Great experience, delicious food!
NEVER had a so-so experience!
good for a casual work lunch. Got a little loud, but it is DC at noon so i had low expectations. Trendy finishes, decent food, DC prices.
The food was very good, and there was a wide selection to choose from - brunch is a particular highlight. The service was a little lacking - we had to ask three times for our drinks, and a couple more times for plates, etc. But overall, a great place to hang out with friends or family and enjoy a beautiful Sunday. It is spring now, so their doors are open, and fresh air flows throughout the restaurant - its quite nice.
I went here for my birthday dinner. I was really excited to try it because I've heard great things. I think some of my issues with my experience are partly due to the fact I had a party of 10 at one table. It took awhile for our drink orders to be taken. They only have us two small plates of bread which was very dry. Our main waiter seemed very overwhelmed with all of us which I felt bad about. I ordered the Smith Bar Steak with fries and chimichurri sauce. Considering the price, the steak was not that great. You can get a better steak for the same price somewhere else in the city. It was kinda fatty and wasn't the best. My friend told the waiter it was my birthday, which I didn't know until after dinner. The waiter told my friend they don't do anything complementary but they'll put a candle in a dessert. I ordered the s'mores dessert which was pretty good. Overall, for the price I paid I was hoping for a much better birthday dinner. I really wanted to like this place but it really missed the mark.
We have been here a number of times but very disappointing on our last visit. The waiter did not accurately answer a basic question about the preparation of the food leading to a much less desirable outcome which I simply would have ordered something else.
First time here. Enjoyed it. Amazing customer service.
food is awesome.
Waiters were eager to take our plates away even though there was still plenty of food on them.. Super noisy, but I'm okay with that.
This restaurant is in an excellent location, great ambiance, food and service. The only down-side is that the noise level is very high.
Food was just ok. I would not go out of my way to go back. The server was super nice but absent for long periods of time.
This place was so cool! Great atmosphere, great cocktails, great food!
It was our second visit to The Smith and it was wonderful. The food was very good and the service was excellent. They helped us with recommendations and kept our glasses full and cleared away items in a timely manner. The staff was fantastic and we never felt rushed. All the dishes we ordered were delicious. I would highly recommend The Smith
Lovely. And even treated my hubby to a dessert on the house. Will definitely be back.
Fun, great food! I would say its Casual Chic! Good drinks!
We went to the Penn Quarter location of The Smith for my wife’s birthday brunch. We hit considerable traffic on the way, due to the Cherry Blossom festival, and were running a little late, but the staff made sure to accommodate. The food was great, and it wasn’t too noisy, so our group was able to converse and enjoy the experience. Overall, we were very happy with the meal, and will certainly be back.
The food was delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and knew the menu well and was able to answers all of our questions. As a team more individuals brought our food to the tables and everyone was very pleasant and friendly. We will definitely be back for brunch again.!!
We started at the bar. The drinks were ok and expensive. For brunch I had the best meal, omelet with spinach. I added Swiss instead of feta. There wasn't much cheese. The waffles were very sweet and the Italian egg dish was ok. Not sure I'd go back.
We had an amazing brunch for a table of 8 at The Smith yesterday after the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. They were a little late with our reservation, but it was very, very busy (Cherry Blossom Festival + great weather), and they were gracious about us checking in every 5 minutes. Once we were seated, everything was fantastic. The cocktails and food were all outstanding, and service was well-timed. Our waiter did forget a cup of coffee amid our many cocktails, but that was forgivable in the busy atmosphere and easily fixed. Would definitely recommend, and would definitely go back!
Highly recommend this location of The Smith - the food was outstanding and the ambiance was beautiful!! We got the vanilla bean french toast and hardly said a word to each other as we shoveled it into our mouths!! So delicious.
Double date with couple from out of town
Lively atmosphere. Great drinks. Food is consistently great. Save room for dessert.
Quiet in the back
Our waiter was excellent. Attentive without hovering, chimed in with good advice but generally gave us space. Seat by the window, towards the back was perfect for incognito people watching
Brunch was great - they were very crowded but the staff handled it well - we had a reservation and arrived early - we hung out in the bar while waiting and had a terrific server - Keneesha - when we were seated Derrick took over and he was great too. We will return for sure!
I am a big fan of the Smith as a New Yorker, and was delighted to see that the DC location has maintained the charm, attention to detail, and quality of food and service. Highly recommended for a hip, upscale experience for prices that won’t devastate. Strongly recommend you make a reservation—the locations are always quite busy.
The Smith is a great location with food that does not disappoint. The only true issues we had were with the check as it was a group of 11 and they only allowed for one check. That was a slight damper on the experience. As well, it did take a while to be seated. Still, the food was fresh and atmosphere nice.
Food was excellent. Noise level was high. Great location.
I am at a loss to decide to vote "yes" or "no" on recommending this restaurant. The menu was good, the food was very good, and the location is great. The service was average. However, the noise level was so extreme that I, personally, will not return. It's not just a noisy restaurant, it's a restaurant that precludes conversation with more than the people seated adjacent to you. If you are someone who likes that acoustic bombardment, then you will probably love this restaurant. If not, I would think twice before going there.
Food and service was awesome above expectations. But way too noisy. All reflective surfaces no absorption panels. I am really serious to loud to enjoy a meal. But the meal and service was GREAT.
Delicious food, great service, convenient location near metro stop.
The food was really good. Get the tuna poke! Drinks were a little pricey.
overpriced, mediocre food, lousy portion balance (tiny sandwich, mostly bread and fry, mound of french fries
Nice ambiance, good food, ok service. The mac and cheese and kale and quinoa salad I had were great. Totally recommend this restaurant.
Celebrating son’s Catholic confirmation. Food and service was great but two of us got sick at the same time. See additional private note below.
Our sever was terrible. Not attentive at all. It seemed like he was new because he didn’t know a lot of things and as repeat customers we had to tell him what to get or what to do for many things. He made the whole experience bad. Not sure if we will come back.
It was really busy, as would be expected on a Saturday night. They were very kind and great service, we had a reservation and were sat right away. The food was only ok- I got the vegetable bimibap and it had clearly been sitting under the warmer- not only was it painfully hot to the touch, but the rice was burnt to the bottom of the bowl and it had no sauce or flavors. The egg was hard and I don't think there was kimchi, or it had dried out. Ultimately I didn't want to say anything because saying something would have upset my mom, which I was trying not to do- and trust me- upsetting her would be worse than me getting a slightly too-done meal. The server was excellent and after my dad asked for a new fork and knife because his had touched the table (he has never been bother by this before so who knows...), he quickly returned with a fresh set in a new napkin.
I like the layout/how cute it is- but it is LOUD. caution if you are trying to have serious conversations. It was fine for my dinner.
Went to brunch with my fiancée. Food was fantastic and ambiance was lively. The staff was friendly and responsive.
Fun place for a weekend brunch - Excellent service and light atmosphere. Disappointed that there was no effort on the menu to identify gluten free options, and no GF breads or pastry to substitute to make some of the brunch staples.
Great service, but the tap system wasn’t working, and out of calamari.
