Top notch from start to finish.... The food and and service were impeccable and Malcolm took very good care of us. Looking forward to coming back and exploring the rest of the cocktail menu!
Delicious food; perfect setting for an evening visiting our college child. Attentive and friendly service made the evening extra special.
We often go to The Smith and love it. However, for the first time, we were very disappointed. We ordered the Scallops and were disappointed with the quality and size of the plate for the price. It was more a starter plate than and entree, and it was not good at all. Definitely not worth the $32 price tag. Even the Mac & Cheese, our favorite and must have when going to the restaurant, was not as good as always. Waiting staff never checked on us or asked how the meal was. It was unfortunate because we brought friends visiting from out of town saying it is one of the must go in DC and the experience was very poor. We usually go back at least once a month, now we will unfortunately think it twice.
Seated promptly and our main server was good. Less then thrilled with busing service. As soon as you take your last bite plates are cleared out from under you. I know it’s not a fancy restaurant but it’s still just plain rude and bad form to clear plates from diners before everyone at the table is done. I finished and my daughter was still in the middle of her meal when I my main plate was cleared without asking me if it was ok. I had to shoo the bus girl away 2 more times to try to keep my bread plate while my daughter was still eating. The portion of the bucatini I had was quite small and I finished before my daughter who had the mussels which took longer to eat. Was annoying. Service is pretty quick which is a plus - but rushing you out of your chair on the back end is not. We were only at the table for 70 min total for drinks and dinner so it’s not like we overstayed even on a busy night.
Stopped here before several Caps games. Always seated on time. Staff is always friendly. Daily specials help add variety to the menu. Good tap beer selection. Clean bathrooms. A tiny tad noisy and crowded before a Caps game...but that’s understandable. They have a huge bar area.
The food, service, and atmosphere are great. I have now had several different things on the menu and they have all been fantastic. Great location too!
Okay, but be sure server understands your requests: dressing on the side, salad served with main meal, etc.
Delicious martini and oysters, very friendly but appropriate waitress. The noise level was a bit high for us, but the vibe was energetic and pleasant.
My friend's BLT-E (egg) arrived without the bacon...? My son's grilled cheese was approximately 90% bread and 10% cheese. Disappointing.
My eggs Benedict was awesome
Great food. Fun atmosphere. Excellent service. Highly recommend.
It was a great experience. We were seated quickly and service was awesome. The food was delicious.
Had a reservation for four, but never made it in. Still waited for 20 mins. Need to manage their tables better than that. Walked away in frustration.
Restaurant was loud on a Saturday night but server was great and portion sizes were quite large (and delicious)!
Excellent food and the service was slightly less than excellent. Crowded and the waitress seemed a little slow.
We had a great server. It almost made up for the incredibly loud noise level, punctuated by periodic banging and booming sounds from the kitchen or prep area—and we asked for a quiet location.
Tourists like this place. Loud and young tattooed servers. But they lack attentiveness. Food was surprisingly good (we shared one very large order of mussels and 4 oysters plus an interesting gazpacho). But with one wine and one drink we had a bill for $80 and with tip the total was $96. Maybe I’m living in the past but to me that is not good value. I expect something more for almost $100.
Food and service were on point. Mac and cheese was phenomenal.
Food, service, and ambiance are consistently excellent!
I travel to DC a few times a year and enjoy The Smith. This time was special. Earlier in the week I had a late night drink and Juan was bartending. An unsavory character came in, sat next to me and made a huge scene. Not only did Juan look out for my safety (as a single chick traveling alone for work), he bought he a drink. I came to eat dinner tonight with a client, and he sent over dessert to-go brought by the manager with another apology.
Service like this is well above and beyond! The extra touch is why The Smith is wonderful. Thank you SO much for amazing service. Other establishments could take a lesson from Juan and The Smith. Cheers!
Horrible service and restaurant management. Despite the restaurant being far from busy (more staff behind the bar than seated at it) it took forever to get our drinks ordered, and then a longer time to get them made and delivered. The food was good, as I've come to expect at the Smith, at least.
During the evening an alarm was triggered, and the staff did nothing to explain what had happened other than answer, when we asked if we should leave, that it was a false alarm. It went on forever, and we wanted to leave but couldn't get our waiter's attention to get a check.
Will stick to the NYC locations of the Smith.
One of the best brunches in DC. Have been to both locations and have enjoyed both.
It was our 5th year anniversary. Great experience!
appetizer was cold - tables on top of each other. So loud you couldn’t hear yourself talk and the service was Abysmal. Not worth it - too many other great options in dc.
Outstanding as always. Finally tried the Fried Chicken -- was NOT disappointed. Baby Back Ribs were terrific as was the Salmon Tartare. Service was particularly good this time. We've never had a bad time at any Smith.
Everything we had was delicious! Very happy with our choice; neither of us left anything on our plates and the desserts were fantastic!
Pre hockey game dinner chosen for location near arena. Filled with fans also on their way to game. French fries a la McDonalds were best part of meal, burger ordered well done was pink....and on. It is what it is - convenient but not a place to be fussy about your food. Enjoy the game!
Good food. Good time. Great Bloody Mary.
This was a pleasant surprise - we only booked here because some others were booked at the time we needed (we were going to the theatre that evening). The food was great - especially the crab cake "tots." Drink was superb, and my coffee w/ whiskey for dessert was perfect. They even had soy milk for creamer, which SO many restaurants opt not to have for non-dairy people. We will come back here!
Prices were good for the area. Food was very good and they have a great selection of beer, wine, and whiskey. Was loud so I don't recommend it for a business dinner.
The Smith is a fantastic place to dine. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is prepared to perfection and the drinks go down smoothly. I highly recommend.
Average dood, snall portions, friendly but slow service
Overpriced, food not good, small portions, a waiter was pleasant, however, people cleaning the table took the salad that I could not finish and it was supposed to be boxed, but they threw it away. Never again The Smith!
We were a family gathering of eight for brunch and the occasion was a great success: excellent food, fine service and a delightful atmosphere. Our thanks to The Smith - Penn Quarter
They were very patient with our toddler and have an excellent children’s menu.
Good food although I thought it was rather high for a salad. Service was great and she was very attentive.
Nice spot, a little pricey but food was good, the crab tater tots are absolutely fantastic. Nice bloody mary as well. I would recommend this place
The Smith was outstanding. The mosvaried and unusual menu I have ever seen. We did Weekend Brunch. Loved every minute of it. Cornbread Eggs Benedict, Gaspacho with yogurt, Brioche with cinnamon, swimming in caramel. Plus oysters, shrimp and lobster.
I have eaten at the Smith a couple of times, originally in DC. It is solid and consistent. Nothing knocks your socks off but it is a good restaurant.
