The Society Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Thank you Mr. Jason Miskiri for opening this amazing spot. Good was unparalleled I had the Miskiri inspired cocktail the one with the Remy and I'm far from a fan of mixed drinks, that is now my Go-to! Fantastic me and the wife will be back soon for familiar faces!!!
I made a reservation for 8:30 as it was a special occasion and reservations were recommended. We arrived on time, but the initial table they tried to give us was a bar table right in the front door. When I asked for a 'real' table, they were very accommodating. It did take a few minutes, but we were very pleased. The food was excellent. Wine list was not extensive. The ambiance was fabulous as we went on reggae Tuesday and the music and vibe was fabulous. Upscale clientele. Only complaint I could have was that they were so busy that it was difficult to get the attention of our waitress as often as we wanted. The manager was super attentive though and made a great effort to make sure everyone was happy.
Server was rude, drinks were forgotten, then once they finally arrived there was a bright lipstick stain on my glass. Food was bad but service was worse. As he approached he asked "what do yall want". First time dining there and last. Overall horrible experience.
We made a reservation and arrived 15 mins early to find that our table was given to someone else and we had to wait 45 mins to me seated. The food was good but they did not compensate us for the error on their part. I've been going hear for years now and the service has not seen significant improvement.
Great place to come to grab a bite after works or on a Saturday evening with your boo or your friends. It's reasonably priced & has a menu that isn't overwhelming. My favorite menu item is the Society salad with grilled jerk salmon. The mac & cheese is too soupy for my liking and the wings are just ok. The bar is fully stocked with tons to choose from.
Have been here 3 times now, for happy hour, dinner, and brunch. The food is delicious, no complaints there. But the service is consistently terrible, blase, slow. And they rush you out of your table. Had brunch reservations for Sunday and we were initially placed at a table that was so close to the host stand people were inches away from us. Had to ask two different employees to move us bc the hostess just said "This is the table." and walked away. I doubt I'll come back here. I wanted to love it bc I want to support my own people and the food is great. But for the prices they charge, I need your staff to actually be nice to me and try to be accommodating.
Service was horrible. The host (clearly someone's angry aunt) was not helpful and sat my guest and I at a small table top right in front of the host booth, which sat right in the middle of the walk way. That spot shouldn't be a table period and I don’t think anyone could eat there comfortably (clearly that didn’t matter to Society and their staff). After asking that table was the only table available and receiving a rude response, we left and will never come back. I was actually looking forward to dining at Society for the first time, specifically because it’s a black owned business that serves Jamaican food; however, I was highly disappointed.
Sooooooooo not only could our server not hear us over the blaring music, he couldn't understand why the food needed to be sent back for not being cooked all the way and tried to explain the waffle making process which while interesting was unnecessary.
For a place with a lounge area upstairs the music in the restaurant was so loud we couldn't talk amongst the group without screaming at each other!! It was all bad and for it to be my birthday it was the worst.
The food was delicious and had a lot of variety! The service could have been better. All of the wait staff was supposed to be available to help any table; however it was difficult to track someone down. We had to ask 3 or 4 different people for a fork and knife so it was a while before we could actually eat our food. Also, I wish we were told the buffet price increased from what they advertised online due to the holiday.
Overall the food was great and staff was friendly and would definitely go back because of that.
The food was adequate but not worth the cost! The price of the brunch was not advertised/printed nor was the mandatory gratuity of 20%. This caused questions for me and the table next to me. The service was poor. I had to ask for items multiple times and wait 5+minutes for my check. This was my first brunch here and don't know that I will be back. It's was early when I arrived but the restaurant staff seemed to be unorganized. Bottom the cost for 2 brunches and gratuity is way more that the food or service that we received!
As someone north of 50, I'm no longer instantly drawn to uber-trendy lounges. But, the place on my recent visit was surprisingly inviting. Neither the staff nor the clientele was pretentious in any way. I met a family member there for dinner and cocktails. The table service was excellent; the food was tasty and delivered promptly along with the drinks. My only nit is that there appears to be only route to the upstairs lounge, that is up a rather long flight of stairs. So, I'm not certain how accessible the lounge is to an individual who might be mobility-challenged. Perhaps there's an elevator that I overlooked.
Met a friend here for Happy Hour for the first time. We arrived at 5pm and the place was not crowded. Service was fast, attentive and friendly. The prices for the food and drinks were very good. At the end of Happy Hour we ended up upstairs to enjoy Hooka, music and more drinks. Overall had an amazing time. It was "Thirsty Thursday" with DJ Curry who definitely added to the fun. Our waitress here was FANTASTIC. Will visit again soon.
I had a great time at Society. I visited on a Thursday around 8:30 pm. I had the macaroni and cheese balls. They were so good. There was a band playing some old school 70s-90s R&B. The band was amazing, and soothing. My date and I then went upstairs and the DJ was playing Soca and dancehall reggae, our favorite music! It was a good time.
If you want to relax, sip some wine or have a few cocktails in a more calm atmosphere I'd suggest staying downstairs. If you came to dance and party I would definitely venture upstairs.
The only thing I didn't like was the hookah being upstairs since I don't smoke and because it was chilly outside Society had the rooftop enclosed. It was warm at least, but I just don't like being enclosed with people smoking around me.
Despite the hookah I would certainly return to Society including the bar/lounge upstairs.
