! Terrible, would never recommend this place to anyone. We even had our $10 for a $25 coupon and decided to throw it away because we will never be back.
The food was just ok. I wasn't impressed. The service could have been much better. The waitress would disappear for long periods of time. My friends and I were there for Sunday brunch so we had bottomless mimosas. A few times we had to physically get up ourselves to refill our glasses. It took a while to get out check as well. They really need to improve their service!
Very nice find. Had not been here before, but came here on a Tuesday. A band was setting up. Ordered the jerk chicken which was very good. Had the fish and scallops which was excellent. Stayed for a while and the band was actually good. I liked this restaurant a lot and will definitely return.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience! Service from host stand to bartender to our server was top-knotch. They were very professional, attentive, and great customer service. Personable without being too friendly/overbearing. I generally have low expectations of buffet food so they definitely exceeded that. Didn't care for the mac n cheese but it is rare a restaurant makes one I do like. There were a couple other things I didn't care for - steamed shrimp texture was off and the bacon wasn't crispy enough for me. I also wish they had more dessert options. There were so many yummy items like the fried fish, grits, waffles, fried and jerk chicken, sausage, cabbage & greens, omlette station, salad - did I mention the syrup is kept warm? Mmmmmmm. Pretty much everything listed on the menu was available, which was nice. Also played some great reggae and R&B. Definitely give it a try! I know I will be back in the future. They have DJs and performances on the rooftop some evenings, as well.
My friends and I had a wonderful time gathering at The Society Lounge. Everyone had something different to eat but the consensus was the food was SUPERB!!!! Only issue was the music was way too loud in the lounge/dining area, it made it difficult to socialize (we had to scream to talk to each other). I don't believe the music in the dining area needs to be so loud as the space is small. The rooftop area was like cherry on top so loud music on that level is fine because it's more open and the music is less deafening. Also I think you should definitely enforce the no caps/jeans policy, just to keep it high-end/classy. All in all my girlfriends and I had a BLAST and we will definitely be returning. It's nice to have somewhere that's suitable for a more mature clientele that you can enjoy a great meal while listening to great music.
I planned a small gathering for my friends 50th birthday. The staff was very friendly and professional. They called me to make sure all my needs were met and even called back again to confirm my reservations after I changed it. She LOVED the place!!! We all loved the food and the live reggae music was awesome!! Definitely would visit here again!!! Next time I'll venture to the rooftop since I didn't get to this time.
The quality of the food and service was superlative. The waiters, waitresses and hosts were affable and attentive. The noise level got somewhat high at times which made conversation a challenge. It was a great dining experience overall and I plan to return many times!
We had an enjoyable time celebrating my husband's birthday. The hostess was awesome in accommodating us, the food was delicious and the music was great. The downsides were the music was loud to hear one another and it was very hot, especially once we started dancing. These are reasons for only 3 stars. If you plan to go, make reservations early and read their site for requesting tables and arriving on time.
I had friends visiting from Indiana and we decided to meet for dinner the evening of Friday 7/21. The couple wanted to have dinner in downtown Silver Spring, so I suggested Society Restaurant and Lounge. The total experience was extremely nice, the only issue I had was what the music was a little too loud and we seemed to be screaming at each other to talk. The hostess, waitstaff, food and service was very good. I would definitely visit again and recommend Society as a social spot to gather with friends.
For what ever reason service was bad Tuesday night. I have been here several times before and never experience this. Waiter brought check and we waited 20mins and he never came back so we went to front to pay. He finally showed up at front then had he nerve to added to his tip and I asked why he did and he said he just rounded up . I never asked him to do this especially since service was horrible
We went to brunch for a belated fathers day celebration. The service was excellent and they kept the mimosas coming. The lunch food was good but very spicy. The breakfast food was delicious especially the waffles. The noise level was high but you were able to have a conversation. We would come again.
I was a bit hesitant regarding the food because the reviews I read were very mixed, but there were four of us and we all enjoyed our meals immensely. Our waiter was charming and patient as were the other staff. We stayed at our table for nearly 3 hours and they never got impatient or tried to rush us. Even once another reservation was coming in, they just offered to reseat us somewhere else which was very nice. I would definitely recommend them for food, atmosphere and service. Oh, and the drink that I got was delicious and a good ratio of alcohol to mixer.
The food was good but the place is loud. The main dining area is too close to the bar. It feels more like a bar/club that serves food rather than an actual restaurant. The website gave me the impression that it was a classy restaurant place to have a fine diner. In reality it's a noisy place. I wouldn't go here for a family dinner. It's a place to take a date.
It was extremely loud in there for dinner time at 7pm. If you've ever experienced real Caribbean food, the food here will disappoint (at least the curry shrimp and jerk chicken). The drinks were good! I was extremely hungry so the food disappointment played royally into my bad experience.
The food was ok nothing special my boyfriend had the jerk chicken and I had the tilapia and scallops. The drinks were good and strong and they played oldies in the restaurant area while we dined. Upstairs they had a rooftop lounge where they offered hookah I would make reservations because when we went upstairs it was completely packed with no room to order anything at the bar or smoke hookah.
We were to celebrate my son's 15th birthday because he loves chicken and waffles. The meal was delicious. My mother has severe food allergies and they went VERY out of their way to ensure she had a very tasty meal that avoided her allergens. The wait staff were kind, thoughtful and attentive. The portions are quite big so bring an appetite. Terrific atmosphere with friendly staff and clientele with great food.
Would have had a better experience if our waiter was more attentive and personable. The food arrived lukewarm. However, the Caribbean Rolls were "da bomb". Ate on the rooftop which could have been cleaner and the chairs were very uncomfortable and not very steady.
At 6:00 pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was empty. The hostess insisted that we sit near the front door although there were other seats available. It was very cold. For a party of 5, we were seated at a table for a party of 4. The waitress informed me that there was at $20.00 cake fee for bringing my own cake to celebrate my birthday. The cake was brought out in the box it arrived in. We were given plastic forks and paper plates to serve the cake. I had to complain to the manager that the experience was not pleasing and I have experienced better cake service at this same restaurant at another time. The main entrees were bland. Again, I have experienced better food when the restaurant was crowded.
