Nestling beside Seaton green and just 50 yards from the beach, The Smugglers Inn is a family and dog friendly pub that prides itself on offering a traditional selection of classic pub fayre, cooked by our enthusiastic team of chefs, using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Along with the classics, we have a continually updated Specials Board where our chefs love to show their flare and creativity.

The highlight of our culinary week is undoubtedly our Sunday Carvery. Routinely described by our regular customers as ‘The best roast in the area’, with a selection of 3 roast meats, crispy roast potatoes, an amazing selection of 7 vegetables, plus homemade Yorkshire puddings and gravy, it is a truly sumptuous feast to end your week!

Vegetarians are also well catered for, with many of our dishes available with a vegetarian option, including our carvery which comes with TWO homemade vegetarian choices – a delicious nut roast and a vegan lentil roast.

We should have known when they didn’t have a wine list & presented our Sauvignon Blanc wine warm!! Words fail me really, should be a great place virtually on Seaton beach, but one of the worst places we’ve ever been to, food is vile, ALL FRIED! Staff (except our lovely Canadian waiter) looked straight through us on arrival (must have had our invisible coats on!!) . Full of beer swilling low-lifes & football louts, biggest mistake we’ve ever made, Roy don’t words really, filthy filthy tables not wiped down, full of flies (& this was outside) & with disgusting filthy stickers about their covid rules, like we need reminding!! They insist you wear a mask when that’s not law now & we didn’t hence a full 5 minutes before the staff, casually chatting to each other, actually spoke to us! It needs a decent company to take it over & turn it into a decent restaurant with a deck so you can actually see the beach & not the grills of cars!! Not enough Words to describe how awful this place is! DONT GO THERE if you like good food, good wine & want a good meal! You’ll be fine if you like beer & football & normally go to Spain for your holidays!

You were in the wrong pub, u should have been in the beach bar with raised deck rather than our friendly pub, we're no match to your educated taste! Tho not so clever as u failed to read our menu full of salads, pizzas etc Yes we still encourage masks indoors Our white wine is chilled but it was 29C, no surprise it didn’t stay cold Football? We prefer rugby but hey, we only show internationals For the rest of your joke review we know readers will see our mostly 4/5* reviews, and get what we are!

Had a table booked for 1pm was seated 10mins before. Could only order drinks on the app but not food!! Why? Who knows. Got the drinks straight away but then sat there for 50mins without the question, are you ready to order? Drunk our drinks and left! Waste of time! Been shut for god knows how long but obviously didn’t have the staff to cope, Altho it wasn’t exactly full. If you want service, use the cafes.

Lovely lunch with some friends. Busy but not too crowded. 45 minute wait for food but they did have a sign out saying this which is great as it manages expectations! Food was lovely and freshly cooked.

Service was great and we were not rushed or hassled to leave.

Food was very good could not be faulted.Would query whether 2 metre rule is being enforced with location of some tables meaning less than 2 metres between customers. We are going back so guess in summary that says it all.

Friendly staff. Meal good
Only booked tables accepted so no walk ins
Which was a shame as by the time we left at around 9.00 pub was nearly empty. Would of stayed longer if more people there but no atmosphere in a empty pub

Staff need more training as more often than not they had their heads down when passing tables in order to ignore the customer. We had to ask for menus and to be served. Once served we were ignored again. This is the first time I have written a review as never complained before.

Thank you for today first time my mum has been out of Torpoint, we were made very welcome from the start, despite being very busy, Kerry-Ann our waitress was brilliant, kept us informed as to the wait because of the amount of people turning up at almost the same time, every time she passed our table she asked if everything was ok and did we need anything, food was amazing, looking forward to doing this again, thanks once again x

Ordered fish and chips. Being on the coast I expected fresh. Not! Don’t know where they got their trip advisor rating. Won’t be returning. Worst meal of the week. Nice staff.

The Smugglers Inn
Responded on July 9, 2021

We earned our trip-advisor review from our customers, the vast majority of whom are very happy with the food and service we provide them. Since no Looe fishing boats regularly land cod, we source our cod from a Frozen-at-Sea supplier meaning it is frozen within an hour or so of being caught, and hence is amongst the best quality cod available. If you were to chose one of our fresh fish specials, these are sourced from local boats, and are normally day-caught fish.

Classic pub food at a very reasonable price. Loved their sticky toffee pudding.
Unfortunately they didn't have the fish pie that was on their menu that evening but otherwise all good.

We all agreed that the bill was very expensive for what it was. It was pub grub. When we ordered a gluten free fish & chips we assumed it would be a gluten free batter but this was not the case. It was simply just the fish.
Otherwise, service was lovely, the Canadian waiter (sad I didn’t catch his name) always offers a friendly face and a fab service.

Overall, an average meal out.

The Smugglers Inn
Responded on July 9, 2021

Thank you for your custom and your review. We're sorry you felt we were expensive, however the vast majority of our customers give us 4 or 5 stars for Value, and they appreciate that we are not a Wetherspoons providing mass-produced microwave meals, but instead employ a talented team of chefs in our kitchen who prepare each and every meal. We're glad that you found our service staff to be lovely though, and our Gluten Free fish and chips has always been a seasoned, oven-roasted fillet of Cod.

We booked our table for 6-30 but arrived early for a pre- drinks. The table was ready and we ordered our drinks. The servers were mainly young ladies and were very pleasant. The drinks took a little while to arrive but we were early so it was okay as there was no rush.
We ordered the small fish and chips which we understood to be cooked fresh. When the food came we ordered a bottle of wine. We were halfway through before we had to ask where the wine was. It then came so we could finish our food with it.
In the main it was a good experience and the food was very good. The servers are quick to take your orders but as previously mentioned the delay in getting the drinks was not so quick. It would not put us off from using the Pub again as the food was very good.
