Nice place with friendly staff. The Caribbean rolls are amazing. Finding parking was not amazing.
The music and service was on point. Great restaurant! 💯👌🏾
buffett style setting with multiple empty platters, very long wait lines, limited space
The service was exceptional; however, I didn’t enjoy my meal. I don’t plan on attending.
The food was delicious! It gets really crowded after 9 pm and can be a little loud but it's worth it. The owner could enhance the ambience by painting and getting more sturdy furniture. One lady had to swap a chair for one that was at my table because it was wobbly. If you aren't worried about ambience, it's a great spot.
The restaurant almost lost me as a patron before I even arrived, but I'm glad we went forward with the brunch reservation. I originally made a reservation online for 6, but later needed to add to the party. I called for two consecutive days directly to the restaurant without success. I finally called the day of the reservation and spoke with someone, who confirmed they could only accommodate seating for 8 (I needed 9), placed me on hold, then hung up on me. I called back continuously without success. Against my better judgement, we decided to go ahead and crossed our fingers we could work it out at the restaurant.
We finally arrive and the seating turned out to be small, but adequate for a party of 9. We were seated immediately, which was great. Unfortunately, the service was OKAY. The waitress was nice, but the waiting times just for initial drinks and refills were too long. Plus, the lag times for replacement buffet food and plates was slow. The highlight of the restaurant is definitely its food, which was delicious and authentic. A nice lively atmosphere and good ambiance. Everything went relatively well from there until the end when we had to pay. Before we were seated, I informed the wait staff the bill would be split 4 ways (according to families). We also pointed out who would be on what bill and provided reminders when the bills were requested. Despite this, it was still mass confusion and erroneous bills. Luckily mine wasn't one of them.
Overall, I'd give this place a solid B+. Despite the service limitations, I would go back again and give it another try. The food made up for the failings. I would recommend this restaurant to others.
Scallops and tilapia was delicious drinks are strong and music was great on a saturday
It was my first time coming to The Society Restaurant & Lounge. It was my birthday 02-02 and I enjoyed myself. Had a great meal and drinks, then had fun upstairs with good music. Will definitely come back again.
Awesome great service
We picked this place after looking at other reviews. It did not disappoint. When we entered we were promptly greeted and seated. Within a minute our waitress came. We place our order and the food came out in less than 15 minutes. There were a couple of things that we ordered that was not there. The waitress quickly fixed the issues. The waitress was very attentive to our needs. She was also very friendly and cheerful. The food was excellent!!!
Food was good -- less Caribbean and more causal American that expected from previous reviews. Room trended more towards being a bar rather than a restaurant, at least on a Saturday night.
This is my third time visiting Society and I was very disappointed. We stood and waited for plates and food for almost 1 hour. It is supposed to be a buffet, so the food should be available at all times. Also, upon our arrival, the hostess advised that they have been double booking tables on Open Table, so they gave us this little space for a party of 6. I hope the staff and management does better next time.
I had to call ahead and change the reservation time. The hostess who answered was very nice and accommodating. When we arrived, we were seated right away. The server was amazing and friendly. The DJ played 90s R&B and rap which I loved. It was a great time. We will return and recommend to others!
We had a great experience and our server, Ramsey, was the best hostess/waitress ever!
Had an excellent dinner before heading to the Kennedy Center for a show. The curry shrimp was outstanding! Thank you!
Service was good. I’ve only had two items on the menu so far and they were delicious, could have been hotter but it was delicious.
My friends and I came for brunch on a Sunday afternoon and had an enjoyable experience. I heard that they had a good brunch and Society certainly did not disappoint. I definitely recommend making reservations. Once we arrived we were quickly seated and we immediately went to the buffet. ALL of the food was delicious. The servers and staff are very friendly and attentive and since we did bottomless Mimosas and Bellini’s they made sure our glasses were always full. It is a buffet so come hungry and pace yourself to really get your money’s worth.
The food and service from our waiter was amazing. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and provided up with great tips on what to eat and drink. Overall, I deducted one start because of the front house staff was horrible. An older woman asked us to hurry up because she had another party waiting to be seated. We were well within our reservation window of two hours and did not finish paying yet. The waiter became frustrated with her and even took our drink order as we moved upstairs to the bar terrace. I took a picture and video of the woman and posted it to social media. I have very low tolerance of poor customer service, especially when I am spending my hard earned money.
This was my second time coming to Society. The first time was mehhh. This time was just horrible. 3 of us had 1:15 reservations for brunch last Sunday. When we arrived we were seated and were told to head to the buffet. To our surprise, there was barely any food. And i mean barely. When we questioned this, we were told that the food was made fresh and so it came out in spurts. Well those spurts were few and far between. The chicken was over cooked and it was clear they needed to change the oil. Ordering an omelette took 20 minutes. And trying to get a server to order water, let alone a soda took flagging down several people, one who finally delivered. Not to mention we only had a 2 hour block of time before you’re outsted from your seat to accommodate the next reservation. So for a $30/person buffet + drinks and automatically added gratuity, i was a bit underwhelmed and overcharged. I don’t even remember what i ate because there was minimal to choose from. Neighboring tables and other people at the line complained of the same thing. Not a good look.
Good food and friendly staff, but the 2 hour limit is a little off outing.
We went to Society as part of our weekend-long wedding anniversary celebration. The Curry Shrimp dinner and Calamari appetizer were OUTSTANDING; the salmon was good, and EVERYTHING was served hot. The waitress, however, was unfriendly, inattentive, and whenever she did decide to show up, cold as ice. She also lied, stating the restaurant did not have any to-go containers, which the hostess quickly retrieved from the kitchen. At least 40 minutes throughout our visit was lost, waiting on her to attend the table. Had to constantly flag down other staff members for this or that.
