About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Kid-friendly
  • Outstanding value
The Snail offers fine dining in its restaurant, The cuisine is Modern British with a French twist. In the Bar and large outdoor terrace area and gardens with childrens play area and football pitch we offer a more typical pub menu all prepared with local welfare friendly ingredients home cooked to a high standard. We have real ales, quality wines and first class service in both sections of our premises. The signature dish of course is “ESCARGOT” snails, parsnip puree and herb biscuit. We serve afternoon teas in the bar area or gardens and have a extensive cocktail menu. We can cater for large parties for children's birthdays and weddings.
The establishment is run and owned by the chef Michael Morgan. We look forward to welcoming you to this delightful restaurant and pub situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Garden of England.

Once again a lovely meal on the night before we went on holiday. Always attentive staff but discreet, friendly and helpful. We had their latest offer, steak etc and food was delicious. We had dessert which was divine, the chocolate fondant pudding! Thank you once again to everyone at the restaurant. Such a lovely evening.

The food was good and well cooked but the service left a lot to be desired especially as the restaurant was not busy.

Very good food, friendly service, lovely beer garden with amusements for the kiddies, especially when the sun shines.

The evening at The Snail was poor. They ran out of some courses on offer. Alternatives could not be offered by the Chef. The toilets were in very poor condition in need of decoration. The toilet seat in the gents toilet was broken. Altogether as this was an anniversary it was a very very disappointing evening. I can't see us going back to The Snail.

Having not visited The Snail in over 10 years it really is looking sorry for itself & nothing like the last time we enjoyed a family celebration there. The restaurant generally looked tired & sadly came across as a business in decline. The menus advertised on the website were not available although I can not fault the chef who offered an alternative. We were also given complimentary coffees which was a kind & unexpected gesture. We chose the location as it was a good meeting point for a business lunch but probably wished we had travelled a bit further afield, Sorry to be so negative.

The snail was ok but lacked atmosphere as it was extremely quiet even on Father's Day which is what we went there to celebrate. The food is also ok but certainly doesn't warrant the £16 they charge for a roast dinner. Good for children as they have an outside area with play equipment and a football goal but if you are after a good atmosphere and quality food at good value for money I would avoid. The interior and WC facilities could also do with a spruce up!

Went for Sunday lunch. Sun was shining so most people were sitting outside. We sat inside and were the only people there. Only 2 starters on the menu so my son ordered the ham hock terrine. Very salty and not well presented. He had roast lamb and beef for the main and I had the turkey. Mine was lovely he said that the beef was chewy. For desert he had the chocolate fondant again badly presented and stone cold. I had the passion fruit soufflé which I waited for to be cooked. Reminded me if a fruit omelette! Ambience was poor, service ok, mains were on the whole good but the rest was awful. Will not be going back.

It is always such a pleasurable dining experience at The Snail, a real hidden gem. The food is delicious and freshly cooked to order. We can recommend the steak, come hungry, as the portions are generous. I loved the passion fruit souffle, it is so beautifully presented and the taste is to die for! The waiting staff are always very pleasant and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Ambience is good and it is lovely to discover a restaurant that is not too large, so nice relaxed atmosphere. Great offers available from time to time, without reduction in choice or service.

We booked for a lunch with some friends and weren't disappointed. Service was good and not over-fast and no pressure to get going either!! Starters were excellent and well portioned. Mains as well were well prepared and lovely presentation - duck was pink enough; the girls' steaks were just right medium and the lamb shank fell off the bone! Deserts were too good the avoid so home-made ice cream was the popular choice and the souffle was a treat (as was the melt in the middle chocolate fondant). A dining delight............
