Wonderful food and terrific service! Our thanks to the amazing chef!
Every dish was outstanding. I had a lamb shank - I believe it was the best ever. Scallops as an appetizer and butternut squash were also delicious. Hadn't been there for several years, plan to return soon.
Have been wanting to visit this restaurant for years now and finally had the perfect excuse-18 years of marriage! Everything about the grounds, reception, bar and dining experience was 5 star. An expensive treat for certain, but one we will dare to repeat!
Great restaurant for a nice dinner and a special occasion. The selection of food and wine was extremely enjoyable. Service was friendly and made great recommendations. Would absolutely come again.
absolutely amazing! Paul is an amazing guy and bartender!
This restaurant is an absolute delight. What a phenomenal experience we had. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and they had specially printed menus. We were waited on hand and foot. The food was a revelation. The wine pairing was sublime. The service was perfection. It was our first time and the restaurant itself is so beautiful. It must be so amazing to dine there in the winter time with those fireplaces burning. A definite winner if you’re looking for a classy, delicious meal.
Wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary! I highly recommend it!
Loud party of excited diners lowered the ambiance but the meal and service were outatanding. Great food and a great location for a terrific meal a few times a year!!
Wonderful 35th Anniversary celebration
Very nice prix fixe meal, great service and a beautiful setting.
Vey nice for a special occasion. No rush from the servers over s very relaxed enjoyable meal,
Antrim 1844 does not live up to its reviews or its sense of itself.
Except for an inventive lentil based amuse bouche, the food was conventional, fussy, and heavy-handed, pretending to deliver big city elegance, but feeling both out of date and pretentious. The amuse bouche, which was Middle Eastern inspired, felt like the one area where a chef with ideas was allowed to be creative, and it was the one item that was very good.
The ambiance also disappointed. The setting is undeniably beautiful, but once we realized we were sitting in a plantation built by enslaved people held by a notorious pro-slavery advocate, it was difficult to feel anything other than woefully uncomfortable. The owners would do better to acknowledge the terrible history of the house and grounds. Slavery was a fact in this country, and we should all study and learn from it.
Romanticizing plantations and glossing over their brutal history is not cool!!
I booked on OpenTable for my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary and it was everything I wanted it to be for them. They raved over how knowledgeable their waitress was and that the meal was perfectly prepared and delicious, all 6 courses! They allowed me to keep my card on file to cover the bill so that they didn’t have to think about that which was nice. It was very personalized, the bartender even welcomed them and knew they were celebrating their 40th anniversary, the menu was personalized with a happy 40th message, all very simple touches that made the difference. We are already planning another trip in October and will include the wine pairings option with it this time!
This was an amazing place, I’m glad I chose to come here with my girlfriend on our first date
Great food as always hoping they resume the passed appetizers in the living room again
It was my 40th birthday. So fantastic! The service and food was exceptional!
What a delight to return to The Smokehouse Restaurant after a year and a half of pandemic. The offerings were just as diverse and excellent as always, and the service may have been even better than we recall (of course, it had been so long since we'd been to a restaurant that our memories may not be entirely reliable in this respect). All in all, our evening was an absolute treat!
Beautiful place! The food was absolutely delicious, and it was a perfect place for me and my husband to dine after eloping. Gorgeous, would definitely recommend.
Not as wonderful as our previous experiences. Entrée was tough and oversalted. Waiter was distracted and had to be prompted for different items.
Our evening at The Smokehouse was just what it was intended to be when my husband made the reservation to celebrate my birthday. Just terrific! From the moment we walked in the front door (although parking was a bit difficult, but I'm sure you are very aware of that issue), we were beyond impressed with the beauty of the house, and the folks who greeted us. The bar was beautiful and Paul was a great, friendly bartender, and we relaxed while waiting for our table to be ready (we were early).
When we sat down in the smokehouse, our table was one of only four in the room, and it wasn't long before all four parties were chatting as marvelled over the original smokehouse and the parade of fabulous food coming our way. Choosing the entire evening's menu at the outset made for a relaxing evening anxiously awaiting the wonderful tastes of the next course. The portions were perfect, and the service continued to be prompt and beyond attentive.
My only comment would be that given the day's temperature, a little more air circulation in the room would have been welcome, but it was a passing criticism overwhelmed by the beauty of the evening. I can't say enough good things.