Amazing place ! Good food with moderate price . I especially recommend the calamari
Went for Sunday brunch and was not dissapointed. I visited the buffet twice, which was unusual for me. I still was not able to sample all the food on the menu. Everything was Delicious!!!!
Buffet style but not buffet quality. Food is freshly cooked and delicious. Bottomless drinks are delicious plentiful and replenished frequently.
This was our first visit celebrating my birthday.
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation , waited for our guests to arrive and we were seated right away. The food was delicious, only complaint was the crab legs, they were very thin and hard to crack. Our waiter keep our glasses full and were very friendly. The price was very reasonable, food was hot, very good and they keep the food refilled.
Birthday dinner w/significant other. First visit; great. Carribean rolls are a 'must'. Nice atmosphere; not too crowded for a Saturday night reservation...Ramsey was excellent waitress; has had everything on menu - won"t steer you wrong. Nice strong drinks!!!! Will be returning, worth the 35 min drive. Bread pudding is a 5 out of 10, Cajun pasta is a 9, shrimp & grits is a 6
The rum punch made everyone in our group sick.
The food was good as usual no problem with that.
Do not like the fact that a lot of money was spent celebrating birthdays and was told we had to leave our table due to 2 hour limit .
Good service from outside to the table. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Music was a good mix at an enjoyable volume.
Terrible experience. Stood at the hostess stand for 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge our presence, were finally seated, sat at the table for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come acknowledge that we were even in the restaurant, we were ignored the entire time and we finally walked out. Servers were walking pst our table the whole time, and not once did anyone even say hello!! Terrible, would never recommend this place to anyone. We even had our $10 for a $25 coupon and decided to throw it away because we will never be back.
The food was just ok. I wasn't impressed. The service could have been much better. The waitress would disappear for long periods of time. My friends and I were there for Sunday brunch so we had bottomless mimosas. A few times we had to physically get up ourselves to refill our glasses. It took a while to get out check as well. They really need to improve their service!
Very nice find. Had not been here before, but came here on a Tuesday. A band was setting up. Ordered the jerk chicken which was very good. Had the fish and scallops which was excellent. Stayed for a while and the band was actually good. I liked this restaurant a lot and will definitely return.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience! Service from host stand to bartender to our server was top-knotch. They were very professional, attentive, and great customer service. Personable without being too friendly/overbearing. I generally have low expectations of buffet food so they definitely exceeded that. Didn't care for the mac n cheese but it is rare a restaurant makes one I do like. There were a couple other things I didn't care for - steamed shrimp texture was off and the bacon wasn't crispy enough for me. I also wish they had more dessert options. There were so many yummy items like the fried fish, grits, waffles, fried and jerk chicken, sausage, cabbage & greens, omlette station, salad - did I mention the syrup is kept warm? Mmmmmmm. Pretty much everything listed on the menu was available, which was nice. Also played some great reggae and R&B. Definitely give it a try! I know I will be back in the future. They have DJs and performances on the rooftop some evenings, as well.
My friends and I had a wonderful time gathering at The Society Lounge. Everyone had something different to eat but the consensus was the food was SUPERB!!!! Only issue was the music was way too loud in the lounge/dining area, it made it difficult to socialize (we had to scream to talk to each other). I don't believe the music in the dining area needs to be so loud as the space is small. The rooftop area was like cherry on top so loud music on that level is fine because it's more open and the music is less deafening. Also I think you should definitely enforce the no caps/jeans policy, just to keep it high-end/classy. All in all my girlfriends and I had a BLAST and we will definitely be returning. It's nice to have somewhere that's suitable for a more mature clientele that you can enjoy a great meal while listening to great music.
I planned a small gathering for my friends 50th birthday. The staff was very friendly and professional. They called me to make sure all my needs were met and even called back again to confirm my reservations after I changed it. She LOVED the place!!! We all loved the food and the live reggae music was awesome!! Definitely would visit here again!!! Next time I'll venture to the rooftop since I didn't get to this time.
I had the red snapper entrée and it was worth it. I also tried the bread pudding for dessert which was recommended by Greg (our waiter) and that was delicious. I'll definitely return.
The quality of the food and service was superlative. The waiters, waitresses and hosts were affable and attentive. The noise level got somewhat high at times which made conversation a challenge. It was a great dining experience overall and I plan to return many times!
We had an enjoyable time celebrating my husband's birthday. The hostess was awesome in accommodating us, the food was delicious and the music was great. The downsides were the music was loud to hear one another and it was very hot, especially once we started dancing. These are reasons for only 3 stars. If you plan to go, make reservations early and read their site for requesting tables and arriving on time.
I had friends visiting from Indiana and we decided to meet for dinner the evening of Friday 7/21. The couple wanted to have dinner in downtown Silver Spring, so I suggested Society Restaurant and Lounge. The total experience was extremely nice, the only issue I had was what the music was a little too loud and we seemed to be screaming at each other to talk. The hostess, waitstaff, food and service was very good. I would definitely visit again and recommend Society as a social spot to gather with friends.
For what ever reason service was bad Tuesday night. I have been here several times before and never experience this. Waiter brought check and we waited 20mins and he never came back so we went to front to pay. He finally showed up at front then had he nerve to added to his tip and I asked why he did and he said he just rounded up . I never asked him to do this especially since service was horrible
First time there it was nice, we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The service was great and the DJ was good. We will be back!
