I booked a Wimbledon afternoon tea for 5th July (I booked Dec 2024) as seen on web, then at 11.30 on 5th I get a call to say they no longer do these afternoon teas, yes the staff member who rang was very apologetic and was taken back that I had been able to book it . As it was very short notice and I would not be able to get hold of one of the party I asked did they do afternoon teas - yes so I booked 4. Basic ones to ensure we did have something to eat. Yes the venue was lovely and picturesque, the staff were lovely and helpful. The afternoon tea was basic . Because of the shortness of them ringing they should of offered some discount or complimentary drink. I have emailed the venue .

The venue is lovely, especially when the weather is good and sitting outside is calming. The food and service do not live up to the venue and surroundings and are fair at best.

Some of the food here was good and contained home made components. But some, for example the blue cheese salad, was really bad. I felt very sorry for the waiting staff, who seemed both untrained and un supervised. There was nobody running the restaurant (on a Sunday evening , Monday evening and two breakfasts) so orders took a long time. The waiting staff didn't seem to know it's not ok to bring a bowl of food to a table by holding the rim, so that your thumb is in the food. Or to bring a cup of coffee by holding the cup by the rim, rather than use a saucer or tray. It has to be said that the customers were probably not easy to manage too. A pint of lager with breakfast? Complaining loudly and ostentatiously about the food? The owners need to have a think about whether they want to invest in training and supervising their staff, or to run an overpriced cafe which will soon fail.

Two of us ordered the slow-roasted beef. Our server, Isabella, recommended it: "It is a special that is only available on Sundays." I do not recommend it. It was the toughest piece of meat I've had since school lunches. And Isabella is not cut out to be a server. She gets bogged down in minor details and is frightfully inefficient. Finally, the checkout process was an exercise in extreme patience. They cannot bring the card reader to the table because their wifi does not work within the dining room. No problem. I walked up to the checkout counter, where Isabella proceeded to carry the terminal all around the entry room, attempting to get a strong enough signal for the transaction to process. When the first terminal failed to produce a cleared transaction, she produced a new one and then walked all around the entryway with that terminal. After about 10 minutes and considerable patience, the transaction went through. God help them if this is the process they must go through for everyone dining there who is not also a hotel guest.

Dear Donna, It's very disappointing to read your review and to hear of your experience with us which seems well below our usual high standards. I have passed on your feedback to our restaurant manager for him to review and go over with his team to ensure corrective training is provided. The payment issue you experienced isn't something we usually have any issues with, I will investigate into why there were issues such as yours during your time with us to make sure this is not something repeated. I am very sorry for this happening during your time with us. Kind regards Alice

We booked an afternoon tea back in March and despite receiving an email a few days before our visit, requesting confirmation that we were still coming, on arrival, no one seemed to be aware of our booking. We were shown to a table in the bar area, which had not been laid up as we would have expected it to be. The food had obviously not been prepared as the staff seemed confused as to our requirements. We felt the crockery had seen better days, as many items were chipped. That being said, when the food did arrive, it was lovely. Generally, we were very disappointed with the overall experience, especially as the cost was quite high.
