Great food selections, loved the free cocktail at brunch! Always a fun visit.
Always a great time at the Smith
Nothing was great or bad, it was just a little disorganized because of how busy it was when we went. We had a reservation, and they seated three of us at what looked like a table for 2. Drinks were good, and we ordered oysters before our meal, but the oysters came out after our steaks came out, so that was not ideal. Given the challenge of getting any table at all in this neighborhood on a Saturday night, it was nice to be able to get one somewhere, and overall I was satisfied with our choices. Not a place that you have to go if you are in the neighborhood, though.
It seems as if The Smith can’t decide if it’s a fine dining establishment or a diner. Menu was nothing exciting.
The best brunch in the city. And by ‘best’ I mean it’s clean, the staff is personable and knowledgeable, the menu hits all the cravings, the food shows up just in timeand it’s just that spot.
Perfect for a leisurely lunch with a friend -- at least the day we were there. Very accommodating wait staff.
What a deal, cocktail included if you order a brunch meal. Yes please!
We were visiting from Michigan for the Thanksgiving week, moving our son into his first apartment. It was nice to have a place for the holiday with great food. We highly recommend The Smith and will visit there again when we are in town to see our son. The Paris Family.
So happy we chose The Smith for our Thanksgiving meal. The menu had plenty of good options for an authentic dinner and the included sides were a nice touch. Staff was terrific from start to finish. We truly enjoyed the festive atmosphere AND not having to do dishes that night. Kudos!
Like my Mom, they did not skimp on portions of a most-excellent selection Thanksgiving spread (hope you're reading this, Le Diplomate). This will be a turkey-day tradition from now and I have recommended it to several friends. 🥰
Lovely Thanksgiving dinner—highly recommend for a holiday meal out.
Excellent dinner for family at a great price point. Server and staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout. Food was delicious!
Brunch food was great.
Large party so understandable would be complicated. Server was amazing enduring slow food, missing orders, bartenders weaknesses, no coffee service for brunch. The Smith is usually great all the way around. Miss a bit this time, unprepared for the day. Will still recommend based on food alone. Only negative would be the bar and bartender not being up to par. Food arrived before drinks throughout, missing ingredients for certain drinks. Manager was well represented told us they would remove some items, had to ask when we received bills. Having no coffee at brunch was dissapointing. I would have to give kudos to our server for taking the L's in stride and bring awesome!
I spent my birthday dinner here (party of 14) and although I made a reservation we had to wait 45 minutes to an hour to get seated. HOWEVER, the restaurant/management was extremely accommodating. They were very empathetic and did everything they could to make sure my guests and I remained happy and calm. It is a little tight, but what restaurant in DC isn't :). The food was delicious and it's in a prime location on U Street!
The Smith is a great place. Fun vibe, active bar, great food, and an attentive staff. The only downside is the sound level. While my dining companions had no issue, it would nt be a great spot for someone with difficulty hearing. The sound is definitely part of a fun vibe... Just be aware of it. The Smith is one of those chain places that does not feel like a chain place.
The pancakes are amazing. Everything is a good value.
It seemed like the restaurant was understaffed. According to our waitress there wasn't a bar runner, so she had to bring our drinks. My drink did not arrive until my main meal arrived. We had a appetizer prior to the main meal. The gentleman next to us also said it took 20 minutes to get a beer. His burger was also almost raw. Back at our table, Bar Burger and not the Bar Steak came to my sister. The manager did come over and apologize. Honestly, mistakes happen so it wasn't a big deal, it just felt like all these things were a result of being under staffed. Our waitress was nice, but seemed all over the place. There also wasn't anything taken off the bill for all these errors.
I went for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The food was amazing. I ordered the shrimp and grits and they were so creamy and savory. The jalapeno cheddar was a nice touch and not too spicy. Overall it was delicious and it did not break the bank. I would definitely return.
Great Eggs Benedict !! Delicious sweet potato fries and incredible Bloody Mary. Efficient and friendly service! Noise level was bearable this time.
They were way understaffed for wait service. However the waiter we had was extremely nice
Our server was ver helpful and patient. The complimentary cocktails were delicious. I had the Gatsby and two others had Bellinis. However, a couple of the dishes were not what we expected, namely, the shrimp and grits. The presentation appeared to be more of a frittata look, but my friend tried it any way. Didn’t like it. Again, the waiter was so helpful and offered her pancakes in exchange which she really enjoyed. ... I ordered the Benedict and asked if I could exchange the ham for salmon. I’d done it easily before, but something was lot a bit in translation. All good, though, so I got grits on the side. ... Overall, a good experience. But if you want your traditional Shrimp & Grits or Chicken & Waffles, be prepared for a twist.
Delicious, inventive brunch items in a nice setting. The cocktails were also yummy, and I especially enjoyed the drinks made with Pisco. I would definitely return again.
Excellent brunch spot with something for everyone on the menu. Our family loved it. Only thing to be aware of -- can get very noisy so if you want a quiet spot to talk, might be a bit challenging depending on time of day.
We had great service from Jessica. She was very attentive. The restaurant is a bit loud but a good vibe. Great spot for a fun get together of friends. The food was solid; the oysters were great. Sort of upscale diner and bistro food. Definitely worth a visit.
Love the energy in this space. Was disappointed that the table for 3 was so small and in the middle of the floor, but that was corrected after 2 requests. The host is excellent.
The Smith was amazing! I had a large party very last minute and they were so great at accommodating us. The food was wonderful and our servers were very attentive and helpful.
The service was great and the ribeye with eggs was superb!
Great vibe and excellent food.
Fabulous! Great cocktails and even better meal! Love the ambiance and decor, very friendly staff
Awesome food and drinks, great happy hour! Slow service, however, but they said they only had two bartenders that night. Got uncomfortably loud after 8 pm, but the quality of the food was worth it.
Waiter and staff were very nice!
Parking was very difficult. Not a good choice if you are driving.
Like all good FORMER good restaurants--service is terrible. Understaffed. Even the consistent good food is mediocre now.
The design and atmosphere are great, as is the food. The service can be slow, though, and the restaurant is VERY LOUD.
The restaurant was cute and the menu looked great, but it wasn’t that tasty. The cucumber ginger beer tasted like the cucumbers had gone bad. The special was not as described and overall, fell short.
Great service! Food was amazing, had some issues with the cooking of red meat. Had to send 2 pates back once and one plate still came out very undercooked.
Didn’t have any of the food I ordered. Was entirely too loud in there.
Awesome Sunday brunch includes a free cocktail...worth every penny
We were seated at a really awkward table where servers were literally passing food over our heads and we had to keep moving our chairs. We also didn't receive any bread, so we asked and then it came after we already had our meals.
