The Sky Room Ratings and Reviews
The Sky Room is fine dining with a unique ambiance and spectacular view of the ocean/area. The food is pricey and good, but not great. The drinks (2 martinis @ $35) and a bottle of Oregon based wine ($150) are over priced for the cocktail size. The waiters we had were great and increased the fun we had. The experience was overall nice.
On the real negative, the restaurant is located about 12 stories up in a 1950's building with two aged, slow elevators only supporting 3 people each. When we left, there were about 20 people waiting to go down and one elevator broke. The stairway was "closed" to the bottom, until the patrons complained to the point that they opened them. (God forbid an emergency). So either wait for an extended time or take the stairs. This dampened the evening - so be prepared.
My husband and I go here often to eat a great meal, enjoy the view, and dance the night away to the bands that never disappoint. Fun atmosphere and choice of closeness to band determines how much noise is there. If seated in adjoining room, it is very quiet. Closer to the band offers more energetic atmosphere.
Underwhelming. By 9 the dining room was clearing, not a sign of good health. Food was good (one dish was undercooked slightly) but nothing spectacular or memorable. Craft cocktails seemed more like a knockoff than created by an actual mixologist. Not balanced nor exciting. But boy what a great view. I just see SO much more potential
We enjoyed an absolutely fantastic evening. Our Server made recommendations from cocktails all the way through dessert. Everything was on point from both the bar and the kitchen. I sampled two different cocktails that were both great. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all absolutely fantastic. The scallops were especially delicious - and probably the best I've ever had. I dine out frequently at higher end restaurants, and the Sky Room is among the best. I read some of the negative reviews before dining, and I did not find any of the negative comments to be accurate to what I experienced. Then again not everyone is accustomed to a five start experience.
The Sky Room is a blast from the past. Art-deco interior with lots of rich history. Our waiter Marty was fantastic - has been there for 19 years. The food was delicious and we especially loved the oysters! Great place for a special dinner - anniversary, birthday or celebration.
This was the worst experience we've ever had with any restaurant. When we announced at the Reception we had reservation at 6:45 PM, they told us to just wait. The person who escorted us to our table seemed impatient, did not smile or said a word except to say, "this way". The service got even worst as the evening progressed. We sat there for at least 10-15 minutes before we were acknowledged by the waiter who by the way attended those that came after us first. He seemed very rushed with us. When I told him this was a special birthday celebration, he just said okey then ignored it after. I noticed others with birthday got a small cupcake with candle but we did not. The food was far from worth the price and tasted horrible. The pasta was very chewy, hard, dry and stuck on the plate. It tasted and looked like it was just microwaved with the paste poured on top of it. Not once did the waiter came back to check how our food was or even offered to refill our water. We had to share my water. We tried to get his attention, he said "will be there" but never returned until he presented us our bill. We ordered another mojito, he said yes but never brought it. We asked if we can stay in our table while listening to the entertainment and or dance, he "no, there is a 2 hour limit for dining but I will check and let you know". He never came back either. There were several table empty so they were not busy at that time. We are non-white but speak fluent English however we noticed that he spent a lot of time talking and socializing and checking on the status of the other customers next and close to us who by the way are all Caucasian. We were extremely disappointed with the service and food.
This is a real gem of restaurants in Long Beach! Very retro vibe and fantastic views. The menu has good variety and usually well-prepared. Would be nice to have a few more seafood choices and fresh fish from local area. Music, entertainment and dance floor are a big hit. Enjoyed dancing and listening to Tino and his band.
The food was delicious, as was the service, and especially the view overlooking Long Beach. Excellent spot for my wife and my first anniversary. Worth the expense on a special occasion (dinner, dessert, & drinks for 2: $300). All wine by the glass comes from the Sky Room owner’s vineyard. Upstairs has a fantastic bar, Cielo, for after dinner.
I chose this restaurant for its great view of downtown Long Beach, and because a friend recommended The Sky Room.
This is definitely a restaurant where you’d want to be dressed well for dinner. The staff are super friendly and very attentive.
The Sky Room is fantastic, definitely would recommend for a date or for any special occasion!
Easily one of the best dining experiences I had from San Diego to LA, due in large part to our fantastic waiter Eddie.
Eddie was phenomenal, and delivered an outstanding experience from showing us around the restaurant, making excellent food+drink recommendations, and most importantly gave us lots of attention throughout the evening.
We had the Lobster Mac and Cheese + the Calamari to start, and Lamb as our entree. All 3 were very good, and with the city view and superb dining staff the experience was easily better than 5 star.
The view was fabulous, the service was excellent, the food was great. Our waiter was patient with us and explained the menu and when my with asked for a particular beverage, they did not carry that brand. However, the waiter went to the bar and brought back the most refreshing drink I’ve had in a while. The setting was very old school, I was informed the building used to be a Hilton Hotel, but I guess over the years, the area did not maintain its status. All I can say is, whichever company purchases the building, they have an instant restaurant attraction to entice visitors. Also, there is a bar above the restaurant, it’s worth visiting as well. I will definitely be going back to the Sky Room, as well as, telling others how wonderful my dining experience was for our anniversary.
The restaurant needs a major renovation. It feels like it was a hot spot in the 80s but the decor is garish. The servers and staff need to tighten the sails because their shirts are messily hanging out of their waist. Food was good, view is good. Friendly staff. Just needs a shot of “new” because it’s 2017 not 1987!!
It's all about the views, and of course the food. And the history of the building. Google it, and make a reservation; you'll thank yourself for it!
My boyfriend had the Scallops and a cocktail, I had the Red Snapper and Sauvignon Blanc. We had Creme Brûlée for dessert. Everything was extremely delicious!
We would have tried the cured meats but we weren't super-hungry coming in, which we wished we had been after seeing the Menu. We are foodies, but even a foodie has an eating limit...apparently:(
Oh, the bathrooms are a treat too, LOL. Unlike anything I've seen before. So bright, so much character!
Loved the door-man too. Great guy:)
I was celebrating my birthday with a friend.
The staff was incredibly friendly; everyone made it a priority to make a lasting experience. Nicolas and another gentleman at the lobby, were particularly accommodating in finding a good table. Nice music, wonderful food, from the presentation, to the last bite.
I will definitely be visiting the Sky Room in the near future!
While the location was lovely with a beautiful view of the city or the ocean depending on which side you sit, the tables were packed in with very little room between. The acoustics are not sufficient to handle the noise level of the room and made for a distracting meal. The servers did their best but there were not enough of them. As a result, our used dishes stayed at our table for a good 20 minutes. It took a long time to get drinks served. Basically, if they had less tables, invested in some additional acoustic/sound reducers and more servers it would make for a far, far better experience. But don't get me wrong, the view and the food were great.
Outstanding Service and Anniversary Surprise for my husband! There service started from the time we were escorted onto the elevator to seating by our fabulous Waiter (I really do not want to call him that because he was beyond that title), to our exquisite food - top quality. I know why they are listed among the best because they are in my eyes and can not be
compared to anyone else. We will be back on our next visit to the west coast. Thank you, for making this the best part of our trip - We love "The Sky Room."
