The Smith – Penn Quarter, Washington, D.C
Book your next event with us
The noise level is so loud in this place. There is tile on the walls, floor and ceiling and tables are close. This is no place to have a quiet dinner with s loved one. Also a lot of tourist frequent here due to the area of town so beware !
The food is nothing special and the wait staff is just interested I. Turning the table. In our case that wasn’t an issue. We couldn’t get out quick enough.
Sat outside, way too noisy inside.
Table was slightly tilted and rocky but busy sidewalk and gorgeous evening made it tolerable.
Tequila drink could of been stronger. I hate drinking from metal containers, would prefer real glass.
Meat was delicious and my wife’s salmon salad was tasty.
I would return.
We had a huge group, 10 adults and 4 kiddos, and the service was still great!!! Food super as always—
We had a great experience, casual dining with a polished edge. I enjoyed the meal with my kids and our server Juan made them feel listened to and appreciated with how he treated them. The noise was high, but it was quite busy.
The tables are too close together. The man behind me literally had his chair up against mine. When I mentioned it to the hostess as I was leaving, she said, "Well, you should have asked for us to move you." I replied, "We were there first. You seated him directly behind me as our lunch arrived." I wish the hostess would have apologized instead of suggesting it was my problem to solve. There were empty tables around us that the man's party could have been seated at. I felt the man was aggressive in pushing his chair up against mine. Not a pleasant lunch. However, the salads are good.
Juan our server was above and beyond friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful with discovering some new items to try and the bus boy Tony was Uber friendly and kept our table clear so we didn’t feel crowded.
Food was good, however service wasn’t that great. Waitress forgot our drinks and sides when our entree meals came out and we had to remind her 3 times what we ordered.
Big portions! Definitely get your money worth. Happy our waiter suggested we share sides. The chicken sausage and home fries were really good. Didn't like their syrup, so I didn't enjoy my waffle. But would go back and try some other brunch items.
Demasiado rico el brunch, lo único malo fue que no respetaron la hora de la reserva y me hicieron esperar 20 minutos, por todo lo demás nada malo que decir.
I will definitely return again. The food was amazing, and our server Juan was the best.
Always very reliable. Great food every time, great for brunch!
The service was very slow and he was not giving us any attention. Multiple times, food and drink orders were not brought to the table and had to be questioned for. Right from sitting down, it was very slow which initiated by not getting our first drinks until 32 minutes after we sat down.
The noise level was horrible, you had to yell even to get the person directly across the table to hear what you were saying.
The food was decent; however, I wouldn’t go back based on this experience.
Dined here with our family, best meal in DC this week! Everything so good!
Looooooooved.. It. Our server Juan U. was a trooper. Go see Juan.. TRUST him. He won't steer you wrong.. We'll be back for sure...
Outstanding service. Complimentary bottles of still or sparkling water always on the table. Menu has something for everyone. Try housemade ginger beer. Save room for the amazing S'Mores dessert, large enough for 2.
Way too noisy at lunch. Impossible to hear the person right next to you. They crammed five people into a table for four when there were larger tables empty right around us.
I love The Smith. I’ve been to 6 of their 7 locations. This was my first time at the Penn Quarter location. The food was just as great as normal. The only issue was that we were sat 45 min after our reservation! We checked in 15 min early to the reservation and we’d sat down one hour later...on a Wednesday.
It’s a good restaurant, but way too loud of an atmosphere. Granted, it was busy when we were there, but everyone in my party had to yell to be heard by the waiter, and even then, we had to repeat ourselves. Tile on the floor, wall, and ceiling did not help the noise issue. Otherwise, food was good; but never fun to leave and feel like your ears are ringing.
Post celebratory dinner with good drinks, good food, and great company
We spend a lot of time in the Capital One Arena area but had never been to The Smith before. We loved it! Great location, ambiance, food, drinks and service. We were there for lunch on a Sunday and we can't wait to go back for dinner!
Service sucked this go around. My usual spot so today must have been off. The pancakes were cold the syrup was ice cold and by the time I did to heat it up my bacon was cold. So the whole meal socked not to mention the server. She was slow and curt
Food was excellent but way way too loud and the chairs are uncomfortable. This restaurant is probably ideal for 20somethings but not so much for 50sonethings like us. I have to say the Thursday special roasted pork shoulder was outstanding and merits a return visit but it may be best to dine alone or forgo any attempt at conversation over dinner.
The Smith is a nice spot for a quick lunch. On this occasion, it was a bit loud. Also, the grilled chicken sandwich was not as good as it has been in the past (a bit cold, and the chicken slices were quite small).
Made a reservation but had to wait almost 20 minutes before being seated. Other groups came and went, but we still waited. The server was not attentive at all. He didn’t write down our orders, and messed up two of the five. We had to flag down another server so we could pay and leave. I’ve been here numerous times for lunch and dinner, but after this poor experience I may have to reconsider in the future.
My fourth visit to The Smith - each time excellent food but more importantly fine service. It is a bit loud but with the fine service and food it's worth the loudness. Each time I have been with different friends and we've enjoyed ourselves.
I’be eaten at The Smith before & it was okay.
It’s getting to be like a slightly upscale version of Ted’s Bulletin-sorry to be blunt!
The food was better in the U street location
Overall good experience
We had a table of 13, including 5 kids. We had 2 waiters who were super attentive and all the food was great! Most at our table got the short rib special which they all said was outstanding. The short rib burger was also a hit! Great for a large group. The waiters brought complimentary ice cream for all the kids at the end without us even asking! Nice added touch!
Yummy food & fun brunch options, but service lacking. Came in on a Saturday afternoon w/ reservations. We were seated right away but it took awhile before our server greeted us. The menu was stellar and everyone enjoyed their food, but the lack of attention from staff and poor timing of meals/drinks coming out took away from the overall experience.
Great service, full bar, great food!!
Atmosphere is amazing food menu has a variety of things to choice from and pricing isn’t a deal breaker at all.
Very loud, I wouldn't take my dad here because he has a hard timing hearing.
Service was exceptional and food was so very tasty.
Both Kenise, our server and Tony, our busser were fantastic. They went above and beyond on menu selections and refilling our glasses.
Delicious food, service was a bit slow but they were busy. Our appetizer was brought out late so they comped it.
The food is always great -- consistently tasty and interesting. Service, however is uneven. We've had great service and bad -- this time was bad. Our server was sweet -- but rarely around when we needed her. It didn't totally ruin dinner, but it sure didn't help.
The Smith is a nice place with some outdoor seating in the heart of downtown DC. The oysters were fresh and the menu extensive. There were plenty of options regardless of how hungry a person might be. Besides the food options, we really enjoyed the ambiance.
Way too loud
