The Smith - U Street
We love this place and come regularly. The food is delicious, staff is friendly, and they it's kid-friendly.
Wonderful staff, great location
Outstanding special that evening on lobster! Devon, the hostess, could not have been lovelier. We live in the neighborhood and this is slowly becoming a go-to place for us.
Great place to join friends for dinner. The staff could be a little more engaging but they were very nice! Food was great and came quickly and was hot.
I have recently developed several food sensitivities so The Smith is now my “go to” restaurant because they are conscientious and accommodating. I’m grateful to have them in the neighborhood.
I recently stopped in for brunch and had a very pleasant experience. Though it was quite busy, the team was very efficient. My friend gushed over the breakfast pot pie and I really enjoyed the egg white omelette. I definitely recommend this place for a great meal anytime of the day.
I loved The Smith! It was delicious, and a nice atmosphere. I loved the design/decor of the building.
Our waiter was amazing... he really tries to make everyone happy and everything perfect. That made it easy to overlook some short comings
They never disappoint! Service and food is top notch!
Because it’s 2019, and we’re all trying to start this year off on a better foot than the shitstorm that was 2018, I will make this review as positive as humanly possible. We were able to grab a last minute rez on 1/1. Once seated, it took about 15 minutes for our waiter to find us to ask what we wanted to drink, allowing my dining partner they’re drinks! Cups don’t have their own legs! Or arms! Upon setting down our beverages, our waiter delivered the exciting news that his “colleague” would soon be over to deliver bread(!). I rarely call my actual colleagues “colleagues,” “this is a fancy place,” I thought, “I can’t wait for the bread(!)” We also gave him our orders at this point and then buckled up for what was sure to be an exciting culinary ride. Plot twist: we never got the bread. You’re probably thinking, “ It’s 2019! ASK for what you want!” and to that I’ll respond, “I agree!” In fact, after about 13 minutes we let our waiter know we had yet to receive a visit from his esteemed colleague and the promised bread(!). He assured us he’d go grab it himself momentarily. Well, the moment quickly passed because we turned our heads and saw what I can only assume was another colleague not on bread duty trot out of the kitchen with two steaming plates of food. Tbqh, we actually really enjoyed our dishes EVEN THOUGH our stomachs did not have the chance to warm up/stretch their legs with the pre-entree bread. I’m running out of characters (no regrets, the story of the bread is one that needed to be told) so in summary: terrible service, solid food for hungover stomachs, no bread.
Went there for NYE with a few friends - live crowd, great service. Really delicious food as well moderately priced. Will definitely be going back here.
New Years Eve!
Really enjoyed the food and cocktails. Service was great. Was a bit noisy, but we were seated in a corner that was more quiet and allowed us to talk.
Not great for a date because you can't hear each other. It wasn't crowded, I think it's the structure of the restaurant. But it is great for food and drinks. If you want dating or music ambiance then go to Bus Boys and Poets. If you're a foodie, then The Smith is what you want.
Very friendly and accommodating for Christmas Eve dinner
Great service. Great teamwork by the staff. The food is always good and consistent with the NYC restaurants. All that subway tile means it’s gonna be loud, so prepare yourself for using your outside voice indoors. Cocktails are creative and well made, albeit a little pricey for DC standards.
Great for our large group but also great for a date.
Came here for a celebration with 18 guests. Our server was great. The appetizers and deserts were good, the entrees could have been better. Great service and very accommodating. Made this celebration a great one
Great food friendly waitress. No complaints
The best staff with the best food
Amazing atmosphere, fabulous drinks and food, first class service!
Totally delicious. We will be back! Fried chicken was amazing as was catfish. Not a bad dish on the menu.
The food was good, but the service was just painfully slow. 20 minutes to even be greeted. Our server was very nice, but we ultimately needed to ask for the check after about 40 minutes before our food even came because we had a prior commitment.
Took us over an hour to get our meal during brunch.
Food was good, Service was very poor, we had a large group and drinks took forever to get to the table, messed up orders.
Really great food and service at a fun restaurant!
Perfect for dinner after a show at the Lincoln with a group. Kitchen is open late.
Food is excellent. Service is very friendly, but at times a bit slow like they are understaffed. It can be loud, but it’s not too bad. I love the eclectic menu.
Great food and drinks. Very loud during brunch when the restaurant is full. Will return regardless.
The waitress was super friendly and accommodating to my friends and I. Would definitely go back with a group of friends.
The food and service were very good. However, we were seated in the bar area, which was too noisy for comfortable conversation. We could not hear the server and she couldn’t hear us either.
I ordered the bibimbap and added shrimp. It was SO HOT that I couldn’t eat for almost an hour without scalding my mouth. Everyone else in my party was finished long before me. That said, I did get to try the short rib special and the brick pressed chicken, and a side of the roasted cauliflower. Those were delicious!!
The drop in stars for the service was due to them forgetting my dessert order when they delivered the rest of the table’s desserts, then we couldn’t find a server to let them know, then it took an addiction 5-7 minutes just to get vanilla ice cream. But they were friendly enough when the were at the table.
Too loud! Had to scream just so we could hear each other.
Too much salt if food
Great experience and food is delicious!!
Best Brunch in DC...killer pancakes
What I love about this spot besides the excellent food is how well they have trained their staff!!! Great for dinner and Sunday Brunch and a block from metro.....Special kudos to Jay, Alisha, Zapora, Rose (in training)...Could not ask for anything more....but it is also reasonably priced...Perfect for private party as they have space in rear of restaurant....
Nice location. Good food. Service was a little slow, but bar service was excellent.
Thanksgiving dinner. They ran out of apple pie. Not a huge deal, but REALLY, Thanksgiving traditional meal and they can’t make enough out for everyone with reservations? BOOOOOOO. extremely disappointed!!!!
We had Thanksgiving dinner at The Smith. The food and service was fantastic. Even though it was crazy busy we were able to get seated on time. The whole meal was delicious.
