Nice environment but food is overpriced for the quality. If you want American fare you’ll get better food at T.G.I. Friday’s
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. A little pricy.
Food was fine, but the service was rough, with long waits for anyone to stop by the table. We were informed that the restaurant was out of Diet Coke and English Breakfast tea. How does that happen?? Also, seated by a window with no shades and the sun was beating in and blinding half our table for the length of our brunch. 10 foot windows are lovely, but it's not fun to eat in a greenhouse.
On the negative side, 2 sets of walk-ins were seated before we were seated with our reservation. Had to send back a cocktail that was made incorrectly. Burger was dry. Tagliatelle lacked flavor. Pacing of meal was poor. Our drinks ordered for the main course arrived well after the food. On the positive side, the squash rings were excellent as was the Manhattan. My poorly made cocktail was replaced free of charge. Nice wine and beer list. Bustling place.
Interesting menu and food was good. Shockingly and unpleasantly loud - so loud that I could not wait for the meal to end. Would never go back at a busy time.
Great service good food real noisy though will be going back
Staff was very attentive, water was filled often and plates and utensils were removed quickly after we were done with them. Server was very friendly and offered advice and recommendations.
Outstanding experience at The Smith. Out pre-Caps game dinner had great food, great drinks and excellent service. I highly recommend!! The cod over brussels and the burger royale were both upscale and quality dishes. Our server and the management were very friendly and made our experience 5 stars! We will be back.
Amazing food and vibes! Got the Sicilian baked eggs, others got Mac and cheese, french toast and their most popular burger. Everyone was so happy with their meals! Also, i got the Farm Flor Cider and it was amazing. Great experience, will be back!!
The experience was good and service was attentive and great
Great food, good, spacious setting, so not too loud, and a good value.
We went here after a long day of museums and had a reservation. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time, considering it was very busy with Capitals.
Mushroom flatbread was sorely lacking in mushrooms. Meatballs and spaghetti was spicy and otherwise lacking in much flavor and served barely warm. Service was excellent. Convenient for capital one arena but otherwise better choices for food in that neighborhood.
I’ve been here multiple times for brunch and dinner but this might be my last trip. When I went to check in at the host stand I had to wait for the hosts to finish their conversation before they acknowledged me. When they finally sat me, we were at an awkward table in the middle of the restaurant. When our server took our order she seemed annoyed that we weren’t drinking and rolled her eyes. Food service was terrible. My steak and eggs came out but it was obvious our server forgot my friends order entirely, so we had to wait 10 minutes to get someone’s attention and for her food to be made before I could eat. By that time my food was cold and no one offered to replace it or even apologize for the wait. We never saw our server and she didn’t check on us once. Skip this restaurant in favor of the hundreds of others in the area with more attentive service.
We disregarded the negative reviews because many reviews were decent. However, our experience was the service was terrible. Our first drinks arrived when we were half done with the appetizer. Our second drink came when we were finished with dinner. Food was just okay, if that... with so many options in DC area, no need to go back and I would not recommend anything about this restaurant.
Waited over 30 minutes to get our drinks. The appetizer never even came. Server never once acknowledged this or apologized. We were planning on having a meal but ended up just paying for our drinks and leaving disappointed.
Menu was not same as online, pasta was over cooked and completely under seasoned very disappointing and I would not recommend this place
Love this restaurant. One of few restaurants who allow large party reservations. They were so accommodating and made sure that we were content. The manager was beyond nice and engaged with us a lot. The food was great too! Try them! You won't be disappointed.
Too cold. Doors were wide open.
So loud!! Couldn’t hear
Very loud, very crowded for dinner. Make reservations. Possibly loud because there were a number of high school groups doing pre-prom dinners.
A good place for breakfast a few blocks away from the key sights. Good food, service was ok but not particularly friendly.
Love the decor. Food was ok but nothing to it. Service was not that great. Drinks were brought up very fast (I guess this is a great thing) but then everything else was served so quickly. They were trying to take our plates before we were even done and the restaurant was not even full!
My experience was quite good overall but the noise levels were very off putting. Please consider some textiles or other materials to mitigate the reverb. I could hardly hear my lunch companion at times.
The waiter was acting very weird & stand off’ish
First discovered The Smith while traveling in NYC and ate at their 2nd Ave location. Both there and the DC Penn Quarter locations are reliable for attentive but not overbearing service, quality food, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Perfect for brunch!
The menu needs so more variety, tired of the same options at the DC & NYC locations. Great place to bring guest but tired of the same things.
Top notch from start to finish.... The food and and service were impeccable and Malcolm took very good care of us. Looking forward to coming back and exploring the rest of the cocktail menu!
Delicious food; perfect setting for an evening visiting our college child. Attentive and friendly service made the evening extra special.
We often go to The Smith and love it. However, for the first time, we were very disappointed. We ordered the Scallops and were disappointed with the quality and size of the plate for the price. It was more a starter plate than and entree, and it was not good at all. Definitely not worth the $32 price tag. Even the Mac & Cheese, our favorite and must have when going to the restaurant, was not as good as always. Waiting staff never checked on us or asked how the meal was. It was unfortunate because we brought friends visiting from out of town saying it is one of the must go in DC and the experience was very poor. We usually go back at least once a month, now we will unfortunately think it twice.
Seated promptly and our main server was good. Less then thrilled with busing service. As soon as you take your last bite plates are cleared out from under you. I know it’s not a fancy restaurant but it’s still just plain rude and bad form to clear plates from diners before everyone at the table is done. I finished and my daughter was still in the middle of her meal when I my main plate was cleared without asking me if it was ok. I had to shoo the bus girl away 2 more times to try to keep my bread plate while my daughter was still eating. The portion of the bucatini I had was quite small and I finished before my daughter who had the mussels which took longer to eat. Was annoying. Service is pretty quick which is a plus - but rushing you out of your chair on the back end is not. We were only at the table for 70 min total for drinks and dinner so it’s not like we overstayed even on a busy night.
Stopped here before several Caps games. Always seated on time. Staff is always friendly. Daily specials help add variety to the menu. Good tap beer selection. Clean bathrooms. A tiny tad noisy and crowded before a Caps game...but that’s understandable. They have a huge bar area.
The food, service, and atmosphere are great. I have now had several different things on the menu and they have all been fantastic. Great location too!
Okay, but be sure server understands your requests: dressing on the side, salad served with main meal, etc.
Delicious martini and oysters, very friendly but appropriate waitress. The noise level was a bit high for us, but the vibe was energetic and pleasant.
My friend's BLT-E (egg) arrived without the bacon...? My son's grilled cheese was approximately 90% bread and 10% cheese. Disappointing.
My eggs Benedict was awesome
Great food. Fun atmosphere. Excellent service. Highly recommend.
It was a great experience. We were seated quickly and service was awesome. The food was delicious.
Had a reservation for four, but never made it in. Still waited for 20 mins. Need to manage their tables better than that. Walked away in frustration.
