The Smith – Penn Quarter, Washington, D.C

We went before a Caps game, so it was very crowded. It was convenient to park at the arena and walk there. The food was ok, but not fantastic.
the food was good. way too loud could not have any conversation. Server busy, overwhelmed.
Our family’s go-to spot right before a CAPS game. Always a great meal and excellent service and you can’t beat the proximity to CapOne Arena. The only negative is the noise level but I guess that gets you in the mood for the game.
Good food and drinks. Fun place to go before the Caps game.
My only complaint is the noise. The Smith is a great place to hang out with friends so of course it’s loud but worth it.
Our food was delicious and the staff was very pleasant and eager to please. However the team server concept needs practice. Dishes were delivered to the wrong diners and one dish was just wrong altogether and had to be sent back. We will go again.
Make a reservation just to be safe! Not a good first date spot because it’s not an intimate setting. Really good for and drinks! Good dining experience.
took us 30 -40 minutes to get our food after seated. Food was luke warm Had the" Johnny egg benedicts"
Went for brunch! Large portions, there are lots of tables, good food. Tends to get busy! I made a resrvation. Convenient to shopping in Metro Center/ City Center and a quick walk to Chinatown. Overall good experience!
We arrived at the time of our reservation and we were seated immediately. We were served water and bread within a few minutes of sitting down. Our waiter came by and took our drink and food order. Both arrived within a reasonable amount of time. We finished our drinks at the beginning of our meal and wanted to order more. We also wanted ketchup for our french fries. Our waiter, nor anyone else ever came back to our table during our meal even though the waiter was within a few tables of ours numerous times. The restaurant was extremely loud so getting his attention without getting up to find him was impossible. They came and cleaned off our table and took part of our meal that we were still eating.
The waiter finally came by with the check. Very disappointing.
Great food ,great service, great place to visit. This was our second trip to the Smith and we plan more trips
Wanted to like it because everytime we walked by it was packed. We waited about 15 minutes even though we had a reservation, then waited another 15 minutes for our waitress to come by. The food was just ok, nothing special, my shrimp was overcooked and dry. There are far better restaurants, this would not be one I would recommend.
Food was delicious and came out quickly. Prices were reasonable. Atmosphere was lively.
Good food, good service, would return!
Food was okay to good, service was poor, slow, and inattentive. Entire experience would have improved if waiter would have taken a drinks order early on, and kept up pace of service
Overall seated very nice but a little pricey just because of location and atmosphere.
Great late night spot after game at the Capital One Center. Convenient to the arena and metro and accepts reservations. Limited menu but overall a good experience.
Always excellent food.
Food wasn't too bad. I had the mussels and thought they were very good (hotter than expected since there were a lot of red pepper flakes, but that worked for me) and there were a lot of them! The fries that came with the mussels were pretty good, but a bit soggy under the top layer. It took almost our whole meal to get condiments for the fries - then when we did it was (without exaggeration!) less than 1/2 of a teaspoon. Had to ask for more right away. My husband had the pot pie, and thought it was pretty good. For the price, it wasn't as good as expected. I'm glad we tried it though, the location is nice and the interior is very beautiful! I don't think we'll be back given the very high prices - there are a lot of similar menus within a few blocks with much better prices and really great tasting food.
Outstanding food and service. Team went out of their way on our first visit to get us in an open air area that was perfect. Great food and staff went above and beyond at every interaction.
A server dropped the jar near our table and broke it.
A piece of glass flew into our seat and hit our feet.
It was a very horrible experience.
But they do not apologize properly.
Are there other restaurants with such bad service?
Also, the restaurant is very noisy.
The food and service were excellent. I had a salmon dish that was very tasty. I thought it was pretty loud though.
Volume restaurant. Service was slow, food was okay and it is very noisy.
Very noisy. Food was average - some things pretty good, others meh, and all fussy. Service was friendly, but not attentive. Table was incompletely set. Hard to get someone's attention.
We showed up a few minutes for our reservation we understood that our table wasn’t ready and we were willing to wait. 20 minutes later we still weren’t seated although, it seemed like everyone else who was waiting did. We didn’t get brought to our table until we brought it to the attention of the hostess who was not at all empathetic. The food was just ok and half way through our meal our waitress went MIA. We had to track down another server just to get our check. We definitely won’t be returning here again.
Food was not warm, order was brought out wrong and then staggered when they corrected it. I only received an I’m sorry. I was also seated in a back corner with several tables with small children running around, bumping into my chair and table, etc. Brunch was not enjoyable today at all.
It takes FOREVER to get waited on in this place. Great food. Worst service I’ve ever experienced.
Fun vibes, great service, and amazing food! I would recommend everyone to go!! :)
Really excellent brunch spot: the menu had something for everyone, food was delicious and the service was excellent. Everyone on staff seemed to be happy and enjoying what they did. This made it an even better experience.
Friendly and attentive service. Our server, Raspberry, was excellent.
Too noisy to talk to anyone....the service was awful. Too many better places in DC where the service is so much better! The food was nice but not outstanding enuf to overcome the noise and poor service
Delicious food- great atmosphere- food came out at a reasonable time.
The table was not ready until 15 minutes after our reservation which was a problem because we had theater tickets. My wife ordered her burger medium well and it came with a huge pink stripe in the middle. My son ordered a steak medium rare and it seems cooked properly but the temperature indicator sticking out of the meat said medium well. On this night anyway, better management in the kitchen and the front of the house was necessary
I normally like the the Smith. The food is great. Especially brunch. Unfortunately, this time around, service wasn't very good. It took 10 minutes after being seated before our waiter even acknowledged us. 15 minutes after that for us to get coffee, 20 minutes after that before out waiter checked on us (we had to flag down another server to see if we could get refills on our coffee and our waiter didn't check on us after the food was delivered by other servers to make sure we were okay). I'll be back, but I hope our waiter's service improves before then.
I’m sooo glad I’ve found a place with such ambience, tasty food and good service in DC.
Service was outstanding! Our waiter gave us the best service, checking in often but not too much. He observed drinks needed refills and was not intrusive in asking if we needed refills. The drinks were great! Noise level was very high due to hockey fans and Happy Hour fans before 7:30 pm. After the crowd died down, the noise level was much better. The chicken pot pie described was not what was expected - the crust needed attention! For a party of 8 celebrating a birthday - we rated the overall experience at a 10, service at a 10 plus, drinks at a 10 and food at an 8. Would return again for happy hour and beyond!
Food was pretty good, but service was really bad. When a member of our party asked the waitress what was in a sauce (allergy concern) she shrugged and said she didn't know; we had to insist she go back into the kitchen and find out. Long wait to get order, ordered food was missing, and waitress did not feel like talking loudly in a noisy restaurant and so was hard to hear. Not sure its worth trying them again.
Great place- vibrant ambience- loved the food- service was outstanding- enjoy this place and is one of my favorite go to places!
