The waitress was super friendly and accommodating to my friends and I. Would definitely go back with a group of friends.
The food and service were very good. However, we were seated in the bar area, which was too noisy for comfortable conversation. We could not hear the server and she couldn’t hear us either.
I ordered the bibimbap and added shrimp. It was SO HOT that I couldn’t eat for almost an hour without scalding my mouth. Everyone else in my party was finished long before me. That said, I did get to try the short rib special and the brick pressed chicken, and a side of the roasted cauliflower. Those were delicious!!
The drop in stars for the service was due to them forgetting my dessert order when they delivered the rest of the table’s desserts, then we couldn’t find a server to let them know, then it took an addiction 5-7 minutes just to get vanilla ice cream. But they were friendly enough when the were at the table.
Too loud! Had to scream just so we could hear each other.
Too much salt if food
Great experience and food is delicious!!
Best Brunch in DC...killer pancakes
What I love about this spot besides the excellent food is how well they have trained their staff!!! Great for dinner and Sunday Brunch and a block from metro.....Special kudos to Jay, Alisha, Zapora, Rose (in training)...Could not ask for anything more....but it is also reasonably priced...Perfect for private party as they have space in rear of restaurant....
Thanksgiving dinner. They ran out of apple pie. Not a huge deal, but REALLY, Thanksgiving traditional meal and they can’t make enough out for everyone with reservations? BOOOOOOO. extremely disappointed!!!!
We had Thanksgiving dinner at The Smith. The food and service was fantastic. Even though it was crazy busy we were able to get seated on time. The whole meal was delicious.
Had Thanksgiving with friends and family. Great experience. Mac and cheese were great. Turkey a little dry. Salmon was amazing. Had lots of doggie bags.
Really great service and delicious food! Great thanksgiving meal with family thank you!
Such a great spot from oysters and cocktails to brunch (breakfast entrees come with a complimentary cocktail)
Fabulous service. Saturday’s short ribs was delicious. Will come back again for brunch.
Good energy. Good food. Nice fresh addition to U & 14th. Make a reservation and check it out.
Good food—had the Kale Caesar salad with salmon and a cocktail—the “apples” cocktail (“How do you like them apples” I think it’s called). Would definitely go again, but if you don’t like anchovies on your salad, make sure to specify!
Tasty food with excellent service! I highly recommend the quarter pounder (which are actually 3 large chocolate chip cookies). A simple American cuisine.
Birthday surprise for my wife
We hadn’t planned to eat at The Smith , but I am so glad we did! Our overall experience was amazing! Location, waitress, FOOD and vibe. My boyfriend and I split the Hot Potato chips with blue cheese fondue (not pictured bc we quickly devoured them), baby gem wedge , the Saturday short rib and caramelized apple pie topped with bourbon ice cream 🤤 (also not pictured bc we devoured it immediately). Everything was amazing and perfectly seasoned. The vibe was chill and our waitress was great. I definitely recommend!
Reliable addition to the U Street scene. Good traditional but updated menu. Great cocktails, nice wine list. Have become our go to favorite.
Had a Lincoln Theater show and The Smith is ridiculously convenient. The physical plant is appealing, the service was very attentive and the beer reasonably priced and interesting. It was burger night (16 bucks for burger and beer) and so three of us had Octoberfest Victory beers and burgers, Fries were good, healthier participants had frigging brussel sprouts which were evidently tasty and burgers were very good.
I enjoyed this restaurant very much. We chose it because we were attending a concert afterwards at the Lincoln Theatre. The food and service were good. I was disappointed that the music was so loud. Between the loud music, the marble floors and metal walls, it was too noisy for me. For that reason I probably won't be back.
Great food, great service but so noisy that I could not hear anything that the people I was with said. I had a table in the bar section near the door. I suspect this is a noisier part of the place. While I am happy to be in a vibrant exciting restaurant, part of the reason to go out with people is to be able to build my relationship over a shared experience. This one did not allow us to communicate well with each other.
Fabulous food and really friendly staff!
Too loud. 95 decibels = lawn mover. Even with a reservation seated at bar tables, not dining room. Dining room was much quieter. Confusion by servers on who got what dishes.
We had a large group for a birthday but the servers were great and food delicious. Little loud for conversation so probably would go with a private room next time.
Perfection! Exactly what I expect from The Smith. Nick Azzara is a delight and the food was superb.
Order the fried chicken. It's the best I've ever had in my life. The service was excellent. Our server Will went above and beyond! If you ever go when the weather's nice sit by the open doors. It's fun to people watch and see the sights.
The food and service were great. Unfortunately, the linen napkins were so cheap that my lap was covered by unremovable lint when I left so I was a mess for the rest of the day. Had to take clothes to cleaners to have the napkin lint removed. I don’t think we’ll be back.
I arrived on time, but the restaurant was busy and wasn’t able to seat us for 35 minutes after our reservation. The staff seemed overwhelmed for a Sunday. The food and drinks were fine, though - I would try it again for sure because I liked the ambience.
It was very busy, which I understand makes things difficult. But we saw our waitress once. The rest of the time we were served by either the manager or whichever busser we were able to flag to down.
Overall great experience. We were seated later than our reservation on Saturday night but were not in a rush. The service was fine but the food was great. Very full restaurant and a little loud but could still have a conversation. Always a good go to.
Great brunch deal - Entree included a free cocktail (usually 11-12 dollars).
Found my new fav brunch menu place in dc! My party was late but manager Devon was super accommodating, letting server know about my allergy and giving us a table that accommodated my dining mate's baby. Steak and eggs was amazing, as was the Gatsby cocktail and jalepeño cheddar grits.
My NYC friends hyped this place up for a while and now I see why. Beautiful space, great food, excellent service from Kristin. Looking forward to my next visit to DC. Will need to come back for the U Street Burger!
The menu is odd. The food is just average but the prices are crazy expensive.
So this was my first time experiencing The Smith.... I was really excited and from the outside it looked FABULOUS... walked in...giving Diner🤔... in a cosmopolitan vibe which is fine but at first glance it was giving me Great Gatsby!
The place was super packed, too loud, felt like folks were squeezed in...Waitress seemed stressed! THEN the food came... friend and I ordered a few items, first bit🙄 was toooooo salty!! We were displeased and disappointed! Paid for the meal... let the waitress know about our experience. Next thing I know the manager came over and was so pleasant, apologies that food wasn’t to our liking and comp the meal. That was great customer service!!! The beautiful African American women with fab style, distinct look and pleasant personality!
This is my favorite place that’s not expensive in DC. Their fried chicken is spicy and crunchy, yet juicy and the grits are amazing.
Brunch options are always great: my favorites are the avocado toast, Sicilian eggs and the pot pie.
The donut dessert is also amazing!
Great food and service. Too loud though, it's an American bistro.
I just thought the service could have been better.
The food is good, but service during brunch hours isn't great. Our server was distracted by larger parties and as a result was not attentive to our table.
