What a bittersweet farewell to one of our favorite Long Beach spots. The Sky Room is one of a kind. We have made many memories there. Thank you everyone!
55th Bday celebration. Food, service and atmosphere...perfection❣️
We are sorry to see The Sky Room closing. Hope it will reopen with same fabulous ambiance, food and staff.
The view from the restaurant was awesome!
The mash potatoes with lobster and scallops were delicious. The stake okay.
The servers were very attentive.
Always love dining at the Sky Room. Sorry it will be closing for 2 years for renovations but look forward to returning to an all new experience.
the overall experience was great. Unfortunately this place is closing down as of the 29th of April 2018.
They are closing for good this month and you could tell! Menus was significantly reduced and staff was good but conversation with them showed disappointment. Food was good, but pricing is way over the top for the experience. The noise within the restaurant was over the top loud and the lack of space between tables made it uncomfortable. They must had been catering a wedding or large group as meal carts with large amounts were doing through the isles of the tables from the kitchen and really took away from the night. The owner was very attentive by visiting all tables and discussed their move and the sale of property to another firm. But, with paying around $100 per person and without drinks, a $25 corkage fee included, you would have expected a better night from an ambiance expectation. I can deal with large price for high end quality meals, but a meat and cheese plate at $45 was totally out of line. We had visited and enjoyed 5 or more other visits over the past 5 years and always recommended the Sky Room as a great experience for any special occasion. Sorry to see them close, but based on last experience it will not be missed!
A classic venue in Long Beach on the top floor of an historic hotel. Fantastic city, harbor and ocean views. Excellent food and service. Get there soon however. We've heard the Breakers had been sold and with all the development in the city, things are likely to change.
Fabulous views overlooking Long Beach and the water. Love the Art Deco motif through out. The food is always fabulous ( scallops, seafood, pasta & meat dishes). We have eaten there every year we are in town for the Long Beach Grand Prix and have never been disappointed. We were VERY disappointed to hear the restaurant will be closing at the end of the month due to new ownership of the building it is situated on.
So sad the sky room is closing forever on April 29 :(
It has a lot of historic value, but unfortunately it's closing April 29, 2018. Molina health care purchased the building and will be remodeling it for 2 years. It's too bad that the City of Long Beach did not consider it a historic building. Oh well
We went here for a late birthday celebration, hoping to have a nice, fancy meal. I can tell Sky Room was once what it claims to be now, but everything from the elevators to the decor to the menus were terribly outdated. The food was okay at best, the atmosphere was run-down and not terribly classy (creaky elevators, outdated lamps, red neon lighting after the sun set), and even the view isn’t as amazing as advertised. I was disappointed that a meal for two that ran over $150 was so underwhelming. The service was okay, though we had two servers who kept returning and asking the same question the previous server had already asked. It will be closing at the end of the month for some much-needed renovations, so I’m curious to see what improvements they make upon reopening.
My hubby and I renewed our vows in Long Beach so this was a special dinner for us. We had never been and it surpassed all expectations! Everything was perfect from the host to the bar to the wait staff. The courses were yummy and the view was spectacular! We were sad to hear it will be closing at the end of the month. So glad we shared our special day with them!
It was my husbands birthday and we truly had a wonderful time
This weekend was my first experience at the Sky room. I surprised my mother for her 50th birthday and invited her female friends. She was so surprised. The food was great, Charlie was great making sure I was able to get the cake I ordered and making sure we were having a good time. The staff were great, the food and the music was awesome.
I really enjoyed it and it was so nice that my Mother and none of her friends had ever been there and I picked it from the many restaurants in Long Beach. I had a great time and it was worth flying from Northern California to surprise my Mother.
Thank you to all the staff
Made a reservation Friday afternoon for 8:30 pm that night with no problem at all. Requested window seating because it was date night for the boyfriend and I. They accommodated us in a cozy little window table with a pretty good view of Downtown Long Beach without hesitation. It was a bit quieter in our section because it was in a different room from where the live music was playing, but that's exactly what I wanted so the bf and I could have a bit more intimate conversation. We were still able to enjoy the music from where we were sitting. Our waitress Shanell (sp?) was great! She was funny, friendly, and wasn't afraid to talk to us like a normal person lol. The food was so amazing! I had the Mediterranean White Sea Bass and the bf had the Wild Diver Scallops. For dessert we had the Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée, which you can never go wrong with! For cocktails - I had the April in Paris (like an adult strawberry lemonade) and Shoreline Gimlet (cucumber heaven with a little spicy kick to it) and the bf had the Old Fashioned. 10/10 would recommend all.
We went there to celebrate a birthday. When I made the reservation, I clearly mentioned it was to celebrate a birthday.
Cheese platter was nicely organized with different finger treats, it was tasty but the cashews were really OLD!
Corn, ginger soup was nicely served, it tasted the corn, but VERY PLAIN FLAVOR. I believe the 4oz. soup was warmed in the MICROWAVE before serving, because it was served fuming on the dishes, and literally 20 seconds later it was COLD. I had to eat it quickly, and couldn't enjoy the moment.
SALAD AND RAVIOLI (served at room temperature). I was the only one who ate those, had STOMACH ISSUES once at home and my SKIN HAD A REACTION.
Sea bass was tasty, but It came little greasy.
French fries w/ Parmesan cheese made the difference, but in the greasy side. Like they don't wait long enough to drain the oil after cooking it.