I wish there were a better way to get the story of how the house was redone and opened as it is, as well as the other buildings on the property and their stories. But perhaps this is planned for the future. I'm sure it would be very interesting. And it was amazing to see a Barouche Box in the parlor off the front lobby - amazing!
We would highly recommend the 1844 Antrim house to friends and hope to bring friends and visitors to Gettysburg who appreciate a fine dining experience that for us was second to none! And I cannot forget the fabulous piano player, he added so much to the ambience of the evening. Congratulations to the entire staff and the owners for an unmatched evening of fine food and an overall evening to remember, complete with personalized menus - Thank you!!!!
The food is very good, but it's the service and atmosphere that make it memorable.
Beautiful ambiance. Delicious food and wine and fantastic service!
Upscale fine dining in an intimate romantic setting. The restaurant asked about dietary restrictions while booking the reservation and were well prepared to offer substitutions to fit my needs. Timing of the food, service, and food quality were all magnificent.
Probably the nicest restaurant in Carroll county. The service and food were amazing.
Pricy pris fix but well worth it. None any better in Balto metro area.
Fabulous service and food and wine pairing !
We were so looking forward to coming here and it didn't disappoint. Incredible service and delicious food.
Diners may want to consider requesting smaller portions. It's a lot of food. I understand management will consider adjusting the price accordingly. If you can take leftovers home that's great. Because we stayed over one night, management offered to keep our food refrigerated until we left next day. Breakfast was included with the overnight stay.
Did the 6 course dinner with wine pairings two nights in a row. Amazing...
Absolutely delicious food. Every course was prepared perfectly and allowed for a variety of choices.
Everything was very nice! The food, service and atmosphere were all you could ask for. A beautiful country mansion with nice gardens and fountains. Also enjoyed the talk with our bartender and the many choices of whiskeys.
It was our first dining trip out of the house in over a year and it was absolutely wonderful! The food was amazing and we felt safely distanced. Don, our server, was an absolute treat!
We had dinner in the Smokehouse to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. It was a wonderful experience, the people, the food, the drinks,...outstanding. My husband requested that I book reservations regularly here, it was that good.
Hands-down the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and attentive. I felt like the wine pairing was spot on. We will definitely be back!
Great food as always. Some other diners were a little loud but we dealt with it!
Wow!! Most incredible experience and beautiful atmosphere it is a must see!
This is a lovely venue with high aspirations for top-notch food, wine, and service. Recognizing the times we are in with everything in hospitality being topsy-turvey, I have to give a little leeway to the situation, but our "sommelier" and lead server (a fact she reminded us of, oh, maybe 10 times) was really grating. A very loud voice, an "over-studied" and obviously much-rehearsed script made for a clumsy and awkward dining experience. Service at this level should be accommodating, thoughtful, and inconspicuous. Servers should be attuned to the conversation at the table and the pace of consumption. She called each of us "my friend," maybe fifteen times and insisted on giving long-winded speeches about each wine being served despite the fact only one person was enjoying the wine pairing. Our "Professional Sommelier" was someone who has a great interest in doing a good job, but an individual with, it seems, little personal experience in what fine dining service ought to be like. You can't learn to be a top drawer server on YouTube. Observation and personal experience are better. Further, and this is a pet peeve, women in service ought not to be forced to dress as men. "Tuxedo" attire seems awkward on women and a, perhaps, unconscious nod that the best servers are male. Which, of course, is not true.
Thank you for taking the time to share your visit with us. Understandably, this is not the experience we want our guests to have when dining with us. I would be very interested in having further conversation regarding the other aspects which were also rated low (food, ambiance, etc.) so I can have a better understanding of your overall experience. At your convenience, would you mind contacting me directly? I look forward to hearing from you. Kindest regards, Jim S. - General Manager.
What a wonderful venue and experience. Food was delicious Nd service wonderful
Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. It's a bit expensive, but it is well worth every penny. Amazing waitstaff, incredibly food and drinks, and the atmosphere can't be beat. I can not recommend it enough!
We truly love the Antrim and we’ve been coming during the holidays which makes it extra special. Absolutely love the details of brunch and the Riesling wine was lovely. My compliments to the Chef and staff.
