The Sky Room Ratings and Reviews
The food is to die for! The server was a bit uninterested to engage and was pretty much there just doing his job. Very glamorous decor as soon as you enter the main door. Very pricey but remember, you get what you pay for. Would definitely come back! I love my boyfriend that much more for treating me to this dinner.
This weekend I learned that everyone loves to have their large and complicated holiday gatherings at the Sky Room in Long Beach! Went to celebrate our anniversary and had some issues with the table placement, service speed and attention levels, and noise levels (luckily we were in the quieter back room instead of the front room where all conversation would have been drowned out by the very loud band) - but given the groups they were dealing with that night it wasn't entirely unexpected.
In short: The food was outstanding, the service was the best they could do in those extenuating circumstances, and the view was incredible!
Had a lovely evening on our 25th Anniversary. Our waiter was so great. Felt like we made a friend. The view was amazing. The LB Performing Arts Center was having their Christmas tree lighting. Music, lights, and FIREWORKS! Such a perfect night. Plus the food was so great. Best prime rib we’ve ever had. Best filet mignon too.
The menu was blah and the preparation was lack luster. The waiter was overly solicitous without really being helpful. The chef ran out of the veggies. We didn’t stay for dessert. The thing that might have saved it was dancing, but they didn’t even have dancing Thanksgiving night. It was a big disappointment
Thanks to Darryl bussing, John our waiter and Ray Williams at the piano! We missed our family this Thanksgiving but found new friends at The Skyroom -- and truly, wonderful food. A very special evening, 5 to ard 730pm, just catching the sun setting over the Queen Mary and then, unbelievably, looking north and there was the Los Angeles skyline, as if it were a stone's throw away. Much thanks -- we'll be back!
The Sky Room is fine dining with a unique ambiance and spectacular view of the ocean/area. The food is pricey and good, but not great. The drinks (2 martinis @ $35) and a bottle of Oregon based wine ($150) are over priced for the cocktail size. The waiters we had were great and increased the fun we had. The experience was overall nice.
On the real negative, the restaurant is located about 12 stories up in a 1950's building with two aged, slow elevators only supporting 3 people each. When we left, there were about 20 people waiting to go down and one elevator broke. The stairway was "closed" to the bottom, until the patrons complained to the point that they opened them. (God forbid an emergency). So either wait for an extended time or take the stairs. This dampened the evening - so be prepared.
My husband and I go here often to eat a great meal, enjoy the view, and dance the night away to the bands that never disappoint. Fun atmosphere and choice of closeness to band determines how much noise is there. If seated in adjoining room, it is very quiet. Closer to the band offers more energetic atmosphere.
Underwhelming. By 9 the dining room was clearing, not a sign of good health. Food was good (one dish was undercooked slightly) but nothing spectacular or memorable. Craft cocktails seemed more like a knockoff than created by an actual mixologist. Not balanced nor exciting. But boy what a great view. I just see SO much more potential
We enjoyed an absolutely fantastic evening. Our Server made recommendations from cocktails all the way through dessert. Everything was on point from both the bar and the kitchen. I sampled two different cocktails that were both great. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all absolutely fantastic. The scallops were especially delicious - and probably the best I've ever had. I dine out frequently at higher end restaurants, and the Sky Room is among the best. I read some of the negative reviews before dining, and I did not find any of the negative comments to be accurate to what I experienced. Then again not everyone is accustomed to a five start experience.
The Sky Room is a blast from the past. Art-deco interior with lots of rich history. Our waiter Marty was fantastic - has been there for 19 years. The food was delicious and we especially loved the oysters! Great place for a special dinner - anniversary, birthday or celebration.
This was the worst experience we've ever had with any restaurant. When we announced at the Reception we had reservation at 6:45 PM, they told us to just wait. The person who escorted us to our table seemed impatient, did not smile or said a word except to say, "this way". The service got even worst as the evening progressed. We sat there for at least 10-15 minutes before we were acknowledged by the waiter who by the way attended those that came after us first. He seemed very rushed with us. When I told him this was a special birthday celebration, he just said okey then ignored it after. I noticed others with birthday got a small cupcake with candle but we did not. The food was far from worth the price and tasted horrible. The pasta was very chewy, hard, dry and stuck on the plate. It tasted and looked like it was just microwaved with the paste poured on top of it. Not once did the waiter came back to check how our food was or even offered to refill our water. We had to share my water. We tried to get his attention, he said "will be there" but never returned until he presented us our bill. We ordered another mojito, he said yes but never brought it. We asked if we can stay in our table while listening to the entertainment and or dance, he "no, there is a 2 hour limit for dining but I will check and let you know". He never came back either. There were several table empty so they were not busy at that time. We are non-white but speak fluent English however we noticed that he spent a lot of time talking and socializing and checking on the status of the other customers next and close to us who by the way are all Caucasian. We were extremely disappointed with the service and food.
This is a real gem of restaurants in Long Beach! Very retro vibe and fantastic views. The menu has good variety and usually well-prepared. Would be nice to have a few more seafood choices and fresh fish from local area. Music, entertainment and dance floor are a big hit. Enjoyed dancing and listening to Tino and his band.
The food was delicious, as was the service, and especially the view overlooking Long Beach. Excellent spot for my wife and my first anniversary. Worth the expense on a special occasion (dinner, dessert, & drinks for 2: $300). All wine by the glass comes from the Sky Room owner’s vineyard. Upstairs has a fantastic bar, Cielo, for after dinner.
I chose this restaurant for its great view of downtown Long Beach, and because a friend recommended The Sky Room.
This is definitely a restaurant where you’d want to be dressed well for dinner. The staff are super friendly and very attentive.
The Sky Room is fantastic, definitely would recommend for a date or for any special occasion!