We were seated in a corner with a partial view... imagine going to this restaurant with a partial view to celebrate a birthday THAT BY THE WAY, we didn't even receive little treat that most restaurants offer to the birthday person. Little details that makes a difference !!
Service was fine. Only at one moment on the hall, two employees (no waiters), decided to have a business chat and blocked the way for a while.
It was PLEASANT LIVE MUSIC, and interesting decorations in the restroom.
I still think about all the awards that this restaurant has hanging on the floor and the service and Food we received, and when I compare with my experience there, the only thing I can conclude is that probably they knew they were being judged, and that is why the excel at that moment.
The restaurant is not bad, for me was lacking the WOW factor that I was expecting, the lack of little details, cold foods, old cashews, greasy bread, trying to trick Italian for French on the cheese names, partial view, no offering little sweet for the birthday. AND LETS NOT TO FORGET THE FOOD REACTION THAT I HAD, ...on my birthday.
The staff was excellent, very attentive to detail. The food was superb- taste, presentation, everything was just simply amazing. The doorman Denny was very kind & very warm when welcoming us. This restaurant is indeed very charming. I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it.
Was first time and it was great! Good for romantic dinners. Great view. Food was good cant say the best. When you first walk in towards elevators seemed like you went back in time. Very historical.
Everything about the Sky Room is amazing. They are closing the end of April as the building has been sold, however we were reassured that it will reopen. But do try to go before then in order to enjoy the Art Deco decor.
went for easter brunch. the food was good but very overpriced. the service was good and the staff were friendly. but won’t be back as your really only paying for the view.
Excellent waiter, good food, good view, and IMPECCABLE ART DECO decor! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will return again for music and dancing. Thank you!
Very happy with the experience.
A waitress was very grumpy and not pleasant and when we told her that it was my friends birthday we had to remind her later for a crappy little candle ???? Nonsense! She was not a good experience but all the other people that helped us for a wonderfully kind
I have been to the Sky Room several times... This time, I asked for a cozy location because it was a special occasion and they gave me an awesome corner with a terrific view. The atmosphere was quiet, nice and the waiters were fun and attentive. Super cool spot to show off all the great things about Long Beach . The rack of lamb was dee-licious!
Friendly and welcoming people from the elevator to the dining room. Wait staff was attentive and took time to chat for a few minutes with us and other tables. View of the harbor was awesome at sunset. Great variety of appetizers which were delicious. Entree was excellent (we had the scallops and duck breast entrees). After dinner, we migrated over to the bar area and listened to the jazz quintet. A really nice place. We will be back.
Amazing. Great view, food, service, ambiance. I couldn’t be more satisfied.
Had a wonderful time, waiters were extremely helpful, great view, classic restaurant from days of Hollywood past. You can still see John Wayne and Elizabeth Taylor through this classic place. Great music, just the ultimate vibe for me
I had a nice evening at the Sky Room. It was quiet and my group and I had a great view of the Long Beach ports
We were there on a Sunday night at 5:30pm so there was little to no noise, but adjacent to the dining area there is a dance floor and dancing Friday and Saturday nights and I could see that it would be noisy seated next to the dance floor.
Get a table next to a window as the view is really impressive and select the dining room away from the dancing/bar area.
Rack of lamb was really really good with great veggies. Salmon was also very good and order a charcuterrie board (a mini board for 2-3). Really tasty meats and cheeses.
Excellent food and service and location. A bit pricey.
This place is expensive but worth it for special occasions. Located on the top floor of the old Breakers Hotel (a historic landmark), the panoramic city/harbor view is unmatched by any other Long Beach restaurant.
Valet parking is almost necessary as there is no street parking and the entrance from Locust Street is on a steep slope. A red carpet leads down a long corridor to the elevator with a welcoming operator. The restaurant ambiance is that of a 1920s art deco night club and once the haunt movie stars such as Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Rita Hayworth, Cary Grant and John Wayne. Warm low level lighting and flickering candles on the white tablecloths provide a very romantic atmosphere.
Fridays and Saturdays feature a swing/jazz dance band on the small dance floor. One extremely talented patron couple provided us with a great show of swing dancing that alone was worth the price of the evening.
We had the fillet steak and the seared scallops. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Service was very attentive, almost over the top.
A few minor flaws: Our waiter neglected to deduct from the bill the $100 gift certificate we presented when ordering. It took a long time and two requests to get sugar for tea. The dinner forks have an unusual upturn on the handles which when rested on the edge of the plate makes them to slide into plate and become soiled with sauce.
The Sky Room is our favorite for a really nice night out. Wait staff is tops as is the food, wine, view and ambiance.
Exceptional meal overlooking coastal Long Beach during reunion with a dear friend, both of us raised in Long Beach. Could not have been a more delightful evening. Except: the delicious Lobster Macaroni & Cheese deserves it’s own place on the Seconds menu — superb!
Fantastic food, particularly the Diver Scallops and the Ravioli!
The service was great. Experience and food were perfect. Exactly what we were looking for!
Amazing! We had an amazing experience. The food was good and the hospitality was great. Will definitely go back again
All I can say is the best I’ve ever had. I mean everything was perfect! Food was unbelievable, too good to be true. Waitress was awesome and helpful!!!
Unusually noisy this visit. Service was a bit "flat." Perhaps the impending property sale has impacted staffing.
Family in town
