The Smugglers Inn
Along with the classics, we have a continually updated Specials Board where our chefs love to show their flare and creativity.
The highlight of our culinary week is undoubtedly our Sunday Carvery. Routinely described by our regular customers as ‘The best roast in the area’, with a selection of 3 roast meats, crispy roast potatoes, an amazing selection of 7 vegetables, plus homemade Yorkshire puddings and gravy, it is a truly sumptuous feast to end your week!
Vegetarians are also well catered for, with many of our dishes available with a vegetarian option, including our carvery which comes with TWO homemade vegetarian choices – a delicious nut roast and a vegan lentil roast.

Made a nice change to find somewhere that did a choice of vegetarian food. Delicious cheesecake. Pleasant efficient staff
Dog friendly, we had the Sunday lunch, plenty to choose from and not stingy with the portions, the puddings where the same, will definitely be going Back there
Wow the girls serving amazing thankyou
The chef amazing we had the carvery and his jam coconut dessert my husband had to finish was beautiful
The customer service and safety covid rules were all in place
But I have to give top marks to the girls all excellent
Now here for the gripe
We went back in the evening for a drink
My husband bought two Prosecco we sat outside on a bench to drink as he asked if that was ok they said yes but looked like we were on the wrong bench on the grass bit with views of the sea
This rude rude boy working from the smuggle in told us we could not drink our drinks he wanted the glass back and stood waiting for us to drink quick so he could take it back so much for ambiance
He needs a lesson in finishing school I hate making complaints but he was rude ,asking us feel awful
So thank god he was off shift lunch time
Great staff, clean tables, great food, happy days!
Lovely little place to stop after a walk on the beach. Staff were lovely and the food was both delicious and plentiful. Would definitely recommend. Dog friendly also
Great personal service again thanks for a lovely meal
Had a date night, wished we lived closer (180miles away) cannot fault the food. We will be back.
Another great vegan meal lovely talking to the chef who is a vegetarian so understanding towards vegans thanks
Good food, refurbished since our last visit and great improvement
The food was the sunday carvery which was all really good. Hiweve where we sat at table 26 the heat was really uncomfortable, very near the carvery. Maybe have a door open if possible to help reduce the heat. This did spoil our experience.
Staff all very friendly and good seating area outside.
We visited 3 times last week while we were in the area on holiday , very clean , great food and friendly staff highly recommended
Good pub grub and friendly staff. Good beer too. A most enjoyable evening
Great selection of dishes. Friendly waiter service. Meal was served in a very short period of time. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great friendly staff and wonderful food at a good price x
My Dad was visiting for the first time in 3 years, I took him there for Father’s Day which he loved so back we went, Was greeted by Danielle our waitress was a young girl called Amy who was amazing, and our chef was the lovely Emma,
Fantastic food good service in a lovely dog friendly pub by the beach. Life is hood
Very enjoyable, the food was lovely and reasonably priced.
Sunday lunch is very popular. You must book or expect to wait. Carvery was fantastic both times I have eaten.
Food was lovely. Staff very friendly. Not sure if we got forgotten though, we were sat behind a pillar, as the wait was longer than the staff said. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you
Family Sunday Lunch. 3 of us had the carvery which was excellent and my wife had the fish pie and she enjoyed it very much. The portion sizes are very generous and I struggled to finish the adult carvery. Would definitely recommend
Staff were friendly. Drinks served straight away. Bit of a wait for the food to arrive but was good when it did.
A family of 4 and a dog . Lovely warm welcome and fantastic service from the lady with the blonde hair in a ponytail. Food was really delicious and lovely big portions, was great value for money and dog friendly too , and they even had a doggy menu of sausages or doggy nuggets which was fun . Would definitely go again . Was right by the seafront too .
Amazing staff with very friendly service. We booked to sit inside as outside was unavailable to book online, yet when we got there, there was a table outside free, which the staff said we could sit at. Food was delicious. I’m just a bit confused that there is no smoking outside, unless you go into the one small shelter provided, but there is also a specific no smoking area outside.
Not everything on the menu was available, but good food and excellent service.
Wonderful place with wonderful staff and excellent food. The ploughman’s was the best one we’ve had
We booked a table at short notice and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The service was excellent and food excellent value for money. We had an excellent evening and decided to go back the following evening and as before the whole evening was fantastic. A Big thank you to all the staff.
Fantastic food just what we needed before heading home. Glad we booked in advance
We love the Smugglers. Staff are all friendly and helpful. The carvery is absolutely the best!
Great staff lovely food
Absolutely brilliant food. Will definitely be going back at some point during are stay at Downderry
Had booked table outside for 7pm had to go and find a member of staff at 7.20pm to ask for a drink. A member of staff came to take our order, we ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. Starters came out quickly, 1 was cold. Staff came to remove the plates for starters at 7
We then sat waiting for our mains for a long time, in the end a young member of staff came to see if we were OK, we told him we were still waiting for our main course and asked if they could put lights on as it was now pitch dark. Lights were broken so couldn't have them on. Food finally arrived around 8.25pm. Why have the option to book a table outside if staff are not going to wait on them. We have ate at the smugglers for the last 5yrs and never had a problem before.
Been a few years since I was on holiday in Seaton, the Smugglers hasnt changed much, the food was okay, average really, service good, wasnt very busy when we were there, so not much of an atmosphere.
Had to wait over an hour for meal.had to ask for drinks and lack of attention. Tables very close together.parking was expensive and rammed. Would not go again.
Staff member was very friendly HOWEVER after pre-booking due to staff shortages in kitchen we still had to wait well over an hour for ours mains which to be honest wasn't great 1 Starter was miss sold and missing the hot baguette. We booked table for 6.15 as we had a young baby with us and wanted to eat early we would have left expect that they make you prepay in advance.
Service not great as only 2 people doing everything. Asked a simple question and got met with a very short sharp reply!!
We have been coming to seaton for the last 5 yrs. We always eat at the smugglers and we have never had a bad meal. Staff are always friendly and polite, another big plus is they are very dog friendly with plenty of water bowls for them.
Meal was a little late (still very busy for the staff) but service was excellent.
There was a delay on food due to staff shortages but the staff that were there were lovely and kept us informed. We were on holiday so were not in any rush. Since we visited last year there had been a refurb and it looked amazing.
Very mediocre food, no atmosphere, didn’t receive all order and ended up with sides coming after everyone had finished.
When on holiday, we always head for The Smugglers, easy to book a table on line, good service and good food.
